Try this out. I've gotten to about the 8th clue or so in a day and a half. LOTS of fun, and when you figure one out it really gives you a sense of accomplishment.

http://www.relpats-eht.com/

Basically, how it works is that on each page there is a clue to the next one. So say you figure the answer to the first page is "Cake" you would go to the website www.relpats-eht.com/cake which would contain another clue that you put on the end of cake/.

Posted by TrapperKeeper (Member # 7680) on :

Oh, and PLEASE do not give answers here. Totally ruins the game. I can see maybe a clue now and then, maybe something to point people in the right direction, but DO NOT GIVE ANSWERS.

Posted by Uprooted (Member # 8353) on :

I read the first page. I think I must not have the intelligence of the average high school student.

Whaddya know, I made it to the next clue!

I got to page 4, and got bored.

I got to page 4, and got stuck :-/

Yup, page 4. Got bored, wandered off, now trying again. Still stuck, though.

Posted by amira tharani (Member # 182) on :

I can't get the first one. Someone give me a hint!

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

amira: any of the phrases in the first one strike you as a bit weird?

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

Page 5, but I had to go to a different site, but not a cheater site. Unfortunately, I didn't take that class in school and needed a reference.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

stuck on page 4 as well.

Posted by TrapperKeeper (Member # 7680) on :

Oh, for alot of them you have to go do some research on outside sites. With the exception of the first two, I've had to research or use outside materials for every one.

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

Use what you got from page 3. [Smile]

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

page 5. hmmmm....

Posted by TrapperKeeper (Member # 7680) on :

In fact, 5 would be downright impossible without using outside website/s

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

I'm flat out stumped on 5, and I know I can not find it. I know key phrases of what to google, but what to look for? No way. Need some help.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

yeah, same thing here.

Posted by TrapperKeeper (Member # 7680) on :

Key phrases: Quake, Model, CRYPTIC, Page 5

Yeah, that was is pretty much impossible. I was able to work together with a couple people on it and eventually figure it out. If this hint isnt enough, ill give one more tomorrow. bout to head home from work.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

unfortunately, googling that brings up cheater sites.

Many of the phrases strike me as a bit weird...

The whole thing is very awkwardly written.

I can't get past page 3. Bleh.

Posted by Rico (Member # 7533) on :

I found the answers to the 1st and 2nd puzzles.

I decided to stop playing when I noticed that the many typos and grammatic blunders in the first page were not part of the puzzle. Funny how he claims to have correct grammar and spelling on the second page [Big Grin]

Posted by Rico (Member # 7533) on :

afr: That's binary. My bet would be that you have to convert it to either decimals or ASCII in order to get your answer.

Posted by advice for robots (Member # 2544) on :

I've tried it every which way and I can't find the answer.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

alright, page 5 was pretty cool. Tough, but cool.

Posted by starLisa (Member # 8384) on :

I'm on the second to last page. And I'm irked.

Posted by Alcon (Member # 6645) on :

I don't get it, I can't even figure out what length of phrase I should be looking for here. The first paragraph is barely a clue.

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

Someone just tell me the answer to 5.

Posted by Youth ap Orem (Member # 5582) on :

Somone just tell me the answer to 1. :'(

Posted by Avadaru (Member # 3026) on :

All the binary code translators I've tried have told me that the numbers given are not real binary. I think I'm missing something? [Confused]

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

For 1: something on that page is very arbitrary. Figure out what it represents. Really, it's easy as...something.

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

So what is the answer for 4?

-Bok

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

The answer to 3 suggests something about the missing letters.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Avadaru, add a zero to the beginning of each one. That should help.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

I think 5 has something to do with primes, but that was the point at which I said to heck with it.

Posted by Uprooted (Member # 8353) on :

OK, Dag, you gave me the answer to page one. Now the clue is glaringly obvious but since I couldn't find it on my own I guess I'm still dumber than his pet rock, so I'll just bow out of this here contest!

Posted by Morbo (Member # 5309) on :

So is it cheating to just google site:www.relpats-eht.com and skip to the last page? I'm always impatient. The last page is some weird hex code anyway, I'll never figure it out.

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Yeah. I tried that cheat right after I solved the first clue. Then, because I had all the answers laid out in front of me, I lost interest.

Posted by theresa51282 (Member # 8037) on :

I am completely stuck still on page one. I just don't get what I am looking for even with clues. guess this game might not be for me

Posted by theresa51282 (Member # 8037) on :

ooh I got one... but now I am stuck on two.. I think this game is going to drive me bonkers

Posted by ifmyheartcouldbeat (Member # 8692) on :

don't worry theresa..neither am i..i was never very good with ridles..my sis on the other hand..

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

I'm sure I'm looking at the right part of number one; I just can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to do with it...

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

yeah, number 5 has some wierd sequence of primes. But it doesn't seem to have any pattern to it. Irritating.

As for binary conversions, it's better to use the windows calculator, set it to scientific mode, and convert that way (or do it by hand.)

Number 2 is a little joke by him. The answer is right in the paragraph.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Google the primes.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

Thanks. Very obvious. Should have googled it. Now trying to find a binary-dec converter for something as large as the next sequence. Windows won't take anything that large.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

OK I just started fiddling with number one this morning and I feel like an idiot already. I think I have the arbitrary information but I can't figure out what to do with it.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

(Grammar Nazi: Please, please add the apostrophe in the thread title. The juxtaposition is killing me.)

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

ok, I figured it out... on to #2. Beginning to think this is stupid though.

edit for update: now stuck on 5 with the rest of you. I am not mathmatical so the primes pages I am looking up are no help to me. I still don't know what I'm looking for.

Yes, that really annoyed me, too. It led me down a few wrong paths before I finally got the answer. I believe my reaction to getting the answer for Page 2 was "you've got to be kidding me".

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

I'll probably have to break down and make a binary-dec converter that can handle a 67 bit number. Hopefully, that should do it.

I took that series of hex codes and used them as colors. Like the first one was:

<span style=font-size:8pt;background-color:"#555273">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</span>

With all 2296 hex codes one after the other. I wound up with this nifty psychedelic thing, but no matter how I adjust the browser to change the dimensions of the grid, no image I can recognize appears.

The page is here, for anyone who wants to play with it and see if you can make anything of it. If you're interested, 2296 factors to 2^3 * 7 * 41. The most likely grid would seem to be 41 * 56, or 56 * 41, but who knows. And maybe the "only one left" thing means that you need to remove all the colors but one in order to see whatever it is.

Or maybe they aren't colors at all.

*laughs at answer to page five*

I thought he might be going in that direction (I tried something similar as my first attempt) but it took me some googling to finally get it. Very cool. [Cool]

Does anybody know of a page with the answers?

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

Sometimes, Stargate helps me solve puzzles.

Hee hee.

Is 5 the one with the primes or the one about encryption?

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

Ugh. Two was stupid..

Posted by TrapperKeeper (Member # 7680) on :

Haha, most people (myself included) just figured what the heck and tried something random on page two and it worked.

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

Got six. [Cool]

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

On 4, are the typos important, or just the missing letters?

-Bok

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

Both are important.

edit: Oh hey, I have a palindromic post count! (1551)

Posted by Youth ap Orem (Member # 5582) on :

So, whats the answer to 1. :'(

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

Ok, that was a dead end (and I realized my value was wrong). Still working on 5, the one with the primes. I get the pattern and provided the next one using the encoding he used. But nothing.

hmmm...

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

Youth, what's the absolute weirdest thing he's written there? As in, there seems to be no reason for it, except maybe his whim?

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

I know next to nothing about encryption. Anyone have hints?

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

there are a couple of words there that can be googled, along with encryption. Words that he did not, in fact, give us earlier, so they stand out.

Posted by Youth ap Orem (Member # 5582) on :

Yay, I got 1 and 2 now, I knew that had to be part of the clue, but it took me forever to get what it was! Now number 3 is giving me problems.

Posted by Eldrad (Member # 8578) on :

I googled relpats-eht to see how many hits I would get from it, and there were quite a lot more than I expected. I'm starting to think this guy created the puzzle just to show off.

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

Please, please help me with number one? I really am very sure that I know what I'm supposed to be looking at, but I have absolutely no clue what I'm supposed to do with it. Everything I try comes up dead.

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

Got seven. Onto eight! [Big Grin]

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

I'm stuck on the one that has only one line (I guess that's seven).

Edit: Never mind. Got it.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

Stuck on 5. Any ideas? As I said, I figured out the encoding and what the pattern was, then the next in the sequence, encoded it as per his examples, and entered it. Nothing.

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

IanO, check your email.

Posted by IanO (Member # 186) on :

I make things too complicated. thanks xnera.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

For number 1, find the random things referenced in earlier hints and write them out. Then, think about the area of a circle.

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

So, how's everyone doing? I'm on ten right now.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

I got to twelve, with some, uh, help.

As near as I can tell, no one has solved 12 yet.

Posted by xnera (Member # 187) on :

Yeah, looks to me no one's got 12, either (I'm assuming we got the same help).

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

More than likely. [Big Grin]

This guy, from everything that I've read, sounds like one of those people who thinks that ONLY people heavy into math and computer science are intelligent. Heaven forbid that people who aren't interested in programming like puzzles. [Wink]

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

I'm hung up on number five yet.

You're supposed to use quake, model, and cryptic as clues. They are supposed to point you to the model system used for quake (which, apparently, every high school student knows [Roll Eyes] ). Once you've figured out what encryption to use, you apply it to something in the riddle.

I've done some googling and still come up dry..

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

For 5 I googled quake model and cryptic and found a whole ton of interesting stuff, but none that makes any sense to my brain.
Do you have any more hints?

In order to find the answer, you have to use the system model for quake (?), which is apparently something called md5. You should encrypt something on that page using that encryption.

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

So close, I'd found MD1/2/3 but not 5.. unfortunately the 5 part now makes sense..

How does one encrypt something?
