Last night one of my friends here was celebrating his 21st birthday. He'd just turned 21 and was walking down to the bar for his first (legal) drink when he got hit by a car and killed. I just heard about this about an hour ago and I'm still digesting it.

Phil was an awesome guy. He was a junior here at Skidmore College. He was short with a beard and a short curly pony tail down to his shoulders. He was often refered to as a hobbit, which he cheerfully accepted. He was funny, cheerful and damned smart. He was a computer geek who sorta looked after me and a fellow frosh comp geek friend. He was also on the Wombat's Ultimate Frisbee team with us. He was working on a trebuche(sp?) and had just constructed the 200 lb counter weight for it a week ago. I guess its never gonna be finished now. He was well known and well loved here on campus.

It'll really sink in I suppose when he's missing in class tomorrow. His cheerful jokes will be much missed.

The world moves on, eventually those of us on the Skidmore campus will too. But in the mean time we're gonna be thinking about and remembering our awesome friend Phil.

...and doing lay outs in his honor.

Oh my goodness... what a tragedy. [Frown]

That's such a terrible story. I'm so sorry. Let me know if there's anything I can do, ok? *hugs*

Thats horrible. I often forget that being 18 does not make me invincible. When things like this happen it brings be back to reality. I am so sorry that this happened. If you need anything that someone thousands of miles away can provide, drop me a line.

That really stinks, man. A similar thing happened to a guy I went to college with. Graduation night, on his way home from the bars, he fell off his skateboard going about 30 mph and ended up in a coma. He never regained consciousness, and died about a week later. He wasn't even drinking. I know exactly what you're going through. It just seems so senseless when something like that happens.

Crap... that's ironic if its true. That's him. I still can't quite believe it. Part of me's convinced that he's gonna be sitting there in class tomorrow saying, in his sarcastic tone "Whats wrong with you guys, why are you all so depressed?"

Wait, the sheriff hit him? I think that makes it worse. I'm sorry for you, Alcon, and anyone else affected by this loss.

I'm digging through my mind trying to remember the perfect words that someone must have said to me to help me remember and mourn the friends I've lost over the years. Unfortunately for everyone, I don't think there are any. All I have to offer is my sympathy, Alcon. For what it's worth, I'm sorry. Remember him well.

{{{Alcon}}}

Unfortunately, I know how you feel. It will be two weeks tomorrow that a friend of mine, who I knew from my gem club, died suddenly. He was on a business trip in CA. I guess he was taking some time off and was walking down a cliff path to one of the beaches and fell. He hit his head and never woke up. They said he was by himself when it happened, but there were people on the beach below. When I first heard about it, the two thoughts that flashed through my head were: I hope he wasn't alone, which I found out later was what happened and the other one was a memory of him and his wife and how they interacted with each other. They seemed so much in love. It wasn't just the words they said, but how they treated each other.

This week will be our first meeting without our friend there. Part of me doesn't want to go, but I know that being with other people who missed him and continuing to enjoy life is a good thing.

Just remember your friend as he was and that he brought laughter into your life. That is a pretty special gift.

*sigh* Yep class was sad with out him today. Most people seem to have already moved on. I think for the most part I have too. Never the less today was still fairly subdued. There's a vigil for him here at 7 pm that I'm gonna attend. After that its on with normal campus life I suppose. We'll definately miss him and remember him, but all we can do is move on.

Thanks everyone for your support.
