Hello, guys. I know I've been a lapsed hatracker, but here I am, hehehe.

Some of you may already know that yesterday Brazil held (first time in the world, I think) a national referendum about the subject of banning or not the selling and bearing of guns and ammunition for civilians.

As you can see here , we rejected the ban. Of course, it's still very, very hard for a common citizen to buy firearms (legally) in Brazil.

I've been reading that United Nations already came crashing down on our decision, calling it "bakward thinking". What do you think about Brazil's decision? Should other countries hold such votes?

Let me say that I am all for gun control. I believe that the right to bear arms comes with a price that should involve a fair test, safety classes, and a deep background check--barring guns to those with certain crimminal pasts and mental conditions.

However, there is one argument against banning guns that I can't defeat. It is the reason that such a ban is not allowed by the US Constitution. That is the basic right of the people to disband their government if it fails them.

I don't mean one upset tax payer can take over the govt. I mean that if only the Government had guns, then there is less motivation for the governors to listen to the unarmed governed. Revolution is a constitutionally guaranteed right in the US. Note, as the Confederate States learned, a successful revolution is not.

In a country full of problems as Brazil has, including an un-fair amount of governmental corruption, having citizens able to get arms is not a bad thing.
