I can't make it. But keep Beerfest in mind. I'm planning on going on Nov.13 in the afternoon.

BTW, are you working at JCPenney in the Florida Mall now? I work right down the road from there, so we can do lunch or look at drapes or something.

We almost certainly will not be able to get babysitting . . . plus we are going out Saturday night, so I don't know if getting inebriated during the afternoon is a good idea. But I'll keep it in mind . . . I'm desperate enough to go to the F&WF that I might just talk myself into it. [Smile]

You guys doing anything in early December? We're coming out for vacation the first ten days of Dec. It would be great to see the girls again, Ic. They must be so big now!

We're working, but weekends are good. We would love to get together sometime. Just let me know when you know more. [Smile]

Zan, we probably will. Disney is making it very hard to justify, though, with their new ticket system. We can get 10 days at Disney with park hopping with water parks and Disney Quest for $277 per adult. It's nearly that for three days at Universal. The important thing is whether or not we get to meet Ryan finally. [Smile]

We have to go up to Tampa at some point...I've got to call my ex and see when he wants us up there. Then I can start figuring out everything else.

I'll start a new thread on it when it gets closer.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

That is hard to beat. I know you can get a flex ticket that's good for 14 days to Universal, Islands of Adventure, SeaWorld and Busch Gardens for about $220 (it also gets you Wet-n-Wild, but something tells me you won't be going there in December). But those are all pretty much 1-day parks. Disney has a lot more to keep you occupied over 10 days.

I also saw that they're running a deal where kids (3-9) get in free with any adult multi-day pass bought. How old is your son? I should be able to get you a 15% discount on top of that with my pass.

Whichever way you lean, somehow I will meet up with you while you and your family are here.

Zan, kwea told me that you invested in a Disney pass this year. Is that so? Then how come you never seem interested in getting together there?

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Universal pass, not Disney. We'll wait til Ryan's a little older before getting Disney passes.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I said he was not interested in Disney this year, but that we might be able to get him in with Jenni's front gate passs. [Big Grin]

He went with Universal this year instead. [Big Grin]

That is why I said he might be interested in Fight Nights. [Wink]

Jeni, JenniK and I would be interested in meeting up with you when you come down. I don't know what the deal with Jenni's passes will be though, as we are having quite a few visitors in both Dec and Jan this winter.

I know that Jenni will be singing in the Candleight Processional this year though, and if you have never seen that it might be worth going to. [Big Grin]

Zan, I am working at the FL mall now, but they needed suit people so bad the "convinced" me to stay in suits. It turns out that that store has the largest men's suit department (by both sales volume and profits) in the entire corperation. Two people there constantly made All-Star, with annual sales over 350,000, which is something no one had done in my old store in 4 years, since they changed the commission structure.

I would love to ge together sometime, just give me a call at the suit department there and ask for Robert. [Wink] They wouldn't know who Kwea was... [Big Grin]

Or we can make plans and meet somewhere, that would work as well. I have every Mon and Tues off, and work anywhere from 7 am to 10 pm, so it owuld depend on when I was working, I guess.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

That would be fun, Kwea! I'd love to meet you both. What's the Candlelight Processional? We like Universal and (especially) Islands, having been there a couple of times before. One of my favorite pictures of my daughter as a baby was taken with the Grinch. They have roughly the same expression on their faces. [Big Grin] And my husband is our lone rollercoaster fan, so he likes Islands better than Disney. He loves The Hulk and Fire and Ice. (and don't worry about passes...we're flying there on frequent flyer miles, so we've got a bit of extra cash to have fun [Smile] )

So I imagine we'll make it there again this time. My mom is coming with us this trip too. I'm going to talk to my ex this weekend, so that'll help me nail down some dates.

Icarus, we may go Sunday if Kwea is free, I ll have to check with him as to his schedule, but if he's not available and you have a babysitter, perhaps I could stay after work and meet you guys for a few hours.

My mom is coming down the 2nd to the 10th, and I am gonna see about having the weekend of the 3rd and 4th off...I have Monday and Tuesday the 5th and 6th off anyway, so that would be cool to meet and hang out at one of the parks on one of those days.

I think it would be way cool to meet you, and I'm sure Kwea will agree. the Candlelight Processional is the traditional telling of the Christmas story through music and scripture. ( not a really religous thing) There are 76 members of the WDW Cast Choir, 50 members of the WDW Orchestra, 8 Voices of Liberty, about 6 Herald Trumpeters, and 450 guest choir members from area high schools, with a celebrity narrator and an AWESOME [Hail] American Sign Language interpreter! It is one of the most memorable things to see at all of Disney World. You will leave it with goose bumps! It leaves an amazing impression and is the one "must see" here at Christmas time. there are 3 shows each evening from the day after Thanksgiving through Dec. 30th.

Unlike last weekend, rain or shine we are going to Epcot tomorrow. JenniK is working until 5:30 is, so I will be at the main gate of Epcot tommorrow at about 5-5:30 if your plans fall through. [Big Grin]

jeni, my wife refreshed my memory that we will be on vacation at the beginning of December. We'll be driving back in town on 12/6.

If possible, can you hold off your day at Universal til I'm around?

Posted by Goo Boy (Member # 7752) on :

I'm going out of town this weekend, but the F&WF is still going on next weekend, right?

I might be able to get babysitting then . . .

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

I'm apparently going to F&WF tomorrow. My wife made plans with a group of old friends that go every year. I'd actually rather not go. If you don't have a pass, it costs too much to wander around Epcot drinking overpriced wine and eating overpriced appetizers.

Joe, have you got any interest in BeerFest next Sunday?

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Zan, absolutely. I talked to my ex, and Christian is going to spend the 1st - 5th at his dad's. I don't want to go to Universal without him. So your dates work out just fine. Are you a Mon-Fri guy? Or will you be able to go midweek? If it has to be the weekend, then we'll need to figure it will be Sat the 10th. We're leaving early the 11th.

Now it looks like my SiL in Alabama is thinking to meet us down there too, so that's going to take coordinating. When I know when she plans to be there, then maybe we can make firmer plans. I know Ic and Cor can only do the weekend, so we've got three days that would fit (3rd, 4th, 10th). Or at worst, maybe dinner one night? It would be fun to go to Disney with people who REALLY know how to do it right. [Big Grin]

addited: And Jenni, I meant to mention it way earlier but forgot -- that sounds really wonderful and I know we'd like to go see it. We have to make sure we meet up. I'd love to meet you and Kwea.

Can I go mid-week? Of course I can go mid-week. I come and go as I please. Such is my power. [Razz]

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

My mother-in-law and father-in-law will be here then as well, they get here on the 2nd and is staying for a week.

I think we are doing the Candlelight Processional at Disney then, the first Sunday they will be here. We may pass on dinner and special seating though, as money has gotten really tight lately. [Frown]

Jenni and I went to Epcot this week, on Monday, and Kevin (VelourMan) joined us later in the day. It was quite fun, although more expensive than I realized...which is one of the reasons money is tight right now. [Big Grin]

If at all possible we would like to do Unerversal...if I give blood twice between now and then I can get two half-price tickets. [Big Grin]

Weekends are hard for us, so perhaps we can arrange something else though.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

If we do Universal, we should do it during the week. I'd rather just chill on the 10th, since we're leaving really early the 11th. So Tues the 6th thru Friday is open for Universal.

Could we meet up for the Candlelight Processional on Sunday too? That would be very cool. Maybe Ic and Cor could do that as well? Christian won't be with us, but that's just how it works out.

What do you all think?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I would be into that as well, although as I said I don't think we will be doing the special seating for the Processional as we initally intended.

Tuesday would work for us for Universal, if we have the funds to go....Jenni and I both have Mondays and Tuesdays off, at least for now...we are both looking for second jobs now though, so that might change. [Big Grin]

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Should we make tentative plans to do Universal on Tueday the 6th?

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Sounds good to me. When we say Universal, we really mean Islands, right? [Big Grin] I like Universal, but Islands is more fun. This'll give Ross a chance to have someone to go on the 'coasters with him.

Zan, will Kristine and Ryan be able to come too?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Works for me, although I am not sure we can make it as my inlaws will be here..they are older, and he has medical issues so Universal wouldn't be great for them, I think...

We're going to have to take it relatively easy, as my mother will be with us also, as will my 3 year old. Neither walk very long or far without resting.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

jeni, they're both going to come I hope. One of the reasons I'd like to set a date is that we might be able to rearrange Ryan's days at daycare so we don't lose a day. That and I guess I should schedule that day with work. No matter how much power I wield, it's just polite to let them know I won't be in.

I can get a 10% discount on 1-park tickets, which would make them about $54, but they're also running a FL residents special that gets you a 1 day/2 park pass for the same price as a 1 park pass ($60). I don't see anything that would keep me or someone from buying tickets for you as a FL resident.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Will they ask for ID? I don't think I can dummy up a FL driver's license. [Wink]

I haven't gotten down to buying park tickets yet, largely because I wanted to know who was going to be where, when. That's falling out a bit better now. My SiL and her husband are definitely coming down from 'bama, but aren't coming til the 8th. I'll find out from them later this week if they want to play at the parks, and which parks they want to see. That'll decide me on which Universal tix I should get, and which Disney tix I should get.

How soon would we need to decide on the tix if we wanted to get in on your scammin' deals?

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

I don't think you need any ID. They only care about mine. There's no rush to get them. You can probably wait til you get here. I think they're internet deals, but I should be able to get them and have them hold then at guest services.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

We can get deals at Disney too, but it is only 10% off...a lot of times you can get multi-day passes at local businesses, I know Wal-Mart has 3 day passes, but I don't know if they sell any shorter than that.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Cool. I'll check with you guys first before buying any tickets, just to make sure that I'm getting the best deal. I am pretty sure we'll want more than 3 day passes for Disney. But I have some passes from the last time we were there that still have at least a day on them, I think. If I can find them.

Check HERE for some good info on Disney tickets. [Big Grin]

Are we talking about Sunday, December 4th?

Friday and Saturday are good for us for dinner and the processional. Sunday is a school night, and I know the girls will not be up to staying up that late on a school night.

If you're interested in spending a day at a park, then for us it would have to be Saturday or Sunday. We don't have Universal passes, though that doesn't completely rule out our going there.

A word about the special seating: my impression is it doesn't cost anything extra, just the cost of dinner. In other words, you pay for and receive dinner, and get VIP seating included. I also believe I can get 20% of the cost of the meal at most restaurants (though a large enough party size--or dinner in Japan--might throw a wrench into that). So, while dinner at Epcot isn't cheap, I'm not talking about anything uncommonly exhorbitant here. If you're planning to eat at a sit-down restaurant at the park anyway, then show/dinner plan makes sense.

-o-

Zan, I don't know about Sunday yet. Let me look into babysitting and other trade-offs. [Wink] I have not yet been to the F&WF, which is my favorite thing at Epcot, so I'm not going to go to the beerfest at the expense of the F&WF. I might be able to arrange to go to the F&WF one day and the beerfest on Sunday . . . gimme a day or so to work on that.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Sounds good, but I have to work every day but Sunday, so we are going to do the CP wiht them on Sunday...it is the entire reason they are comming down, other than to visit us of course.

My FIL is very ill, and I am suprised he is able to come at all to be honest.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Okay. Sorry we won't get to do that with you. :-\

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Joe, just let me know. I actually had a good time out there on Saturday. I think a large part of that is because one of the group going is an employee who was able to get me and Kristine in for free. The F&WF is always more enjoyable when you have about $120 more in your pocket than you thought you were going to have.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

What if we do the CP on Fri or Sat with Ic and Cor and whoever else wants to be there, then do Tuesday at Universal with Zan's fam and Kwea and Jenni?

I think we'll probably want to do the dinner and special seating. I did that years ago at Epcot when I was there for a conference and it was way nicer than having to find a spot around the lake wherever we could. That's where the CP is, yes?

Joe, would Saturday work for you, where we could hook up with your family during the day and then enjoy dinner and the CP that evening? Or will that be too much? I'm a little concerned about Rainbow's stamina. She gets wild as she gets tired, and she's just now getting to where she won't take naps anymore. It usually takes us a couple of days into the vacation to figure out what routine works best for her. I suspect that the day at the park will be tiring enough for her that she may sack out in a stroller. But until we get there, I won't know.

We're staying in a condo within 5 miles of Disney (need to find out exactly what they mean by that...whether that's 5 miles from Epcot or 5 miles from Downtown Disney) so my orignal thought was to take advice you've posted before -- leave the park in the afternoon and have a good nap, then come back a few hours later. We'll see how that works out.

I'd love advice in planning to do the parks with a small child.

Posted by Goo Boy (Member # 7752) on :

In general--and bear in mind that Cor is not with me right now to tell me if I screw up--Friday and Saturday night are good for us, and Saturday and Sunday day are good for us. (So Saturday all day long would work, too.) If you have a grown-up outing in mind, let me know so I will seek out babysitting, because otherwise I'm just planning on bringing the girls to whatever we do.

-o-

The CP is not like Illuminations. You don't grab spots around the lake. Instead, you watch it in the America Gardens (?) theatre, at the American pavilion. You will likely get seats even if you don't do the dinner package--though I have seen it be SRO. Your best bet without the package is to start lining up for a seat an hour early or so. But if you do the package, you will have seats in the first three or four rows.

Don't feel like you have to try to accomodate us in your scheduling, because no matter what you do, it probably won't work for someone. If it works out that we can do this together, we would love to. If not, cest la vi.

-o-

As you know, I don't recommend trying to get a small child to survive a day and night in the park. Even if Rainbow will not nap, I found when the girls were that age that a couple of stimulus-free hours in a cool, shady room really helped out later.

-o-

Epcot is not really a good park for very little kids, in my experience. The CP is awesome, and my girls, at least, have always loved it. But the whole countries and Future World and all that stuff tends to sail right over little heads.

MGM has a couple of good attractions for little kids, but, once again, a lot that aren't really little kid friendly.

The Magic Kingdom, of course, is wonderful for toddlers. So is Animal Kingdom, though, and December is a pretty good time to do the Animal Kingdom--it is unbearably hot much of the year. Animal Kingdom is a smaller park (in terms of attractions, not acreage) and it closes early, so you won't be losing a lot if you leave to nap, and then return for the CP. If you have park hoppers, that would be my recommendation for the day you do the CP. (Just because you asked! [Smile] )

If the weather's nice and your passes work with it, you might want to consider a water park. The Disney water parks have great kids' areas. If you want a break from the park but don't feel like a nap, you might also consider minigolf. In December, that can be a pleasant way to spend an hour or two.

Zan,

Does admission to Beerfest include your drinks, or do you have to pay for them in addition? I have searched for an answer on the website, but it's not clear.

-o-

We have gotten babysitting to attend the F&WF on Friday. (!!!)

Anybody wanna join us?

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Admission to Beerfest does indeed include the beer. They are small samples(about 3 oz) because it is a tasting and there are about 100 beers to try.

One thing that has always puzzled me when I've gone is the fact that the Anheuser Busch tent always seems to have a long line. Don't these people understand you're supposed to try new, different beers? It's one of those mysteries of the universe I plan on asking God about one day.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Okay, well, count me in.

Assuming it's not a problem, I'd like to invite my father along, too. He's not a real beer drinker, bit it sounds like a fun outing, and doing some things with him may help mitigate all the times we ask him to sit the girls so we can go out! [Wink]

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

300 ounces = 37.5 cups = 25 beer bottles = nearly 2.5 gallons

*gulp*

Yeah, I suppose I might also need a designated driver . . .

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Keep in mind that a lot of the beers are domestic and therefore, not really worth trying at a beer tasting. It should only be about 1.5 gallons.

I'll think of a good place to meet before hand. There's no reason for you to have to pay $8 for parking when I can park for free. Maybe the Skull Kingdom parking lot or some restaurant in that area.

Epcot F&WF . . . tomorrow . . . anyone?

He's got an annual pass, so I'm not sure what offers he has. I'll touch bases with him tomorrow.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Actually, come to think of it, I'm fairly sure he gets free parking because he's disabled.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

If he's got an annual pass, he's got free parking. If you go to the annual pass page on Universal's website, he should be able to log in and buy Beerfest tickets with an additional discount. I haven't done it yet, but I think you just print them out on your computer.

Why does your Dad have an annual pass to Universal?

Also, we can ask about getting tables close together, since it is the last seating of the night.

Sorry man, making plans this late it was the best I could do. [Frown]

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Zan, yeah, I think so. We get four consequtive days plus Rainbow was free for $99 each. That was reasonable enough I jumped at it.

Ic and Kwea, are we better off winging it and seeing what is available elsewhere? Suggestions? Maybe we all do lunch together, then split up for dinner -- Ic and Cor and us, and Kwea and fam seperate? I hate to even suggest it, but it sounds like we won't be able to all eat together anyway... Whatcha think?

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

You know how when you're worried about offending somebody you seem to offend them anyway?

With the attitude that I probably can't win, I will just jump in and say this:

I'm very sorry, but eating at 8:30, particularly by ourselves, will not work for us. I know it's not anybody's fault, and I know that it's a large party size on a busy day.

But Cor and I will not be joining you guys for dinner.

Sorry.

We will see you all during the day at the MK, and hopefully socialize then, and, hopefully we will be able to work it out to see the CP together. We'll just have to leave it at that. [Frown]

It is all good, I will call and edit the reservation (again [Big Grin] ) tommorrow.

I am just excited to see you all this weekend, and to see my in-laws after several months. [Big Grin]

a) I'm not sure if we're up for the MK tomorrow. It will be a game-time decision. Banana is not feeling well. [Frown] [Wall Bash] [Frown]

b) I called (before I knew this) WDW dining and asked if they had anything in the afternoon for a party of ten, and they had both 5pm and 6pm at Marakesh (in Morrocco). I've eaten there before. The food is good and there are plenty of non-spicy dishes. We also can (I believe) get a large table, or tables pulled together. I made a priority seating for 5. That doesn't committ us, because I can always cancel it; I just didn't want to lose the availability. So don't feel like I'm trying to push you around, and don't cancel what you have if you don't want to. Just let me know. If this works, great. If this doesn't work, then Cor and I will just have dinner without you all somewhere. (All of this, of course, assumes that we make it to Epcot tomorrow. Even if we don't make the MK. though, I am hoping we can still make it to Epcot.)

Okay, I'm calling it.

We will not be joining you at the MK tomorrow during the day. I'll call JW in a minute. [Cry]

That sucks, I was really looking forward to seeing you all, and intorducing you to my in-laws. [Frown]

I hope she fels better tommorrow, even if you can't meet up with us at MK...I hope you can still make Epcot though. [Big Grin] .

Actually, she seems pretty chipper this morning, so we're going to watch and see for a while. Maybe we could join you later or something.

I'm sorry, but dkw and I won't be able to make it.

We woke up this morning and realized that we're not in the Orlando area.

Plus I have a sore throat and she has a work-related meeting.

Sorry.

It's all good, we are already going to have too much fun...if you two were here as well it would be just WAY too much, and we would expire...

And then you would have to clean up after us.

[Big Grin]

Nope, nobody ever dies on Disney property. The standing order for EMS on property is to apply resusitation to whatever body parts they find until they are past the I-4 entrance.

I swear, they'd intubate a severed head.

NOTE TO DISNEY LAWYERS: I'm Joking!!!

Mickey, don't hate me!

We had a blast today. The Raders were very cool, and Rayne liked me enough to sit on my shoulders for most of the CP! [Big Grin]

Icky and Cor were there as well, and earlier in the day they had Bannana and Mango with them, so we all had a lot of fun. [Big Grin]

The Raders were "very cool," and we were "there."
