So, have you ever gotten into a song or a band based entirely on a single line? I know I have. Certain lines just really catch my attention.

Snow Patrol has a lot of those. For example:

"I broke into your house last night and left a note at your bedside." - Spitting Games

And one of my absolute favorites:
"Andrew's a starfighter pilot, and he can get high in his jet." - Starfighter Pilot

What are some of your favorites?

"Industrial love
Is turning our hearts into stone"

-Industrial Love, VNV Machine.

I got into the whole band because I grew addicted to this song after listening to it loop endlessly while I pulled off an overnighter last night.

Oh, always. And the two line quoting rule hurts here, 'cause usually it's a set of four lines that does it for me. That's all right. I'll just quote more of them to make up for it.

"This girl is a black eye, she's a bruise on your knee/She's the ashes of the people who you really meant to be." -- This Girl is Taking Bets, Thea Gilmore.

"When she was three, her Barbies always did it on the first date/Now she's with me, there's never any need for them to demonstrate" -- Life, in a Nutshell, Barenaked Ladies.

"And should they come to bring you just a small bit closer to yourself/Remember we are neither of us wise." -- Even, Grey Eye Glances

"It's just before midnight, the fog rolling in/I put on my robe and I dance in the wind" -- Pirate, Jen Cass

"I believe it's a sin to try and make things last forever/Everything that exists in time runs out of time some day" -- Mighty Trucks of Midnight, Bruce Cockburn

"It's the sound of one hand clapping/As it's pulling you apart" -- Loneliness, Annie Lennox

innocence targeted
whose god is this?
wish that she had one more day

Tori Amos, Seaside. That line gives me chills.

naze? naze? kurikaesareru
nido to ienai
naze? naze? kurikaesareru

Why? Why? Over and Over
It will never heal
Why? Why? Over and Over
My dead heart...

Dir en grey- Dead Tree

"Couldn't handle forgiveness,
Now I'm far beyond gone."

Shinedown, Save me.

This song haunts me. I think there's a really interesting vampire story in it, but I'm letting it stew for a while.

Ni!

Good choice Enigmatic.

"If only the wind was on my side" I confess that it doesn't really speak to me, but I like it any way.

The suckers lose themselves in the games they learn to play,
and children love to sing but then their voices slowly fade away.
People always take a step away from what is true;
that's why I like you around.

~"I Want You" by Third Eye Blind

Visions of you on a motorcyle drive-by,
the cigarette ash flies in your eyes and you don't mind;
you smile, and say the world doesn't fit with you.
I don't believe you, you're so serene.
Careening through the universe, your axis on a tilt,
you're guiltless and free, I hope you take a piece of me with you.

""And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad. The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had."
- Gary Jules, "Mad World "

Wow, weird! I love that line! It did not get me hooked on the band, though, just on the line.
