As I do every year, I got a Barnes and Nobles gift card for Christmas. So I went out there and started looking around and finally end up browsing through the Gregory Maguire books.

Now I have autographed copies of Mirror, Mirror and Lost.

How? Well, I got me some connections.

(My friend, unbeknownst to me, works at B&N. They had signed copies behind the counter which they allow to trickle out into the store. She saw me browsing and pulled me over to get them).

Oh, and a friend of mine went to lunch with Al Franken just before Christmas and got me a signed copy of The Truth as a present. Never read Al Franken and don't much like the pundit type, but man, maybe I'll find some way to get a signed copy of Ender's Game next year.

So, what signed books do y'all have?

Ender's Game and Future on Ice.

*thinks* I'm not sure what else. But I have a signed picture of Boba Fett! Hardcore elite original trilogy Fett, not wussy prequel Fett.

I have one signed by Dave Pelzer, author of A Child Called It and a Soundgarden CD signed by the band that I won in a magazine contest. I almost got one from Bruce Campbell but the line was way too long.

I have Hart's Hope and Ender's Game signed--though Hart's Hope is probably my least favorite Card book(that or Saints.) It just happened to be the one I bought the day I went to the signing. Though I've had professors offer to sign copies of their books they've made me buy.

When I was a kid, I thought it was cool to have autographed stuff. So I autographed stuff. Like some old softball, I autographed "Babe Ruth", and my Mom's Penguin Classics "Romeo and Juliet" was autographed "William Shakespeer".

My sister had to read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry for school, and we have a few copies laying around. So she got one and was looking at it and she saw something was written in the front cover. I can't remember now what it says, but it was signed 'Lois Lowry'. My mom got it for 25 cents at a yardsale.

Also, "A Wrinkle In Time" - Madeleine L'Engle

I actually have several books signed by their authors. A few years ago a bunch of friends and I went to a Rock Bottom Remainders concert and the pre-show event, where we were able to meet the authors and get books signed. So I got autographs from Stephen King, Dave Barry, Mitch Albom, Amy Tan and Ridley Pearson, and then as a result of the concert (and being commandeered as Ridley's photographer), I ended up with a byline credit and autographed copy of an article by Scott Turow a year later.

I also have two books autographed by Maureen Daly from when she did some event at my high school (and for the life of me I can't remember what it was anymore, just that I was working in the library during my study hall so I was her assistant for a period).

[Smile]

I have a few things that are autographed. A puck signed by Sid Abel, A pic signed by Gordie Howe, and a pic signed by Ted Lindsay. I also have a few golf balls signed by Jim Furyk, Fuzzy Zoeller, and Al Kaline. (even though he is not a pro golfer) Oh, and the baseball signed by Al Kaline.

Wow, I didn't think I had that much. Their just things that I enjoyed from my past or things/places I've done or been. I'm still trying to get a signed ball from Alan Trammel and a puck from Steve Yzerman. For they are my heroes.

Bookwise, I have the signature series leather bounds of Louis L'Amour. Albeit, not really signed by him, but I don't care.

I have a copy of Misty of Chincoteague autographed by the author, the main charectar, and a really cool guy that thinks he's important. Also my race car (quarter midget) was signed by Tony Stewart one day before he was famous.

I stumbled across the tenth anniversary hardcover of Brian Jacques' Redwall, and it was signed (yes, REALLY signed, with a ballpoint pen). Weird, for something to just find in the local bookstore.

My copy of Horton Hatches the Egg reads:

"To Dr. Deane
from
Dr. Seuss

(Larry: If you read this carefully, you'll see that it is a parable relating to advertising. The bird is the client; the egg, the account. And the elephant is the agency. All other similarity to characters living or dead is purely coincidental. Ted)"

Julian Lowrie (Larry) Deane was my grandfather. He and Ted Geisel grew up together.

We have some other autographed books of his, but this one is the most personalized.
