I posted a time or two about job offers that I have had that would have left me working for companies or organizations that I disagreed with.

There was the yellow pages like company that offered an inferior product.

There was the Chamber Of Commerce who's CEO was not only trying to lobby for the profits of businesses over individuals, but was cheating the majority of his constituents by lobbying for the rights of Large CEO's over the rights of stock-holders and smaller businesses. (He was also the CEO of a major corporation that was being sued by its stock holders for inept performance. He used his position at the Chamber to push for legally barring stock holders from suing their corporate officers)>

However, now it is getting worse.

I am in the middle of negotiations to work for one of the greatest radio stations in the country. KMOX was the talk radio station that my father listened too while I was growing up. I listened to it all to often, and enjoyed it all to much. It is the largest AM station in the region, has been around for 80 years, and has done much for the city of St. Louis, the region, the mid-west, news and media in general.

The offer, if they decide on me, would greatly improve my families standard of living.

It would be an honor to work for them, and a financial treat.

The only problem is, that for three hours a day, they play Rush Limbaugh.

Now, I have liberal tendancies, but I can put them aside to listen to conservative view points. Some of my best friends are conservatives. It is not Rush's conservative view points that I have a problem with.

Its his tactics. They serve to rip people apart, not build us together. I could go into a long list of why I think his show is unworthy and, well, pitiful.

And if, in two weeks, when KMOX makes thier decision, they offer me the job, it will be my duty to get advertisers for his show.

Is this something I can do? In order to feed and house my family, yes.

Just please, don't make me listen to him.

PS, any good wishes on the job would be appreciated.

Well, good luck Dan. I assume you will be getting advertisers for other shows on that station that you do enjoy/approve of as well? I hope? If so, just hold your nose during that part of your duties! ;-)

(I'm with you--I have conservative tendencies and I think the guy's a pig. His tactics are unbearable. Can't stand to listen to him.)

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking that position. Rush Limbaugh's slimy, but he's only preaching to the choir; you're keeping those who really like his approach enthralled and away from people who'd find it impossible to discuss anything with them.

Luck is being wished to you on this day Dan that is the 27 of December, a day which is directly before the day that is the 28 of December and directly after the day that is the 26 of December.

In easy words, good luck and godspeed. Or just light speed if you'd prefer? Or maybe the speed of sound?

But seriously, good luck putting up with trying to get people to listen to someone whose ideas you don't agree with. It can be a trial and a chore, but if it keeps bread on the table and shoes on the feet, it can be well worth it.

I'm clueless on this stuff. Does the fact that RL's segment is played on this station truly impact advertisers enough to make or break a deal?

And good luck, no matter what happens!

I'm assuming that you sell advertisements based on the targeting of specific demographics and the size of the audience. In which case, the only thing that matters for your prospective job is Rush Limbaugh's local audience size and makeup.

Just don't do such a great job that you win a trip to meet Rush in person or something like that.

Good luck!

I was going to make a tasteless offer to sell percocet to him, but.....

I think he would want more than I could provide.

You might should talk to Steven McIntosh of KNSS radio in Wichita. KNSS

His station plays Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, etc. etc.

But he is obviously very much of the opposite side. Once a day they air McIntosh's local "commentary" (The McIntosh Report) and it is almost always with a liberal lean - bashing the things conservatives hold dear.

I have often wondered, when listening to his 5-minute editorial, how he feels about working for a station that airs so much opposed to his own leanings. But he has been there for years.....

Whe I hear the radio, lots of times before a show airs, I hear a disclaimer. Something like:

KMOX is not responsible for the content of any radio host. The opinions and views expressed in this show does not reflect those of KMOX, its employees or advertisers. KMOX does not verify, endorse or otherwise vouch for the contents of any KMOX program.

Just cause it is on the station, doesn't mean that you endorse it. Take the job. And you can honestly tell the advertisers that you are not a big Rush fan, but that it is good business to advertise on his show, since the ratings are good and it will get word out about their product.

If I'm a local car dealer looking to sell my cars, I wouldn't care if the radios in those cars are tuned to Rush or to NPR -- as long as they moved off my lot.

Every job has a poison pill.

Take the job and just stick your fingers in your ears and hum really loud from 11 to 2.

It's money and you could figure out a way to sneak in subliminal liberal messages in or something so some lunky Rush fan goes, WTH? I just thought a LIBERAL THOUGHT! AUGH! [Eek!]

Yes, whenever I read/hear "I mean it!" I immediately think the peanut question. [Big Grin] It's nice to know I'm not the only one.

Good Luck Dan!
And remember they provide 21 hours a day of Limbaugh-free programming!
