Has anyone else ever consumed this particular beverage?

I just so happened to discover it at the Spy Museum in Washington D.C. They have ten bottles for sale. Both my friend and I drink four, each, and the other two went to other people.

It was REALLY good stuff. It had a unique flavor and a distinct after taste. It wasn't till after we'd consumed the four bottles that we noticed the warning label on the back. It read:

" Warning: This products contains high levels of Caffeine."

And boy, they meant it. I do not think either of us slept for four days. One day for one bottle.

The drink is apparently made of guarana, a highly caffeinated berry native to the Amazonian rainforest.

The bottle also had this to say:

"Guarana’s naturally occurring caffeine is 2.5 times stronger that the type of caffeine usually found in coffee, tea and soft drinks, making BAWLS the most highly caffeinated soft drink in the market since its birth in 1997."

And now, looking at the website, I've noticed this:

quote:
Is BAWLS Guarana dangerous for children?

BAWLS Guarana contains caffeine and like all caffeinated beverages should be consumed in moderation, particularly by children and individuals with health concerns or caffeine sensitivity.

It might have been useful to have known this earlier. Darn.

Anywho, a greater description of guarana is:

quote:
What is Guarana?

Guarana (Paullina Cupana) is nut-like seed of a climbing vine that grows in the Amazon basin in Brazil just south of the equator. Guarana has been used for centuries by the indigenous people of this area as natural energy supplement and today over 25% of the soft drinks on the market in Brazil contain Guarana as a main ingredient.

The Guarana berry contains a naturally-occurring form of caffeine which is 2.5 times stronger than the caffeine found in coffee, tea, and soft drinks. In the United States Guarana holds a GRAS-status (Generally Regarded As Safe). However, as with any other form of caffeine, individuals with heart problems or high blood-pressure should use caution when consuming large quantities of Guarana. The recommended daily dose of caffeine is 35 mg., but keep in mind that most coffees and teas can contain anywhere from 2 to 5 times this amount. So BAWLS® Guarana, with its 80mg/12 oz.. is no more caffeine than a cup of coffee.

What is Guarana used for?

Guarana is used as a natural aid to increase performance. Be it physical or mental. Guarana is also said to help after strenuous exercise by cleansing the body of lactic acid buildup and thus bringing energy levels back to normal. Keep in mind that Guarana, as any caffeine, is a natural diuretic, and you should not drink Guarana in liquid form (such as BAWLS® Guarana) as a substitute for water, but rather as a pre- or post-work out supplement.

As I was saying, it is a very good drink. If you get an oppurtunity, and don't mind large amounts of caffeine, you should try it.

But just don't touch MY Bawls.

I haven't found any here; I've wanted to try it. I once got an offer for a free sample, but I never received it. *shrugs* Oh well.

You should try and find it. They don't have it here, where I live, either. Or at least I don't think they do. For some reason, I do not think Wal-Mart carries it.

I think somewhere has it, seeing as how Amanecer's apartment has like tons of empty bottles along the tops of the cabinets. I just haven't the foggiest where.

Why don't you ask?

I drank part of a bottle (several friends shared it) the night the 6th harry potter book came out. Between that and adreneline, I didn't sleep the whole night, not till about 4 the next day when I napped about an hour, and not again till 2am, so yeah it's really caffinated, I'd never stayed up "a whole night" before. I don't remember what it tasted like.

You only had part of a bottle? Wow, I guess that means my friend and I have built up a bit of a resistance to caffeine if only sip had that affect on you. What might have happened if we'd had such a reaction to caffeine and drank four? I do not even want to think about it.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

I had about half probably. But I almost never drink caffine, and I was already hyper, but I never felt the need to sleep.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Caffeine can do that to you. Its also an addictive, and legal, drug.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

yeah, I know

Pssh... you should see the amounts of bawls, red bull, coffee, tea... just caffine period people here go through. Its rather absurd.

You know how stereotypes generally aren't supposed to be true? Well the one about college kids and caffine definately is.

Red Bull is good for caffeine too. But the taste is horrific.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

and the one about pizza? Do you like Bawls now? You hated it the night I tried it.

Posted by Alcon (Member # 6645) on :

I didn't try it.

That and I never said I drank all that stuff. I tend to stick to tea, and sometimes soda or Red Bull if I really need it.

And hey, Red Bull tastes great! Like liquid Bubblegum... or Irn-Bru

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

You should have.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

Oh you may not have, and probably were the smart one, though you and russell got tired, kara and I didn't. I haven't tried red bull. But it might be worth it in terrible stituations.

Not where I got to school. People drink here what I could consider normal levels of coffee and tea. I think it's a culture thing...

After Prom, between me and three friends, we consumed 24 bottles of the stuff, and fell asleep a few hours later. Wimps.

I adore Bawls- you can find tham at any CompUSA.

I was in Brazil and conusmed a lot of guarana. I drank quite a few different brands, and on all the bottles/cans it said it was caffeine free. So, does all guarana have caffeine? If it did, I didn't notice, and that is something I usually would.

I did find that passion fruit juice (in Brazil) had the opposite effect on me...instant drowsiness...and the tendency to forget Portuguese.

Maybe what you drank was decaffeinated? [Dont Know] The stuff I've had has never claimed to be caffeine free.

Posted by MyrddinFyre (Member # 2576) on :

I think you have to process guarana in some special way to make it caffeinated, but maybe I'm making that up.

A wall in my room is completely lined with bawls bottles filled with Christmas lights. And I have a second collection lining where I normally drink them - at my studio drafting desk.

I've had it, and it is a very nice tasty drink. I especailly liked the distinctive blue hobnailly bottle.

If I recall, the taste was more ginger alian than cola-ish.

Guarana sodas are wonderful. I found that the guarana in neighboring countries tastes drastically different than the guarana in Brasil. Good stuff though. Has anybody tasted both Bawls and a traditional guarana drink? How do they compare?

Wasn't that what Peter drank in one of the Shadow books? I get Puppets and Hegemon confused all the time, but I believe it was the most recent of the two. Then again, it could've been Giant...

I had Bawls here, a while back. I don't recall any caffiene effect whatsoever. Same goes for other guarana drinks I've had. Although I do love guarana drinks. They taste amazingly good.

I found Bawls at a coffee shop in Minneapolis oh probably 6 years ago. I really liked it but it was extremely hard to find. I like the SOBE energy drinks, which can be found almost anywhere. Another good energy drink is:

XTZ tea® is a synergistic blend of ancient mystical herbs. Ginseng, Guarana, Maté, Kola Nut, Ginkgo Biloba, Botanical Herbal Black and Green Tea Extracts. Maximum caffeine combined with real citrus flavored tea. Tired to wired in seconds flat, XTZ tea® can put a half-dead brain into overdrive.

a couple years ago my friend and i got it as a substitute for alchohol...haha...i drank three bottles and it didn't do a thing...hmm? what does this mean? [Smile]

Is it carbonated?

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

I don't think I've ever gone out with my friends without one of us holding a Bawls or a Monster. The caffeine high is definitely more intense with Monster.

Litt_Doctor, Bawls is carbonated, yes.

Posted by Little_Doctor (Member # 6635) on :

Darn. I'm a non-carbonation type of guy.
