A co-worker of Brian's offerred to take us to a wine tasting tomorrow night. They are even pressing their teenager into service as a free sitter. I was excited until I was dressing this morning and realised...I have nothing to wear. I'm fat, and nothing fits. The only thing that fits flatteringly is an ankle length long sleeve black jersey dress. I've worn it for The Nutcracker and the Christmas play so far this year. I'm not sure it's dressy enough though. I'm too po' to go buy something, even a used something, at this point. Most of my wardrobe is baggy sweaters, jeans and hippie skirts. Help!!

Do you have scarves or a shawl? Both of those could dress up that black dress considerably. Many wine tastings aren't exceedingly formal, anyway. I'd wear the dress and try to add some color in the form of a scarf and/or shawl and put my hair up.

No shawl though. If I had a pretty yarn and didn't want to sleep tonight...but alas, I don't have the yarn.

It depends on the tone of the thing. If it is frowned upon to taste more than one bottle in a gulp, you want something that looks fairly modest to start with, but comes off easily. On the other hand, if you are expected to have tasted some beer when you show up, just to get things started, then it is perfectly acceptable to be nude.

Let me think some more. I have kind of the same wardrobe issues as you, although I TRY to keep a couple of things that look halfway decent available, it doesn't always work...

Do you have any jewelry you can use to dress up the dress? I am thinking nice-looking costume jewelry necklaces or beads (or real stuff, if you have it ). Also, an interesting, dressy belt can make black jersey look more snazzy.

I used to have a turquoise and silver belt that I found at a yard sale and used for just such purposes. No clue where it is now, though. But yes, try flashy jewelry!
