I am not really sure what to do. I bought her some chips and candy and wrote her a note, but I am not really sure what else to do. Any suggestions? Or have I done enough?

You can greet her at the door wearing nothing but Saran Wrap.

Nah, come to think of it, chips, candy and a note are probably appropriate.

Make her a cake? Or take her out for ice cream?

Being in a dorm room makes the cake hard, but maybe Ice cream. I am not sure she will have time though. She is in a sorority and this is homecoming weekend so she will be pretty busy.

I am not entirely comfortable inviting her to do something with me. We did not know each other before we moved in and we have never done anything together before. We get along, we just don't really run in the same social circles.

I'd think anything would be good/nice, particularly if you don't run in the same social circles. I know I would have been glad if any of my roommates last year would have even wished me a happy birthday.

My roommate forgot about my birthday. But it was ok, because it was three days after we moved in. Some of my friends celebrated, but she didn't do anything. Even once she remembered, she was just like "oh, that's nice." I didn't even get a "happy birthday!" out of her.

Allegra, I think it's nice you thought of her. If you really wanted to do a little more, you might get her an inexpensive bracelet or pair of earrings, nothing fancy, but I wouldn't go any further than that. That gives her something permanent to go with the consumable things you already got her.

I think chips and candy are nice.
