So I gave lindsay a homework assignment that she has totally dropped the ball on. So here it goes.

January is coming up in a few months. Nerdfest should happen in that month. I think it would be a lot of fun. it has been the past two years i've attended anyhow. Besides, the hotel is five minutes from my apartment now. Mighty convenient that be. Also, Dave has moved to the ATL and i understand there are a few others around here now as well.

So i guess this is the announcement. Let's make this happen again. Voice your thoughts on this matter.

that is all...

I can't come in January. I will be broke. I'm sorry.

Posted by Ben (Member # 6117) on :

by the way, for those that do not know, Wenchcon was/is a gathering that has happened in the Atlanta area the past 3 years. well, no date has been set, january was just tossed around loosely over the weekend. suggest when a good time would be? i personally would prefer it in the beginning of the year.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Yeah, and this will be more clumpish, maybe, than in the past. For example, I doubt Jenny Gardener will be able to attend what with having a three month old baby and all.

She'd like to have the Wenches at her may revel, but we'll have to talk to her about that more later.

For US, that means the slate is clean -- no mandatory dressing up as elves or whatnot, just whatever you guys want to do in the Atlanta area. Low key, fun, and on neutral ground. [Smile]

But Ophelia and the beninator are handling the specifics this year, mostly. I'm tired.

Posted by Ben (Member # 6117) on :

i don't even get a big B for Beninator? i get a little b? lindsay got a big O.

nuts to that.

You don't capitalize "I" -- no big B for you!

At least comment on whether or not you and Nathan want to come to nerdfest, Jamie.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I know I want to and I'm fairly certain nathan would as well. So we'll see what we can work out. [Smile]

As for Ben's 'big O' comment...I will not comment.

I think we should make nerdfest tshirts.

I'm soooo in... assuming it's not on a date I have committed elsewhere...

Posted by Ophelia (Member # 653) on :

Well, we were thinking MLK weekend again, which would make it something like Friday the 13th (oooh, spooky!) to Monday the 16th for those who have or can get MLK day off, but we are definitely not set on that date and will take suggestions. [Smile]

Posted by krynn (Member # 524) on :

umm, i guess i can come.. i never really plan anything more than a week or two in advance tho. so someone will have to remind me right before its supposed to take place.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

We probably won't be able to afford it at that time. Although I would love to go. And I won't be too pregnant to fly at that time yet...

Hmmm.

Posted by pH (Member # 1350) on :

I wanna go!

I'll have to see when school starts, though, and things like that.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I wonder if they discount flights on Friday the 13th.

'Cause I have no problem flying that day. Especially if it's cheaper!

Posted by Avadaru (Member # 3026) on :

I would really like to attend this one, but it depends on how my financial situation is at the time. [Razz]

Posted by KetchupPrinceConsort (Member # 8047) on :

You may have KQ's gracious presence if it is AFTER we get our tax refund.

And from what I am reading, more people might be able to go if it is later due to current finances.

So everyone file their returns early and set it up for Late February or something...just a suggestion.

Posted by pH (Member # 1350) on :

If I go to New Orleans, it should be during Mardi Gras break. Clearly. [Big Grin]

Of course, late Feb. may be too close to my due date to fly safely. [Wall Bash]

Okay, we will e-file and get it mid Feb.

I would like to come, but I am not sure I will be able to get up there. Atlanta is only about a 4 hour drive from Valdosta, but I am carless.

I really don't have any excuses this time, do I? *grin*

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I could actually make it for New Years Eve or Day. I'll be home in NC til the 2nd of January, it's only 3 hours from Atlanta, and I have several relatives in that area. (And since I didn't read the whole thread again, looks like that won't work for many other people [Razz] )

That being said, if there's a NerdFest here in the ATL area, I'll be there.

I only attend the Even Numbered WenchCons.

which hotel is it at? since i live in atlanta i would rather just commute instead of paying to stay at a hotel and eat out.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

The last two years, the Wyngate Inn has given us a deal on a meeting room package. The meeting room was a tradition started so that we could meet up on neutral space, without having to gather at somebody's house or in an actual hotel room. (Ron didn't want me bringing 'freaky internet people' home [Wink] )

http://www.wingateinns.com/Wingate/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=09911&brandInfo=WG

I suppose since we're taking the LotR element out of it, we can use the meeting room to watch other movies or play games or whatever. But I guess we could do without it.

It ended up being, what? $2.50 a person last year? ($25.00 a day for two days... It'd be $5.oo each if we had ten people. With Ben, Lindsay, Dave, me and Jim-Me, we're already halfway there.) We had more than 15 but fewer than 20 last year, I think.

It's actually in Kennesaw, BTW.

Wow, did he make an exception for me? I'm touched. [Wink]

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

[Wink] Of course.

The first year it was just me and Belle to begin with, and he'd met her. We were just going to go see Two Towers together, but word got out and people were asking if they could come. Like, from way out of town. So we got a hotel and a meeting room so we could be comfortable actually 'meeting' each other.

I broke his rule that year by bringing ladyday home. She helped with the set-up, too. [Big Grin]

I mean, Hatrack has a very low freak-quotient, in my experience, but I do like to meet people before they are exposed to my children and stuff.

That said, Ketchup was a special case. [Wink] Katie knew you pretty well, and I trust Katie. Plus, a Mormon mommy and her wee one? I should think you'd be the one worried about sleeping at some strange heathen's house! [Wink] [Kiss]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Again, people with two kids I don't usually worry about staying with. Plus, Katie vouched for you.

I guess Katie was our match-maker. [Kiss]

Be'lindsay and Olivia are always such a joy to hang with too - I'll vouch for 'em.

And I'd love to hang with the rest of y'all for a weekend.

Oh, and Allegra? That is one comfy futon.

Posted by Jim-Me (Member # 6426) on :

I haven't seen any of you people, unless the Ketchup Family makes it...

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Which we probably won't.

Unless Santa (read: my dad) brings me plane tickets.

Posted by Ophelia (Member # 653) on :

Oh, Santa would rock if he brought you plane tickets . . . (You know, the offer of a sleeping-place goes for you, too. I know half the fun is staying at the hotel [and we will hopefully be able to do that despite having absolutely no need to], but if you can manage to get yourself out here somehow, you don't have to worry about having a place to stay. We have plenty of sleep-surfaces. Not enough to host WenchCon at the apartment, but enough for multiple guests to be comfortable for a weekend.)

I have been asking around and I am sure that I will be able to catch a ride to Altanta and back with someone who is going home for the long weekend. It looks like this might actually work out! I might have enough money at that point for a hotel room (or maybe part of one), but I won't know until I see what Santa brings me for Christmas.

I am brand new here but I am seriously considering an Atlanta trip in January for other reasons. Hmmmm......

Posted by krynn (Member # 524) on :

so what is the total head count for people who seriously think they can attend? should we have nametags with our screen names on them when we get there? hehe, that would be funny. other people would see the "hello my name is ______" stickers and think we are seriously nerds. it would suit the title of our gathering nicely.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

We did that the first couple of years, but not last year. I think it's a good idea.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I tried to have nametags at the con I planned (hatrack unplugged), but they got rained on, and Rhaegar drew male anatomy on the one that wasn't ruined. That's pretty much how all of that con seems in my mind, but it was fun. Hopefully lots of new people can go to wenchcon. I'll miss you all, maybe if Allegra goes, she'll call me.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

ladyday designed some for the first one, and printed them on labels at my house. They were peel and stick, with an elanor flower in the background.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

A nametag would have helped when Olivia came to pick us up at the airport and neither of us had a good pic of the other. [Blushing]

We were both kind of eyeing each other up, because we didn't want to ask, "Are you Olivia?" or "Are you Anne" and be completely wrong. Eventually I think it was Olivia who was brave enough to do it.

wench

hehe. im really reaching for a distraction right now from studying for my 2 tests today. well, actually thats a lie, i havent started studying yet. how come later always seems like the best time to do everything?!?

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Wait... this can't really be WenchCon because we won't have the Head Wench. Plus, the LotR Wenches identify themselves at the owners/opperators of the LotR Tavern, which has a long history here on Hatrack. We only serve the Fellowship. The rest are Wenchlings and Wenchmen, who help run the tavern, defend it from the odd giant spider attack and so forth. [Wink]

This will not really be a WenchCon, because I doubt we'll be watching the LotR EEs or dressing up in LotR costumes.

Unless everybody still wants to do that. [Big Grin] 'Twas fun to go out in costume, but I fear the time has passed.

hmm, my gf is the same way with video games, she has never liked a single one. its a shame that i find so much pleasure out of them. i just see them as watching tv, but with video games u can interact instead of just doing nothing hours on end.

anyway, video games or not, i would love to attend Nerdfest/WenchCon.

PS. after re-reading my last few posts, i realized that i sound like a total video game freak. just for the record, smash bros is the only game i own anymore, and i get to play it maybe an hour a week with my friend who lives with me. Am i in dork denial?!? hehehehe

Ben is flustered with the freakin' dorks who dig Serenity and Firefly, because he finds himself unable to appreciate either. Not enough frogs, I guess. [Razz]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Well, while the Firefly dorks are in one room, he can be in the other entertaining everyone else with his best song-and-dance routine. [Razz]

(Oh, and I would like to point out that I do not appreciate LOTR at all, but enjoyed myself immensely despite that. So maybe he can just suck it up and deal with it and play a game with Emma-- if we come.)

Air Tran has this thing going on with Wendy's. There are these coupon things on the medium drinks. If you collect 32 you get a one way ticket anywhere air tran flies, 64 for a round trip. I have *counts* three.

Does air tran fly where you live ketchup?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Okay. Here's the deal AirTran flies out of LAX (which is not my fave airport, but for $64 will work), but only to Atlanta.

Which totally works!!!

How lucky is that?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

(Of course, I'm not sure if those instructions are saying you ALREADY have to have a reward account with AirTran, or just have to be 18 by Nov. 1. 'Cause we don't already have a reward account.)

(Also, I'm not sure if Wendys around here is participating.)

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Hmmm, and it's actually 1 reward credit per four coupons, and a maximum of 32, so the maximum you can send in to one account is 128, for a total of 32 reward credits. Hmmm.

Looks like $216 (if just I go) is the lowest fare for me-- I'd get there Sat. and leave Tue. Actually not that bad. But I won't be able to hold Ems on my lap, so that adds another $108 or so, unless I leave her at home and she stays with my dad (who gets national holidays off) that Monday.

Jamie is going to be taking an EMT course. She was planning on doing it in November, but the class is full, so she is planning for January.

The course is one month long, and 2 hours away, so she is not going to be staying here at the apartment for most of the month. Which means I'll be alone in the apartment for a month, with the exception of Saturdays (when I work, anyway).

I'd be available, but if I went, it would upset Jamie quite a good deal.

Ben, do you need me to contact Kelly about a room block?

See, they'll hold a block of rooms for reservations up until two weeks before. Probably, it will be at the same rate we negotiated before. Including tax and everything, I think it worked out to $75.00 per night per room. Shared four ways, it isn't bad (and more can pile in, they don't seem to care). Breakfast is of the free continental kind. The meeting room should be cheap if the commuters chip in, too (last year it was...$2.50? Under five dollars anyway).

The meeting room is optional, of course, but it makes a neat place to gather to watch movies or play games. Plus, that way nobody has to hang out in the hotel room/house/apartment of somebody they just met. It increases the comfort level by being semi-public. [Big Grin]

I'm in. I may or may not stay on site. My guest rooms are currently occupied, and if my sister comes that may also fill up my couches. However, if anybody I've roomed with before wants to crash at my house in a sleeping bag or whatever, I think that would be fine with Ron. Just a warning: my house is always full of people milling around. Privacy and bathroom time would be a premium. [Wink]

Billie, you're address isn't listed, but I'm assuming you need a room.

Swampjedi, your address also wasn't listed, and you never stated for sure your intentions to come, or whether you would need a room if you did.

If I overlooked you, or if you are interested but haven't said anything yet, please let me know. Everybody is welcome, and the more the merrier.

I doubt I'll be able to make it- I end up working almost every weekend. Bottom of the totem pole and all that. I'll be thinking about you though and wishing I were there. I'll keep the date in the back of my mind and if something crazy happens and I get the weekend off, I might show up spontaneously. After all, I'm already working Christmas and New Years, so I should get MLK off, right? Right?! (silence from the staffing department...)

Take lots of pictures!

The cheapest flight has come down-- something like $180. Jeff would keep Ems (wow! I've never had a weekend free from her since... she was born!), I would get there Sat. morning, would have to crash with someone... But right now, $180 is not in our budget for fun. Jeff wants to send me anyway, so I'm having to be the strong one who says, "we can't afford it right now", and it's HARD, because I want to go, and he wants me to be able to go, and just when I think I've pushed it out of my mind, he brings up that there's a lower fare. But we can't afford it, so I'm not going to even entertain the thought. *sigh* I hate having to be the strong one about stuff like this. But I suppose it builds character.

She was supposed to email me the contract while I was in the mountains. I had to drive 45 min to get internet access, and I never got the email, so I assumed Ben and Lindsay handled it, as they were in town for a bit more of the time.

Sala, WenchCon started when Belle and I decided to go see Two Towers together and a bunch of our LotR fen from Hatrack said, "May we come, too?" Many were from waaay out of town, so I found a hotel and scheduled a meeting room for our comfort (the hubby was okay will Belle coming over because we'd met before, but he didn't want strangers hanging out at our house and no one wanted to watch movies in someone else's hotel room, ya know).

Jenny Gardener came, bringing costumes her mother had made, and we all went to the theater in costume. The nine of us had a blast, so we did it again the following year for RotK and the year after that, for the heck of it.

I think wer should have a costume dance or a cosplay time this year, but it will not be so lotr-centric. The hotel has a hot tub, which is nice in January. We'll play games and eat out, Last year we went dancing. I guess it just depends.

The first year was mostly mature women, the second year we were swarmed with many, many boys of the under 25 variety, and last year it was a more mixed bag.

Everyone is welcome, and it will be in a relatively public meeting room. My one rule is that we don't break any of the hotel rules or break any laws. One year some 17 or 18 year old boy wandered around the hotel lobby with a bottle of wine asking for a corkscrew O_O which I didn't appreciate. It was my own fault, though, because I hadn't bothered to set ground rules. It hadn't been necessary the first year.

Anyway, this isn't some Scifi convention/orgy. At least not where I can see. *wags matronly finger*

Seriously, it's always been great fun, and every year has been different.

Yay! I don't think I've been able to chill with JaneX and Ela since...WenchCon II!

(As I said before - I only attend the even numbered WenchCons.)

how much was it a room if it goes to 3/4 ppl? wasnt it about 15-20 dollars a person?

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

It falls in that range with 4 people, after you do the tax. I think with three it's $25.00 a night.

Sorry I can't get a room this year myself, so I'll miss out on the slumber party with Ela and Jane [Frown]

Is anyone staying at the hotel? It won't be fun if we are the only ones there... [Frown]

...Plus, I don't know if we can do it without a roommate or two.

ok, i know i just posted a thread for this, but i figured i would mention it here. if anyone of u are interested in Legos for yourself or your children, I have LOADS that im trying to get rid of. If anyone is interested please let me know. im going to get pictures of everything up on the internet within the next few days. So if anyone of you are going to WenchCon and are driving, it might be a good place to get a belated x-mas gift for someone.

So I was thinking that we would definitely be staying at home, and not at the hotel, due to finances. But since it seems like I'll be getting paid for last week (supervisor just came in to warn me that my check won't be direct deposited tonight due to the fact that the paychecks haven't been shipped to us yet, which implies that it will be direct deposited at some point in the future). So maybe we'll be able to stay in the hotel after all.

*grumbling* I was just south of Atlanta last weekend. Right place, wrong time.

Guess I'll have to content myself with VirtualCon. If KQ and Quid will let me join??? [Wink]

i've been trying to get a group to go to Dad's Garage for the past 2 years. i'd like to drag them this year.

and dancing. i'll be shaking booty (making sweet love all the night, it's time i got back to the good life) per jane's request.

Posted by krynn (Member # 524) on :

we could all go see a movie together, and put our collected review up on the forums.

Posted by Ben (Member # 6117) on :

that would be cool.

Posted by krynn (Member # 524) on :

We should decide on a time everyone should meet at the hotel. Then, depending on what time we all choose, we should either go do something, then go out to eat together, or vice versa.

Posted by Ophelia (Member # 653) on :

In the past, we've worked around Ela and JaneX's schedules, as they cannot drive anywhere (among other things) between sundown Friday night and Saturday night. But Jane wants to go dancing Friday night, so I'm actually confused on that point now . . .

But anyway, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.

And with so few people coming from out of town this year, it would make a more specific meeting time easier.

JaneX, are you flying into Atlanta, or are you driving with your mother? (In other words, do you need one of us to pick you up? Since Ben and I won't be driving in from another state, I promise we'd pick you up and get you to the hotel much quicker. I could probably even ask to cut out of work early if I have to.)

And has anyone heard from ladyday? A few pages ago she said she was coming . . . and her e-mail is not listed, or I would just e-mail her myself.

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

JaneX and I are coming together, probably by car, since the hotel arrangements were finalized too late for us to get a cheap flight.

And I just want to reiterate that we don't want to stay at the hotel if we are the only ones staying there. We have made reservations, but it is pretty expensive for us if we don't have a roommate or two, and I'm just not sure I would want to spend that much money for 3 nights (maybe one, probably Friday night, since that covers the Sabbath, but not three).

I'd rather crash on someone's floor. (If it turns out that it's mostly locals not staying at the hotel.)

Posted by Black Mage (Member # 5800) on :

Wait, it's actually in Kennesaw? Awesome! I'll probably be able to walk there!

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

I'll have to clear it with the spouse (I think it will be okay, because he's met you guys) but a floor crash would be possible at my place, barring accidents.

I don't know if having no sleeping rooms for most of the weekend will hurt our meeting room rate or not. I'll try to find out.

Is everybody still cool with pitching in for the meeting room if it's $10 a person instead of five?

I'll just wait until I get hold of someone and find out. [Frown]

Did anyone reserve a room at the hotel besides us?

Posted by Ben (Member # 6117) on :

lindsay and i did. we want to stay there so we can use the jaccuzi

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

Livvy, we might like to crash there one or more nights, if it's okay with the hubby. I'm still waiting to see who else is staying at the hotel, and whether we can get roommates.

Also for Livvy, do you want more hand-me-down clothes for the boys? Let me know their sizes and I'll see what we have.

No allergies on my part! (Unless you were planning on putting penicillin in the fudge . . . which would be odd.)

As for head count . . . we're still trying to get that ourselves. It looks to be hovering around ten, which is rather low.

This is what I get for being on Hatrack Lite [Wink]

Hotel has changed management, and they are offering us the meeting room at $75.00 a day instead of $25.00 a day. Which, in layman's terms, blows.

Ben is looking around for hotels near your place for the few people who are coming from out of town, so they can be in walking distance of fun stuff and your place, too. Though he also suggested maybe sharing room expenses one night at the Winngate, just for the hot tub action. *shrug* We could hang out and play games in the lobby on Saturday, I guess, or split the cost of the meeting room for that one day. (We are also trying to sweet-talk the hotel into a better rate, but with only one room booked in our block, there is not much leverage).

I'll let you guys know what happens. *stress*

for those of u in kennesaw, can u think of any fun places for us to go besides a movie theater? also, we all might want to bring some food, and we can have a lunch/dinner together at the hotel buffet style. that would save us from having to go out for every meal, tho i would like to once with everyone.

Board games and group games are fun, but im trying to avoid those right now because i think its not worth the time traveling for some ppl to come all the way here just for group games.

whats the area code for the hotel ppl are staying at? maybe i can use that to find some more activites for us to do.

Posted by Ben (Member # 6117) on :

kennesaw has a mountain, we are just astones throw from atlant with museums, dance clubs, and DAD'S GARAGE!

w00t!

Posted by Black Mage (Member # 5800) on :

Not to mention a little drive from Marrietta Square, with its excellent Australian Bakery and general walking-around-ness.

Oooh! If we meet in Kennesaw, we have to go to Wild Man's shop! It'll terrify all of you.

Actually, I'm still afraid of that place. Y'all go in, I'll stand outside. Shiny?

Posted by krynn (Member # 524) on :

lets find a bunch of things going on that weekend and then we can all pick and choose what we want to do. maybe take a vote on the forum before we all meet up. Ben, a lil help with our options... hehehe, i like putting responsibility off onto someone else!

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

No, actually, Ben had me cancel with that hotel because they wanted $75.00 a day for the meeting room. I think he's just planning to have folks meet up at his place or something, though he can't seemed to be arsed to tell anybody.

And we probably will play games and stuff on Saturday, since Ela and Janex can't go very far on the Sabbath. Though some will probably just do whatever.

Honestly, I have no idea. I thought Ben might update before he goes camping. This is not my baby this year, ya know. [Wink]

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

So, does that mean that Ben also decided not to stay at the hotel? Should I cancel our reservation?

Saturday activity suggestion: We could watch videos on Saturday, too, if there's something everyone wants to watch. But games might be more fun.

Posted by Ben (Member # 6117) on :

i have a crapload of movies. and access to blockbuster yo!

and hotel was ripping us off, so we killed that. As far as i can tell, the only non locals coming (confirmed anyhow) are ela and jane. I am looking at hotels around my place that are not far at all, like right out the door for you guys on friday night. I also have a couch bed and a futon and all that good stuff. My place has surround sound, plenty of sitting space.

so...yea...

Posted by Black Mage (Member # 5800) on :

Posted by Ophelia (Member # 653) on :

I think that people are meeting at Ben and my apartment.

Taalcon is doing lunch with Ben, I think. I think people will start showing up after that . . .

I don't get off work until 5, so I won't be there until at least 5:30 (probably closer to 6, since it's a Friday).

Black Mage, are your parents okay with you meeting random internet strangers? Would they prefer to meet Ben and me first to make sure we're not psychopaths? Or would they like you to meet in a public place? I know you'd be perfectly fine here, but I'd rather not make them (or you) uncomfortable.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Ela and Jane. Y'all coming to my place? Do you have mty number from last year? When can I expect you? Is my floor really okay? I was going to make all the people who live here do some scrambling, but my BIL is having a guest on Friday (though they may both be gone by Saturday, I duuno).

Posted by Black Mage (Member # 5800) on :

Well, I personally cannot make it until Saturday. And I would prefer an initially public meeting, though enough Jatraqueros have met enough of y'all that I feel fairly secure you're not psychopaths. Otherwise it's a massive conspiracy, no?

Just how many people are you expecting, anyway? Or is that a total unknown?

Sorry, didn't realize I don't have an e-mail up. Whoever's the best source of information, drop me a line at Anthropo2605@gmail.com. I have to work out a few funky details, because what with drama practice this weekend, I'm not sure how much of WenchCon I can show up for.

And Ben, chili's not a good idea in either case. Either (A), it gives me the wind something fierce, or (B) I'm terribly unhealthy for consumption.

Looks like Ela and I aren't going to be able to come. We'd like to, but it's really a long way to drive by ourselves - we'd have to drive for what amounts to four days in order to see you guys for two days, and I don't drive so it'd be Ela doing all the driving. And if it's just the Atlanta clump coming, we can see you all some other weekend when we can get a cheap airfare in advance.

Have fun, whoever is going...

Ok, with the new developments, we have decided to rename this gathering simply, Kennfest 2006.

hopefully Nerdfest/Wenchcon can happen later this year with better attendance.

As it stands, we are still getting together this weekend, nothing has really changed accept the name and headcount.

I will also provide my cell number to anyone wanting to meet up.

I suggest that we have a public meeting place to begin with, such as somewhere in the Towne Center Mall (just off I-75 at the Barrett Parkway exit).

Is that cool with folks?

As to bringing food for a cook-out, I think the weather may be a bit rainy for that. We could still do a potluck-ish thing, if there is interest. I'm assuming Saturday would be best for that?

Black Mage, if it would make you feel better about meeting a bunch of internet people ( [Wink] ) I would be willing to give you my number in email and let your parents have my information, too. I'm an old married lady with kids and all, so I totally get the caution. [Smile] Email me at oliviaf AT bellsouth DOT net.

Hmm. Since I will definitely be spending all Friday with the crew, and with the news that Ela and JaneX will not making the really long drive, and the 'con' becoming more of a 'clump gathering', I don't feel like nearly as much of a bad person for, umm, sort of scheduling a date for Saturday night-ish.

Sorry about the cancellation guys. I was really looking forward to seeing you all [Frown]

I was really sick for two weeks after Xmas, and haven't really recovered yet - I wasn't really feeling up to driving 12 hours each way by myself. (Well, JaneX would have been with me, but she doesn't really drive yet, so I would have been doing all the driving. [Smile] ) I kept thinking up to the last minute that I would feel better, but I don't feel that great.

JaneX and I will stay home baking cookies and watching Cowboy Bebop to console ourselves. [Wink]

Interesting tidbit: I called this morning to cancel my hotel reservation, and apparently it had already been cancelled (I guess when the meeting room was cancelled?) So, if I had come up there intending to stay at the Wingate Friday night, I would have been screwed. [Eek!]

Have fun, you guys!!! We will be thinking about you

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

They must have cancelled it when the meeting room was cancelled, but I didn't tell them to, specifically.

I was planningon having you at my house, anyway. Ron didn't tell me, but his idea was to put you guys in the boy's room, and let the boys have a an adventure in a wee tent in the living room... So much for communication (I was telling him this morning that you weren't coming and that I would have been sort of ashamed to put you on the floor anyway, etc. Only to find out that wasn't the Plan at all. So NOW he tells me! [Wall Bash] )

Edit: ut I'm totally cool with it, and all. [Smile] I know you guys will have fun! [Smile]

Right, I might be cancelling. I'll try to make WenchCon. But on Friday, I have, naturally, school, and after that practice for West Side Story. Saturday's choreography work, so I'd only be able to show up later in the day.

If I can't come, y'all make absolutely sure to have a lot of fun without me.

Ben, please email me your address so i can mapquest it tomorrow morning.

ok, well nerdfest came and went and the turnout was not so great. even with only a few people we still managed to have a few good meals together and discuss the more important aspects of life: cereal, video games, movies.

a few of us saw Syriana together and we generally liked it, but wouldnt pay to see it again. so kudos to u Clooney for getting $25 out of us and mildly entertaining us for a couple hours.

Three new things that impressed me with my first real-life contact with other hatrackers were:
1. Ben's extensive movie and emulator/rom collection.
2. Being able to talk about the dorkiest things on the planet at dinner and not have to worry if anyone will understand you / elaborate with you.
3. Even with such a low attendance, i had a great time and would be willing to do it again sometime.

For those of you who came, it was a blast meeting all of you and we had a good time.

For those of you who didnt, well, i guess u will never know what terrible things we said about you. Though said things will surely be taken back if you make an appearance at the next gathering.
