My old character got erased after I hadn't played for a while, but I'm starting over as if I didn't have schoolwork to do. I've applied to the Jatraqueros clan, but I haven't been accepted. My handle's sarmup, and I'm a level 6 seal clubber. [Smile]

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

Funny you should mention it. I just started playing again a few weeks ago. I'm mathmavin, a level 9 saucerer. I'm in a clan one of my friends is in.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

A few of us are still playing. We're clan chapeaustand now, though.

Posted by sndrake (Member # 4941) on :

There is nobody home at Jatraqueros. The active members all left to join chapeaustand. I was the last one out. Left the archers with about 3 years worth of food. [Wink]

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

I'm still playing, and chapeaustand has people who can let you have access to the clan stash - which was why I left Jatraqueros - nobody had the power.

C'mon over. Dana or Tecun or I can authorize your application.

I'm still playing, but I'm in Ascension Denial phase, meaning I can't play in the guild treasury for a hundred more turns or so. I'm on my 3rd Ascension as a 6th level Disco Bandit

Has anyone done hardcore yet?

Posted by Rakeesh (Member # 2001) on :

Interesting, it appears the debated cyclical nature of Hatrack has made a possible appearance in KoL, because I just started up again too, heh.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

I'm in a hardcore ascension right now. Level 8.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Dana - in hardcore, you can't get any items except through adventuring, right? No mall, no clan stash, nobody can send you things, IIRC.

That's why I haven't done a hardcore yet, but am on my third softcore ascension. The thing is, I thought I could take 2 skills from my 2 previous ascensions, but only got one choice. [Dont Know]

Maybe I'll do hardcore next time.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

You can buy from the market and the Bugbear Bakery and that sort of thing, but you can't receive anything from other players (mall, clan stash, messages).

You get to choose one new skill to add to your permanent skills each time you ascend. So after two ascensions you have two permanent skills, but you only got to choose one each time.

Skills from a softcore ascension aren't available in hardcore, though, so this ascension I started with no skills. (I get them back if my next ascension is softcore, though, and the skill I pick this ascension will always be available.)

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

So, no matter how many ascensions you have, you can only choose one to take into your next ascension?

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Yep. You chose one new one. But you keep the ones you chose at your previous ascensions too. (Except that skills from softcore ascensions aren't available during hardcore.)

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

What I mean is: you go through an ascension and acquire a new skill. You go through a second ascension and acquire a second skill. On your next ascension, can you only take one of your acquired skills with you? On your tenth ascension, can you only pick one of your 10 acquired skills to use in your next ascension?

I had thought the skills would be cumulative - each time you ascend you would be able to bring along the skill you picked from each ascension. It would take a long time, but eventually, you could have every skill.

I guess not, though.

Edited to add: By that, I mean, you could use every skill during an ascension.

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

I thought the same as you. You're saying yours aren't cumulative?

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

I acquired two skills in my first two ascensions as a disco bandit and sauceror. I was only able to bring one skill into my third ascension as a pastamancer, so I chose the ability to make scrumption reagents. I had to leave advanced cocktailcrafting behind.

Maybe I'll try to do some hardcore ascensions to see how it works. If I do three, I should know. That will take awhile. [Roll Eyes]

Plus, I thought the first ascension was considered hardcore, and you should be able to bring your first acquired skill with you no matter what. [Dont Know]

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

scrumptious reagents. sheesh.

Posted by Rappin' Ronnie Reagan (Member # 5626) on :

Look in your character sheet and see how many skills have a (P) beside them. You should have the two skills you acquired previously as long as you're not hardcore this run. The first ascension is considered softcore.

I've completed 6 hardcore ascensions already and plan on doing at least 14 more (6 oxygenarian). When ascension first rolled out I didn't want to do hardcore at all, but I'm finding that I like it a lot. There's just way too much planning in softcore ascensions.

My eleven year old daughter has been asking to do this. Is it OK?

Her eleven year old friend plays it. She says, "He is the minister's son, you know, Mom."

I could not tell her about all the ministers' children I grew up with.

Hmm. Except for the hole in the sky, where everything is a sexual innuendo, I can't think of a problem. And the innuendo is so straight faced, it might not be a problem there either. It's on the level of naming a constellation "The Trouser Snake" and explaining that "it's a group of stars that look like a snake wearing pants. Pants with one leg. In other words, it looks like a snake." Or the constellation "the family jewels" which "looks like a pair of gemstones."

There are a lot of jokes she might not get (mostly puns, actually.)

The whole game probably encourages a sarcastic attitude, though. You can decide whether that's a bad thing. [Big Grin]

RRR: how many of your acquired skills can you bring into a new ascension?

Posted by Rappin' Ronnie Reagan (Member # 5626) on :

Do you mean generic you or me in particular? In my current incarnation I have all of my hardcore permanent skills I've acquired from previous ascensions.

Oh! I just realized what is probably your problem. The database crash caused some permanent skills to lose their permanent marking, so they act like nonpermanent skills and after ascension disappear if they're not repermanented (*makes up words*). That happened with one of my multis. You need to kmail the player Xenophobe and tell him you lost that skill. I've heard he's pretty backed up on restoring skills, though. I kmailed him a while ago (several weeks at least) regarding my multi, and I still haven't heard back.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Thanks. I kmailed Xenophobe and we'll see what happens.

I also had a bug happen a few days ago but couldn't report it because our electricity went out just when I was going to do it. [Dont Know] [Wall Bash] It was the weirdest thing - power went out all over our little town. By the time power was back on and I got home from work, I think the bug was fixed.

Do Adventures still cap out at 200?

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Yes, they do. You can use some up at the clan gym if you don't have time to adventure and don't want to waste them.

Pasta Resistance has the moons phases so you can see when you get the most effect. For example, tomorrow (Dec. 3, 2005) is a Mysticality day. So, you will get 15% more mysticality when you adventure or work out. Sometimes on the stat-boosting days, I use clan funds to give more boosts to the clan members. This can really help out when you are just starting a new ascension.

There's a new opportunity to make - or lose - mounds of meat, too.

Look at the top frame - there should be a text menu. One item is skills. That's where you do the noodles. You can also do other skills that are like buffs - Springy Fusilli, Manicotti Meditation, etc.

I just made a pretty stupid mistake on KoL today. I was on my first ever hardcore oxygenenarian ascension (and doing fairly well - 200 turns and level 6) and realized today that there was no way I'd be done in time for any special content on St. Patrick's Day. So I dropped the path because I figured it would be waste to spend even more time in oxy to just drop it 10 days from now. But I didn't even know if there would BE content on St. Patrick's Day, and after looking at the forum I'm really afraid there won't be. And as if that weren't stupid enough, I then overdrank and can't use my ~90 turns on the stat day for my main stat.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

RRR: if your character is drunk, you can still use the clan gym. I do that sometimes on stat days when I've saved up adventures but get tired of playing. I've got two characters and don't always have enough time to play all the adventures.

Also, sometimes on stat days I buy training for the clan. A drawback to that is that people in hardcore can't get it.

I'm bringing this up because we have an application to the Chapeaustand clan. The character Sir Catis was created on Sept. 3. If this character belongs to you or a friend, please message me in the game and I'll process the application.

Hmm. I want to be a pastamancer. But I am not Sir Catis.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

pooka: if your current character isn't a pastamancer (if you are already playing), you can choose that after ascending. If you aren't already playing, feel free to try it out. I enjoy it, but have to admit I'm nowhere near being a power player.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Bringing this up again because the clan is mostly inactive. Besides my main character, only the characters pajeba and pogojoe are active. I took my alt characters out of the clan to avoid the charge of multiabuse.

So, if anyone is interested in playing, visit www.kingdomofloathing.com and sign up. When you are level 3 or above, you can join a clan. Our clan is chapeaustand.

They have added lots of new content - some is very time-consuming because you have to do certain things that take a lot of adventures, but all in all, it makes it more interesting. The latest update they are talking about is a new area (Hobopolis) opened up through the clan. The adventures will take a lot of money and adventures for one person, but take less time if people in the clan work together.

Snippet from Coldfront. Full transcript on Forums of Loathing.

dkw, you are Dana on KoL. Your character is inactive, but still in the clan.

Human: your characters are currently in clans, so I didn't whitelist them.

dean: I whitelisted your character (you can apply and be accepted right away). You will be a "normal" member at first, until I can change permissions. Normal members don't have access to the class stash, I think, but you can play around in the clan rumpus room.

One of my alt characters (Choxie) can be available for someone who would like a bit of a head start. It's currently in another clan, but I can take it out. It's a female seal clubber at the moment, I believe. The bonus about this character (created for a daughter who then decided she didn't care to play) is that is has a green pixie. Familiars aren't transferable, so if someone takes this, they get a freebie (for those unfamiliar with the game, for $10 you can get a Mr. Accessory which can be traded for a special item/familiar which changes monthly).

PS: Reactivated Coeffriction, Dekappe, and Minxaloo. I've forgotten the password for CreamLover, but I'll look for it.

If anyone wants to play with one of these further-along characters (~level 15?), I'll happily share. I'm starting afresh with BisonGirl.

Also, I have a Mr. Accessory that I'm happy to pass around. If you keep one overnight, it will prevent your account from being deleted for inactivity.

I was worried the policy may have changed, but as all of my accounts are at the same level, I think that it's okay. Let me know if this causes a concern for anyone or the clan as a whole (and again, happy to share).

Here's the relevant snippet from the policies:
quote:
4. Don't abuse multiple accounts.

This is a tricky one. It's not against the rules to have more than one character per household, or per computer, or even per person. What is against the rules, however, is to have a bunch of extra characters that act as item or Meat farmers for your main character.
Here's a yardstick: If your main character is accumulating wealth or advancing at a rate faster than would be possible without multis, then you're more than likely in violation of this rule.

If you're abusing multis, and your behavior is noticed, all accounts other than what appears to be your primary will be disabled. If you make a bunch more multis and start doing it again, or if the first abuse we notice is really annoying or egregious, your primary account will be disabled.

There are some things I don't understand yet, and it didn't seem the like the forums were the place to ask total newb stuff, so I thought I'd ask y'all. When do you get more adventures? What's an ascension? What other stuff should I know about?

Posted by EP Kaplan (Member # 10855) on :

You get fresh adventures at rollover, which is around 23:30 EST. 40 turns is the baseline, more if you have items that grant extra adventures at rollover. For instance, many clans have a calendar, which grants a few. Having a watch of some sort equipped will grant extra turns, or some weapons, such as the Sword Behind Inappropriate Prepositions. These items only need to be worn at rollover. Food and drink, as well as some other things, grant more turns when consumed, but you can only use so many per day.
If you're nice, the forumers will be more than happy to help.
Also check out the KOLWiki.
My character is Mialith, btw.

Oh, and if you have a Mr. Accessory, or just about any item from Mr. Store, you won't get deleted.

Posted by dean (Member # 167) on :

Thanks! That helps a lot! I guess I used up all of yesterdays turns and todays turns at once because I played both before and after the rollover. =D I want to play more now.... But I don't have any adventures.

I won't be joining you guys- I'm in a little clan with my friends at school and there's only like 10 of us.

Other ways of getting more adventures- the meat maid. Combine the spring and sprocket to get a sprocket assembly, then combine the sprocket assembly with a cog to get a cog and sprocket assembly. Combine a meat tank with a stack of meat to get a full meat tank- combine meat tank with cog and sprocket assembly to get the meat engine. Combine the meat engine with the frilly skirt to get the meat maid body. Then smart skull with a disembodied brain to get a brainy skull. Combine that with the maiden wig to get the meat maid head. Combine the meat maid body with the meat maid head to get the meat maid. Use from inventory gives an extra 4 adventures a day.

Wow- that takes a lot to type- it really is a pretty fast thing to do- you can get almost all of that from the Degrassi Knoll.

I'm pretty pumped I should finally be able to finish my level 11 quest tonight (the search for the Holy MacGuffin).

You kids have fun KoLing!

dean, you can create more than one character and play them at the same time, so long as your other characters aren't there just to mine for items for the main character.

---

Edited to add: In case this wasn't clear, you have to be of a certain level before you can join a clan (I think). Once you can, you should consider joining chapeaustand (Hatrack) -- lots of good stuff available for you there.

Posted by Xann. (Member # 11482) on :

May i ask, what is it you do in this game?

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Normal members don't have access to the clan stash. I've modified our two new members to Fedora status, which means unlimited stash access. We pretty much trust Hatrack people.

My line of thinking on the multi thing was this: I didn't want them to think that my alt characters were benefiting from being in the same clan as my main character - especially since I'm currently clan leader. I donate to the clan from all three characters, two characters take stuff from the stash. So, I took them out. I can bring one or more back and just be really careful - or even explain to #6 and see if it's okay.

Oh, and a suggestion I found elsewhere: instead of donating meat to the clan, donate dense meat stacks. Meat directly donated isn't usable for anything else. Dense meat stacks are liquid funds, so to speak. Please don't take more dense meat stacks than you reasonably need. (Need some meat to get a skill or weapon or something, ok. Trying to save up for a Mr. A in the mall? not ok.) Some clans will boot you instantly for taking one dense meat stack - don't worry about that. Just be reasonable.

The KoL wiki has much information on how to play the game. Take a category like location: you will see all possible enemies at that location, with combat messages and what types of things they drop. Sometimes I play with KoL open in one tab and the wiki open in another.

There are also forums within the clan, which haven't been active, but we can check them. If you have questions or need help, Dana and CaySedai are the top two people in the clan, and sarcasticmuppet has some powers as well.

One more thing: there are several special items that can be constructed such as meat maids, bartenders-in-the-boxes and chefs-in-the-boxes, and Ninja Pirate Zombie Robots. I had offered awhile ago to help make sure everyone gets a NPZR. I'm a pastamancer right now and don't have access to the right zone, but we can figure something out.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Xann: I suggest you look at the wiki. It's got a lot of explanations and shows what the pages actually look like.

Short version: Web-based stick-figure adventure game with lots of pop culture references and sarcasm. Your aim is to defeat the Naughty Sorcerous and free King Ralph. There are many quests - both required and optional. When you free King Ralph, you can ascend and start over, but you can keep one skill you acquired during that run. When you ascend you can choose between difficulties to play: hardcore, normal, casual. Hardcore, you can only use skills you acquired in hardcore. Normal, you can use skills you acquired in hardcore and normal. Casual, you don't keep any skills, but don't go through ronin phase.

This wiki page explains a lot about that. My main character mostly plays hardcore so I can use my skills in whatever case. My alts play normal.

Preferred procedure (my preference) is that when you apply to the clan, notify me (or Dana or sarcasticmuppet) either by posting here, by Kmail (in game), by e-mail outside the game or even smoke signals. What I'm looking for is to know that people joining the clan are either from Hatrack or or recommended by someone from Hatrack.

Oh, and since the Google ad is for KoL items listed on eBay, here's a word of advice. You can donate in-game to Asymmetric Publications - $10 gets you a Mr. Accessory, which has many benefits. I don't recommend buying virtual items through eBay.

The "best" non unique foods in the game are made with the level 15 Pastamancer skill at the Wok of Ages, which can be accessed by any Mysticality class at the guild. You need dry noodles, MSG (makes stuff good!), and your base dish. And an adventure to spend kicking the food up a notch.

Handy list of the best nosh, turn-wise.

In other news, a list of OSC references:

Hobopolis is up! I've done some adventuring in the sewers, and it looks like doing so expands the available territory to explore. I'm interested to know what other people see -- do you see several areas available to click on in the sewers? Also, I'm locked in a cage in the basement. I can chew through the bars, but it will take 10 adventures. It looks like one of you may be able to let me out. I'll wait until later this evening to get myself out, because I'm interested to see what it'll look like to another player.

Between this thread and my neighbor, I started playing this many months ago. I figure it's time to join a clan - this "Hobopolis" thing seems interesting. I'll be applying under the name "osc630" - shall I send a message as well?

Odd that this thread has been bumped. I was just coming to ask if anyone's been doing the old guy and the ocean stuff. I ask because the KOL wiki says that certain drops happen about 20% of the time, but although I've spent severals days worth of adventures there, I've never seen anything drop. Is this a problem or am I doing something wrong?

Thread resurrection! (well, technically thread revival, since I'm sure it will die again ... )

Some recent changes to KoL: Ascension has some new stuff. When you ascend, you get karma to spend and you can decide what to spend it on. You can now hard-core perm skills you had previously permed in soft-core. To hard-core perm a skill takes 100 karma, but you can split it and hard-core perm two skills you had previously permed in soft-core. You do get more karma for playing hard core.

There is a special challenge path this summer called Bees Hate You. You can't use from inventory many items that have the letter B. You can't eat items with the letter B, but you can equip them. Equipment that has the letter B will hurt you during battle. Certain items that are required to complete quests can be used, but you get hit when you use them. Every 15-20 adventures you fight a bee enemy. When you go to defeat the Naughty Sorceress, the third incarnation is the Guy Made of Bees. There's some more differences, but they are explained in the wiki entry. There will be extra karma for people playing this challenge.

Some changes since the last post on this thread: Deep Fat Friars' Gate has more content and adventures. Some other locations have been a bit revamped (Cobb's Knob, for example, the Cake-Shaped Arena gives familiar equipment every 5 turns now). Some things have moved - Bounty Hunter is in the Forest Village, Uncle P's is on the wrong side of the tracks).

Our clan is chapeaustand. We have three active members currently, and two of them are me. I thought I would invite people to start playing or resume playing if they want to participate in Bees Hate You or just see what is new.

For those wanting to join the clan, post your KoL nick here and I'll whitelist you. The clan doesn't do a whole lot, but there is a nice stash that is available for people (just don't clean it out - we've never had a problem with that).

They had some server issues Monday and Tuesday, and after moving data to new servers, have instituted a (temporary) new zone: a pile of old servers. They drop two items - corrupted data (you can get a new tattoo, just keep watching the message when you use it) and squirming egg sacs. The corrupted data effect makes your stat numbers go up and down on every adventure.

This is most likely a short-term thing, so if you want to get in on it, move quickly. I didn't read the announcements when I started playing after rollover, and used all my adventures and now my character is drunk. I played it on a multi, though, and did get the tattoo.

I changed the settings - I think you can just take stuff ...

If it says "You are exempt from your Clan's Karma requirements." then you can take what you want. I go under the assumption that Hatrack people are moral enough not to clean out the clan stash. [Wink]

I really recommend the Pile of Old Servers. My main character ascended last night, and I leveled up to 6 on just the 40 turns plus what I could eat and drink at various levels. In the first 4 turns, I leveled up to 3. So it's really good at the early levels. Now I'll go do the quests.

And I got the tattoo from using the corrupted data. People are saying on the forums that they use anywhere from 1-30+, so it's really random how many you have to use.

Also - squirming egg sacs? No idea yet what those will do.

Posted by Tammy (Member # 4119) on :

Don't understand how you can get a tattoo from drinking the corrupted data potion.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

I think it's like an effect - if you take it enough, you get the tattoo. It's not like an outfit where you go to the pretentious artist.

Although ... I still haven't figured out how to view my tattoos. I'll look it up later.

Just an update for those still playing. The Bees Hate You challenge path ends Aug. 15. So I think you have to ascend before rollover Aug. 15 or Aug. 14, I'm not sure. I know you have to ascend before the new path starts, though, or you don't get the extra karma.

So if you are playing a BHY challenge path, keep an eye on the date. I started a hardcore BHY eight days ago, knowing it will be close. I'm at level 10, but the last three levels take a lot of turns. If it comes down to the wire, I'll drop BHY and keep hardcore, though.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

They're actually keeping the BHY path around, just without the extra karma reward (which will then be transferred to the new seasonal challenge).

I actually really like BHY as a challenge, and may even do a run or two without the extra reward. Maybe. I do like perming skills faster... [Wink] I should be able to squeeze in one last BHY run before mid-month, so I'm super-pumped about it. And who knows how awesome the next challenge path will be?

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

There's lots of speculation on the KoL forums, of course. I will be busy concentrating on getting this last HCBHY run done. I don't like the challenge enough to do it without the reward. [Wink]

I've got three characters to play, as well, so I get plenty of KoL time. One character hasn't done a BHY run, but I doubt I'll have time to get one in before the end. That one doesn't have as many skills and is slower because of that.

Update posted on the KoL forums on Sunday, from CDMoyer:

quote:
Ok. I just wrote the code so that if you ascend into a run before the new challenge rolls, you'll get the karma bonus when you ascend (even if that is no longer the active challenge.) And made sure that the leaderboards will cut off runs that are not finished with the challenge is active.
So, if you are still in a BHY run when it switches to the new challenge, you can still get the karma but it won't count for the leaderboards. I don't care about the leaderboards, but I was concerned enough about the karma to finish my HCBHY run as quickly as possible and I'm working on a normal no path run now.

If you get an email with the subject New version of "Kingdom of Loathing", don't click on the link. It's a phishing attack and the Asymetric team is working on it.

People in the forums are talking about it and the consensus is change your password, and if you use that password anywhere else, change that one too.

Which I did, and now have to remember which password for which account ... I've got three.

Sorry. I had thought about putting an announcement in the clan hall - and I guess I'll still do that, but they did put something up on the main page when you log in.

If you go to the KoL forums, several people have posted ways to get rid of the virus if you got it. The bogus website has been taken down, now, they say.

There's a new thing in the clan basement - a pile of flyers that take you to the Haunted Sorority House. Right now it's at the boss, and I've asked someone to take the boss out. I will start a new one on Monday, and everyone is invited to play there. (I will post an announcement when this has happened, so you can see it when you go to the clan hall.

You want to be probably at least level 8 or higher - I played my level 7 multi in another clan and got beaten up. It's St. Sneaky Pete's day, so right now my multi is drunk and can't do adventures again until after rollover.

Advice: I'm playing a Way of the Surprising Fist run and found that drunken baby style is great for everything except ghosts, which can be dealt with using stinkpalm (usually). There are choice adventures that give you items you can use to multikill each type of monster. Visit the KoL wiki for more information.

This Halloween dungeon is going to be gone after rollover on Halloween, so if you are going to try it, start tomorrow after I post the announcement. The boss loot is only distributable to people who have had adventures in the dungeon. (If I have to have someone kill the boss again, they will get some of the loot.)

Edited to add: Looks like one more day. The person I asked to kill the boss wants his friend to do it, but didn't give me the name so I could whitelist him. So if the boss isn't killed I will go ahead and close the Haunted Sorority House by noon (central U.S. time) tomorrow and start a new one.

Edited (again) to add: No, I haven't closed the House yet. Yes, if the boss killer hasn't shown up today, I will do so before rollover. I really want to get in there with my main character, and also let other people have a chance.

There is speculation in the forums that the items drops from regular monsters (zombies, ghosts, etc.) will suffice for Halloween costumes. I guess we'll know on Monday.

The new haunted sorority house is open. I distributed the Necrobromancer's stein to Totoro, who had more adventures than anyone except my multi, Gytha Ogg. I'm going to play there with my main character (CaySedai, of course) now, which I would have done in the first place except I was overdrunk when I found out about it. Anyway, we can all play there again and if we get more loot next time, maybe I can distribute it better.

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

[Cool] Thanks for the stein.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

You're welcome. You had exactly twice as many adventures as the next person (except my multi). That is to say, two, as opposed to one. Next time we'll see how it goes.

Chatter on the forums indicates that people think that with increased monster level, more stuff drops. So I might try that, which will of course make it harder, but maybe we'll get more stuff.

Also, the more people who play there, the faster it will be, so possibly we could do two more runs (including this one)? The problem being that the outfit has three pieces, can only be given to someone who has participated in the dungeon and is non-tradeable. So it doesn't look like any of us will get the whole outfit unless we do two more runs and everyone agrees to give the pieces to Derrell (Totoro) if we get different parts of the outfit.

My main character has the plastic vampire fangs, which does exactly one multi-kill on vampires per instance of the dungeon. If anyone else has the fangs, please participate to cut down the adventures.

Also, if you are in a fistcore run (Way of the Surprising Fist challenge path), use drunken baby style on everything except the ghosts (remember to drink first but not overdrink) and stinkpalm on the ghosts. If not in fistcore, use whatever you use on the ancient protector spirits in the hidden city for the ghosts, and whatever you find works best for the other types.

Reference the wiki for how to get the items that do multi-kills, such as ghost traps, and keep track of your stuff so you know when you can multi-kill each type (some are through choice adventures, so you want to be sure what you have when you make the choice to go one way or the other). You can convert certain silver items such as Maxwell's silver hammer into silver bullets for the werewolves, for example.

Also, KoLmafia is updated to include this dungeon, in case anyone is using it. I recently started and am finding it very useful.

Today is 11/11/11. It's ridiculous, it's not even funny.

When you log into KoL today, you receive one accessory that gives +11 stat (muscle or mysticality or moxie) and 11 sandwiches or cocktails. The sandwiches give 3 fullness each, so don't be like me and eat the sandwiches on a day when you are close to ascending, so you can't eat key lime pies. (facepalm) (adds one more day to this run, but I'll get to start another Way of the Surprising Fist run before the new challenge path starts on Monday).

And ... the new challenge path starts on Monday. People are speculating that it will be a type 2 path, something like you can only use a certain number of skills and/or Items of the Month from the last one/two year(s). It's suppposed to a) make a more level playing field and b) be less of a challenge going into Crimbo.

If you haven't played in awhile, they don't delete inactive accounts as of Feb. 2009. I have been marking inactive clan members as Fedora rank and active members at Stetson rank, just so they will be grouped. The ranks are nearly identical as far as privileges.

Also, the Haunted Sorority House is no more and the loot is distributed.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

I'd like to remind people that it's Crimbo time. This year the Advent Calendar at your campsite gives you access to a candy diorama with a lollipop forest, fudge mountain and gummi mine.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

Crimbotown is back. You can trade in candy for candy credits, which you spend at the toy factory to buy presents for other people.

I have sent presents(the familiar and the more expensive of the two games, as well as pogs, Uncle Greenspan's Bathroom Finance Guide and a bottle of bubbles - the last three are stocking stuffers) to the other four people in our clan who are active.

You can send presents to specific people or "to the needy," which is random among those who are sending gifts.

Also, if anyone wants to grab candy out of the clan stash to trade in, that's fine. I have done so myself, to boost the amount to spend on clan members. The list of possible candy is available here: http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Uncle_Crimbo%27s_Mobile_Home#Crimbo_2011. (I tried using the url code, but it didn't work.

All I would like to say is I won't be doing another Oxygenarian run anytime soon.

There's a world event going on right now - fighting brushfires on the Nearby Plains. You have to have at least 3 hot resistance to fight, or it tells you to put on firefighting gear. There's all kinds of advice on the KOL forums, but one way is to fight using cold spells and/or cold items.

You get FDKOL commendations for successful fights (where you don't get beaten up or run away). We don't know what the commendations do yet.

In the Chapeaustand clan, I change clannies titles according to if they are active or inactive - just a way for me to see who's been playing and who hasn't. I don't think there's a real difference between fedora (inactive) and stetson (active) as far as clan permissions go. I'll check again tonight after rollover to see if anyone starts playing again.

There's a new thing where after 11 days (?) you can choose to abandon the current run and start a new ascension. I don't recommend it for this because you have to build up your character to fight fires, so it would probably be better to stay in the same run and just participate in the world event.

Also, I love the new challenge paths. Well, not so fond of all of them (Bees Hate You, Trendy), but liking the new ways to play. (You get extra karma for doing a challenge path when it's the current one.)

I hurried through a Boris run and changed to pastamancer after I freed the king. I use saucegeyser on the brushfires and gauze bandages or filthy poultices to heal. I'm getting 5 FDKOL commendations per fight.

There is a new thing now with a super-intense mega grassfire. It has grass snakes which don't take much hits from elemental spells, and I haven't figured out how to kill them. Other people say they drop items.

The world event is limited time, and people are speculating there's probably a week left.

The item of the month is a Clan hot dog stand. There are a variety of benefits to eating hot dogs. I'm working on selling items to buy Mr Accessories to buy this (it requires 3 Mr A's). Clan VIP keys are also available for 1 Mr A. They are going for about 12,625,000 meat right now. The alternative is $10 per Mr A, but I don't want to spend $30 of real money for it. You have to have your own clan VIP key to enter the VIP lounge. We already have a fax machine but none of the other extra stuff. (VIP lounges already have the hot tub and deluxe claw machine.)

If you haven't played in a while, things have changed a lot in the last couple of years. Every time you ascend, you earn karma, which can be used to perm purchased skills. You earn more karma for going through a hardcore ascension, or for going through a challenge path. There are seasonal challenge paths, and you earn extra karma for going through them when they are in season. But they are fun to play at other times, too. The current seasonal challenge path is Big, where you start at level 15, but most of the monsters are higher level, too.

Anyone who is interested in playing but who is not currently a member of our clan can apply in-game. Please message me there, as well, with your Hatrack nick. CaySedai (#138983) I check the clan roster from time to time and change ranks so that active members are a higher rank (and move up to the top so I can see who is active).

Update (in a separate reply because editing a comment does not bring the topic to the top, sorry about that):

I nearly have enough for the hot dog stand. I'm short about 2 million meat. I'm going to wait until during the day Tuesday to check again and if I have enough, I'll get it. Otherwise, I'm going to ascend and it will have to wait until I'm out of ronin or free King Ralph. I'm playing BIG! and actually did a four-day run last time. (my shortest run ever) I was thisclose to doing it sub-ronin, as well (ended up with 1,023 turns).

Anyway, my point is, if you have the VIP key, there will either be a hot dog stand on Tuesday or at least four days later, depending on when I get the final amount, purchase the third Mr. Accessory and then get the hot dog stand for the clan VIP lounge. Clan members are still responsible for getting their own keys to the lounge, which do cost a Mr. Accessory (which is currently selling for about 12,300,000 meat).

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

And another update. I haven't bought the hot dog stand yet. I do have the meat, but skipped playing for a few days, so my character is still in ronin and can't access it.

However, they are talking about a new clan dungeon. (Transcript of the July 18 radio show) They suggested that people who hadn't played in a while should take a week to power-level. The current challenge path is BIG! which starts you out at Level 15, but most of the monsters are harder to fight. Maybe if you are playing BIG! and defeat the NS and free King Ralph, the monsters go back to normal, I'm not sure.

So, they said the new dungeon will have the same number of bosses, with a different structure, but not a main boss. There will be "Bunch of interactions, bunch of puzzles".

If you've played the Hobopolis dungeon, you have to fight your way through the sewers to get there. Once you are there, it has different zones that each have a boss to defeat, then you go on to defeat Hodgman. Only clan members who have participated (got through the sewers) can have a chance at the loot dropped by Hodgman. more at the KoLwiki

They said there isn't a main boss. I expect that only people who have participated in the dungeon in some way will be able to get the loot, though. If you don't want to go through the dungeon entirely, there are other clans that let people in to participate and get loot without necessarily having to fight a whole lot. If you choose that path, that's fine. I'll whitelist current members to be able to come and go as they please.

Sorry this is so long.

I played through most of Dreadsylvania, except for two of the bosses. I am giving it a break for now in order to play the new challenge path - KoL High School. Once I've played that a couple times (or more) I'll do another BIG! run and take on Dreadsylvania again. Once I get the bosses out of the way, I'll reopen it so anyone can play.
