Any hatrackers planning to attend? Me and Niki (Valentine014) would love to go, and we were interested to see who else was thinking of being there.

One reason I want to go is so I can hang out with the Brotherhood Without Banners, the George R R Martin fan-club. I think Frisco has hung out with these guys a few times, and they seem like a fun group. Plus, I would love the chance to meet the man who writes the books I am obsessed with.

Then there's the fact that its in L.A., and wouldn't be a bad vacation spot. And then there's the SoCal clump, who I would love the chance to hang out with again.

So anyone else making plans (tentative or otherwise)?

Frisco is the reason this new book took so damn long to complete.

He hangs out with them fairly often, actually. [Big Grin]

Con website

$175 ( [Eek!] !) per person is kinda rich for my blood. Especially since as of now, I recognize not one name on the featured guests list.

And it doesn't look like they do one-day passes at all? Anaheim is close enough I wouldn't want to spend money on a hotel, but far enough I wouldn't want to drive back and forth multiple days.

But you know I'd love to see you two if you come out. [Smile]

yes.

You're thinking of coming out this August, Kama? Or are you just talking about plans in general? [Wink]

coming to worldcon, job permitting.

oh and rivka, I'm sure they will have one day passes.

Cool. Wanna hazard a guess how much those might run?

In Glasgow, they were 25 GBP on a normal day and 40 GBP on a Saturday and Sunday. I'm bad at maths, so can't convert that to USD [Wink]

I need to start the fricking job first and then work for a few months before I even start tlking vacation; and if I start in December, August will be my end-of-probation-period month, and I have no idea how long I will be able to get away for... In other words, it's too darn early to make definite plans yet. But I soooo want to do this [Big Grin]

I have absolutely no idea what GBPs even are, let alone conversions. [Wink] But Google does! And even gave found me a currency converter. 40 GBP is about $70, and and 25 GBP about $45. Still a bit steep, but more of a possibility.

Hope it works out for you to come . . .

To get yourself ready to hang with the BwB, Phil, practice drinking vodka by the litre, constructing entire sentences out of obscenities, and making out with random people while doing a pirate impression.

Oh. I thought they would be nerds or something. [Wink]

It would be great to meet you Kama [Smile] .

Friso:

Can I substitute 100 proof peppermint schnapps for the vodka (I can drink that stuff like water, and it has 10% more alcohal by volume than vodka)?

I can totally handle the second one.

For the third one, I'll probably have to limit myself to making out with people that Niki approves of, or to girls who are willing to make out with her as well... Is Kama a random person? [Wink]

Are you gonna be there Frisco?

Posted by Frisco (Member # 3765) on :

Depends...are you propositioning me?

I'm with rivka-- I'm not up to paying that much for a con, but anyone who wants to get together while they're here for it I would totally love to see!

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Frisco's friend Ben Dover will be there, I guess... [Wink]

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Nope.

Does that make it more likely, or less likely, that you will attend?

May I please request that if there is a choice between having a get-together either before or after the con, we go with before? The week after is likely to be an extremely bad week for me.

Err...more. Clearly. Duh.

*runs off crying*

I forgot to do the last bit.

I do make out with couples, though, so Xav and Niki qualify [Smile]

I can't. It's during the school year. [Frown]

what kind of a country begins school year in August?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

It's not the whole country, Kama. I don't start until the first week of September, usually.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

You came during my school year last time, too.

And you didn't come anywhere near Florida.

But who's keeping track?

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

I'm afriad of Florida. they have hurri-canes.
