According to my 3 year old. I let her have a sip of some not so hot chocolate and she said, "hot chocolate made me all better." It must work very well because she wasn't even sick to begin with. [Smile]

Ice cream does that for me.... [Smile]

KQ makes the BEST hot chocolate in the GALAXY from scratch, it makes me all better. Although she thinks it is crazy that I like to be outside in the cold while drinking it. Am I the only one that does this?

This morning I just had hot chocolate for the first time in probably about a year. Weird. I'd probably like drinking it when it's cold outside. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen that often in Florida.

KPC - Nope.

hmm, i havent had hot chocolate in a long time now. it is usually a strictly cold weather thing, and so that might not be until early november here in GA.

Posted by JannieJ (Member # 8683) on :

Hot chocolate is magic! And you can put whipped cream on it (which is a secondary magic substance).

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I really do make wonderful hot cocoa. I'm not saying that to brag, it's just a plain and simple fact. And I don't allow marshmallows anywhere NEAR it; it MUST be topped with whipped cream.

Posted by Miriya (Member # 7822) on :

Ah, hot chocolate. It's perfect weather here for it.

Posted by Joldo (Member # 6991) on :

Mmmm . . . Hot chocolate . . . and cider . . . and coffee . . .

I haven't had the chance for it as much anymore since I moved south. No cold winter nights getting home and brewing up homemade hot chocolate, and it's not worth it if it's instant.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

So, KPC, do you drink your hot chocolate cold as well?

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Just milk and Nesquick, mixed and microwaved for me, thank you.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

*reads digging_holes' post and throws up*

Elizabeth, he likes it warm but not too hot, with extra whipped cream on top.

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Not in my hot chocolate I hope, KQ. I was planning on drinking that.

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Mind you, now that I think of it, I don't think I've made my own hot chocolate in ages. Usually I just get one at Tim Horton's these days, whenever everyone else is getting a coffee.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

No, digging_holes, I went to the bathroom sink. Didn't make it quite to the toilet.

But enjoy.

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

What's wrong with Nesquick? Or Tim Horton's, for that matter?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Never been to Tim Horton's, so I wouldn't know.

As for Nesquick, um, eeeeew. Especially in hot milk. *gags again*

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Well, no. You mix it before you heat it. At least, I think. It's been a while. And I don't think it's eeew.

Then again, I'm one of those infuriating people who think that McDonald's hamburgers is comfort food...

Posted by Joldo (Member # 6991) on :

Ugh. That's gross. Does no one else use real chocolate?

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

And what do you call real chocolate?

Posted by Joldo (Member # 6991) on :

Erm . . . actually solid chocolate, powdered and carefully prepared with various spices?

Posted by digging_holes (Member # 6237) on :

Wow. I'm afraid I'm not quite that much of a fanatic.

I have swiss miss, about 3 boxes sent by loving relatives in college care packages. I like the kind with the marshmallows in the packet, but they usually melt before it cools enough to start drinking it, but they leave a nice froth on top. I also like the kind you get at starbucks, not sure how they do it, but it tastes more like real cocoa powder. Did anyone else ever used to just eat the cocoa powder? My brothers and I always used to.

Posted by Allegra (Member # 6773) on :

I use ghirardelli cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and milk. I warm it all up on the stove slowly. Then I put it unto cups with whipped cream and cinnamon. I have found the perfect cocoa to sugar ratio.

I've never had made from scratch hot chocolate. I really wish I could try it. No one I know knows how to make it from scratch, though.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Jaime, if you swear on all your favorite relatives' graves that you will only make ONE hard copy for yourself (and/or print the e-mail) and promise to only pass the recipe on by word of mouth or by hand-copying the recipe, and make all you give it to do the same, I will send you my instructions for the best hot cocoa ever.

:bawls uncontrollably into her Cain's crappy packet hot chocolate:

kq has never even once offered the mother of her daughter's friend Boo her super-duper, top secret recipe!

:bawls some more:

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Boon, I made this offer because Jaime has never had real hot chocolate. I will of course extend the offer to any fairly established Hatracker who cares to e-mail me for it and is willing to make the same promise (I already extended the offer to Nauvoo when asked to as a test of friendship.) And you are welcome to it.

ketchupqueen AT sbcglobal.net, please, it's saved in a folder there, I don't have it at the listed e-mail.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

If I swear to the same, can you email it to me?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

If you swear the same and e-mail me for it.

I am too lazy for words right now. If you want it, you gotta ask. [Razz]

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

I was teasing.

I really would like to have a good recipe for hot chocolate, but didn't mean to pressure you.

(am now sad, thinking I've goofed terribly in my attempt at humor)

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

(but of course, my remorse did not prevent me from emailing a request for the recipe)

[Razz]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Recipe sent.

I really did have it already all typed up from when I entertained requests from Nauvoo for it.

Posted by Boon (Member # 4646) on :

[Kiss]

I do love you, you know. And not just for your hot chocolate, either.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I know.

I'm dead sexy, too. [Laugh]

Posted by Rappin' Ronnie Reagan (Member # 5626) on :

why all the rules about copying it and sharing it with other people?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

'Cause it's a secret and I don't want it posted on the Internet.

It was a hard decision before I even decided to share it.

Posted by JaimeBenlevy (Member # 6222) on :

Ummm, ok. I won't share the email with anyone besides my mom since she'll probably be the one who will help me make it. Thank you.

Posted by JaimeBenlevy (Member # 6222) on :

And I'll probably lose it after making it a couple times anyways so you don't have too worry much.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Alright, it's in your inbox. [Smile]

What spices?

Posted by larisse (Member # 2221) on :

When I was little, my mom used to make homemade hot chocolate with warmed milk and Mexican chocolate. She would chop it up and slowly melt it into the milk and then add sugar. Now they have instant packs. Yay!!!! Well, not yay, cause it isn't the same, but it is darn close. Just add whipped cream.

Dunkin Donuts' hot chocolate is pretty darned good itself.

And hot chocolate with a shot of peppermint schnapps in it is a lovely way to top off a winter evening.

We've found that Honeyville Hot Cocoa is a really good brand. It's sort of hard to find though. I think we still have some and it's probably 2 years old.

MMM hot cocoa would be wonderful.. (sigh) too bad I'm not home to make it. [Frown]

Edit: moved the sigh

*drools at the thought of the best hot chocolate in the world*

KQ- I'm not sure if I'm established enough on Hatrack (I've been in and out as of late) for you to feel comfortable sending me your recipe, but I would absolutely love to try it. I'm a diehard chocoholic, and Hot Chocolate Season is just beginning here in Provo. [Smile] I usually use some form of mix, and I've only tried making it from scratch once with unfortunate results. I would gladly agree to your stipulations. If it truly is the best hot chocolate in the world, you deserve the credit. [Smile] Anyway, if you're ok with sending me the recipe, I'll email you.

Posted by whiskysunrise (Member # 6819) on :

My favorite mix is Stephen's. I like the French Vanilla best.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Sure, hansenj, I've seen you around enough to trust you. [Smile]

Posted by hansenj (Member # 4034) on :

Thanks! [Big Grin] Email sent.
