The crux of his arguement that Mormon faith is evil because it interfeares with Gods will (ie: humanities free will) and that supposedly Mormonism interferes with free will, however his arguement is based off his personal experience of having to pay a 100$ fine for smoking, a law that he claims but hasn't given any proof of being lobbied by Mormons, and that by his logic equates Mormons with slowly removing civil liberties.

This discussion begins about halfway through the thread, what do other people think?

Loony.

-ies.

In a nutshell, laws don't automatically remove free will.

Brainwashing may. Socialization can. Legislation does not.

With his logic all religion is evil, because all religion has some type of moral code limiting ones actions.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

With this logic, everything besides anarchy is evil.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

Even anarchy is evil, because it removes my ability to exercise my free will to limit yours.

Guess mormons are behind the anti smoking laws in NY, CA and all the other states that have passed similar laws... [Roll Eyes]

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Texas has an anit-smoking law as well. Austin will be delighted to know that the Mormons are behind that as well.

Those damn mormons are everywhere!

I knew it.

I'm pretty sure we could find a person to say you were evil too.

Or me, or anyone here for that matter.

I hereby declare Breyer, Megan, and... oh, let's say Scott (for the Green Jello thing) evil. And maybe that smitty character too, people kindly avoid smoking around him, which of course infringes on their rights to smoke guilt-free. Oh, and Dagonee, because I never know how to pronounce his name, which interferes with my right to all easily-pronounced words.

How evil are you? (One incidence of the "d-word".)

You better learn before I take over the world. Anyone who mispronounces the loyalty oath gets turned over to Martha Stewart.

Well, I'm working on taking over all the electricity, so maybe we should work together on this.

That damn Martha Stewart. I wish I'd known her skin was made out of rubber BEFORE I tried to electrocute her.

Like I needed your silly declaration. I self-identfy as evil. I exude evil. It's on my business card even.

Exactly.

Wow, I'm pretty impressed. Can you charge more than pitchforks to my account? I might need a scapegoat one day, to try and explain particular charges...

Ketchupqueen, I missed the last meeting, that was two meetings ago [Wink]

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

so un evil that attending the meetings doesn't make me moreso.

Pshaw. Pitchforks are SO 16th century.

These days, I buy frontloaders.

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

I would think you would buy something a little more... menacing.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Buy? A truly evil person would just steal them.

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

Well, he's buying with someone else's credit cards, so...

You don't feel menaced by frontloaders? You're either really, really stouthearted, or amazingly stupid.

Let me just add that neither of those attributes is especially useful when staring down a frontloader on a rampage.

Seriously.

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

well, they tend to be kinda... slow. And the drivers are relatively easy to pick off from long range. And they can't sneak up on you, at all.

Edit: You're narrow-minded. I could easily be both.

Pfft. You can already do that, seven days a week. Twice on Sundays.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yeah, but that's a little too much meat to comply with the Word of Wisdom.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

They make an exception for baby meat, I've heard.

Posted by kmbboots (Member # 8576) on :

Could you guys do something about this whole nine-to-five, five days a week thing? I am not a day person.

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

Sure! We'll switch to 7 to 5, six days a week.

Wait, I'm only 41% evil. I can't do that.

Posted by kmbboots (Member # 8576) on :

Aww...come on. What good is having all that power if you can't use it to let your friends sleep in?

The key word phrase here is 'your friends.'

I shouldn't have to paint you a picture.

Posted by kmbboots (Member # 8576) on :

Awww...sad now.

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

Hmmmm... your point is well reasoned. How about if we go 10 to 4, with a mandatory 2 hour, three drink minimum lunch?

Posted by kmbboots (Member # 8576) on :

I'd settle for 11 to 6 with a mandatory nap!

But Scott says no. (Big meanie)

While Scott is playing with his front loader, we'll change a few things kate [Wink]

One of the guys on this site posted the following:

quote:
As to Mormons, there is a primary contention between Christianity as a whole and Mormon beliefs. Every denomination of Christianity, from the Catholics to the Evangelicals, the Baptists to the Lutherans, all believe in the divinity of Christ. Even the word Christian -- A Christian is like an American, we are members in the Body of Christ. Yet Mormon belief puts forward that we are not members in the Body of Christ, but rather this Jesus character was actually the Archangel Michael pretending to be this Jesus character.
I don't know where the poster got this idea but it couldn't be further from the truth. In 40+ years of being Mormon I've never heard anything like it from either Mormons or anti-Mormons. If you are going to take the effort to slander some ones religions, you should at least make an effort to get the facts believable.

Posted by smitty (Member # 8855) on :

Rabbit, it's a lot easier to make up facts and statistics. The target audience (ie, gullible people) never bother to check.

Damn those Mormons for their unholy emphasis on obscure and incomprehensible theological arguments that they don't actually have. Damn them to hell.

I'm actively resisting getting sucked back in.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Eh, if you're having to actively resist it's already to late for you Pat. It's time for somebody to make an official "Welcome Back Pat!" thread.

No. I forbid it.

That's fine. A 19 hour work day, 6 days a week will be adequate, unless I decide I don't like you.

Posted by kmbboots (Member # 8576) on :

You, too? Sad again, now.

Posted by human_2.0 (Member # 6006) on :

human_2.0 = 8 + 21 + 13 + 1 + 4 + _ ( = -2) + 2 + . ( = 1) + 0 = 48

evil = 5 + 22 + 9 + 12 = 48

Therefore human_2.0 = evil [Evil]

Someone's confused. Isn't that something similar (if a twisted and editorialized version) to the Jehovah's Witness view of Christ?

I've had people who, when I informed them I was Mormon, started asking me questions as if they thought I was amish.

Brigham Young said (in the Journal of Discourses) something that could be interpreted to mean what that poster said. Nobody believes that is what it means though.

Posted by human_2.0 (Member # 6006) on :

And actually, I thought that poster was going to say something like:

Mormons aren't considered Christian because they don't believe in the Trinity.

When the film 'the Witness' hit theaters in Italy, they translated 'Amish' into 'Mormon.'

Still looks like a bunch of people being apoplecticly bent on condemning each other and the world to me.

I used to have a similar attitude, I hope I have changed enough to be able to appreciate why another equally inteligent individual can hold beliefs completely different from my own.

In regards to the last poster thirddensity, what he is talking about there is not LDS doctrine, rather what seems to be a personal expansion of general beliefs that are held by many who IMHO are trying to get to the calculus before having mastered long division. By that I mean I have heard vaguely similar discussions, but it remains speculatory expansion of scant information quite unrelated to core church doctrines.
