I WILL catch up to you... and then surpass you. I have a case of Bawls to fuel me and the extreme durability that only a teenager can have. Beware. At the end, it will be I who reigns supreme.

And Beware, Hatrack. You thought you were done with the teenagers. But they are BACK to HAUNT you!!!

Let the War of Posts BEGIN!!!!

Mwahahahahaha! [Evil Laugh]

Where did you purchase the said case of Bawls?

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

CompUSA. It's the only place I can find it.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

So, they do have it at CompUSA? I'll need to make a trip to one of their locations. Where, in the store, do they carry it?

Dang quid! Now I want popcorn. Only one day and already this diet is killing me!

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Now the problem, Tinros, is that you have to come up with something interesting to say. Or, rather, several thousand interesting things to say. Tante averages about 25 posts a day, not taking into account that she dosen't post on Shabbos. If she stops posting entirely, which is unlikely, and you start posting at 25/day, it would take you 197 days to catch up with her. That's 6.5 months. If she keeps posting at her current rate, and you start posting at 50/day, you'd break even with her in 6.5 months.

Forgive me if I don't hold my breath.

Sweet Pickle Juice! Bawls is most possibly the best drink to hit the planet since Pepsi Blue. I have to get some. Do they sell it by bottle? Six pack? Twelve pack? Twenty-four pack? What? And is it in bottles? Because it is best in bottles.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

MeOW! Like I said, I'm a teenager. I can run on two hours of sleep. Adults, however, tend to need more than that. I have more hours in which to post. so THERE.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Twelve pack of bottles for $18.99, Steve.

And they sell Bawls mints. THey aren't mint flavored, they're caffeinated, Bawls-flavored, lightly carbonated CANDY.

Oh yeah.

By the way, Tinros. You can't have an infinite source of interesting things to say. I just out bid you on Ebay with one second left. So the source is mine!

(See, that was interesting...only in the interesting equals weird way. Now, group tentative,"Ok....")

Tante has posted 5177 times in 208 days. Meaning that she has posted about 24.889 times per day and about 1.037 times posts per hour! [Eek!] You have to beat that, Tinros.

[Edit: ... and she just made a few more posts... [Dont Know] ]

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

No, you only had one half of the source. I had two halves of the source. I burned a copy of it for you. But I only gave you half. So, you were actually auctioning something that I GAVE you. And it was only half of the source.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

No, I'm just being proud. And, by the way, there is no reason to discriminate because someone has less posts than you do. It 'tis rude and unnecessary.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I don't generally consider post count worth mentioning -- unless someone else brings it up. Then it's fair game.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Well, post count is generally considered basis for one's "noobiness," so to speak. And it is not very nice. And 'tis also not very nice to generalize and assume that someone, like myself, is a "noob," as it were, for trying to protect himself from a rude and unnecessary insult, the calling of the "noob."

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

1) Post count and newbieness are sometimes related, but not always. We have oldbies with low counts, and newbies with high counts.

2) Calling someone a newbie is hardly a reflection on anything but their newness -- hardly an insult of any type.

3) When a thread's very basis is postcount, I consider all comments about postcount to be quite on topic.

Posted by Rappin' Ronnie Reagan (Member # 5626) on :

I can't hold it in any longer. 'Tis means "it is" and only "it is".

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

I see your logic. And I see my logic. And I see both sides. And I appreciate both sides. I'm quick to be tempered. I hope you shall not hold it against me if I ask for forgiveness of my ignorance.

Edit: I apologize. I'm young and care not for the rules of grammar as they are commonly accepted.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

The problem you're running into, Steve, is that "acting like a newbie" and "acting like a teenager" sometimes look a lot alike. There's nothing wrong with acting like a teenager. Particularly when you are one. But in this case, it makes you fair game for anyone who's been here longer than you. As rivka undoubtedly has.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

This sort of thing wouldn't happen if postcounts weren't displayed -- which is how it used to be, back in the good old days. The Golden Age of Hatrack, when we used to have to walk ten miles in the snow, uphill both ways, just to make a single post...

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Pfft. You're Canadian. Don't you have to walk through the snow to make a single post now?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Yes, but only uphill one way, and only ten kilometres, not ten miles.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Tom, as much as I agree with you...I much rather have this than most the topics we've had during election season till now. I agree that post count means almost nothing. Almost. When it is someone like Moose, or rivka, or you (and I'm sure there are more but to make the point) it is a bit different. However, that is only because it correlates with your time on the message board. That and because out of the three I mentioned I have met two of.

Wow, this is probably the only time I have ever completely agreed with you Tom. I like that. I usually don't respond against your political beliefs because I have a strict belief to let people believe what they want. No matter how much it rankles me.

So*, in conclusion...post all you want. it won't really do anything for you. You first have to have something worth reading if you are going to post that much in a day. Hope you are up to date on the news, because it's going to take a little research to be able to hold your own on most of the topics on this board these days.

If that's all that's stopping you from posting in non-fluff threads, go ahead. Seriously, I doubt that your posts are going to prevent me (or anyone else here) from believing what I want to believe, and the way you worded your concern didn't mention anything about just elucidating what you believe. So do so, unless your actual code is something like "don't argue with people." [Smile] A lot of the acrimony occasionally perceived there is just that: perceived. With very few exceptions (and they're usually pretty obvious exceptions, and tend to stick out like sore thumbs), participants in even the most heated political debates here don't actually dislike each other.

You see, Stan, it really does do something for me. I'm going to bring down the fun for a moment. I don't post too much because I have this weird competitive urge to outpost the other Hatrackers. I mean, I keep looking at my post count with a bit of shock, shaking my head at myself and wondering what is going on here.

My real life is one of daily sacrifice. I sacrifice my needs and my desires in order to serve other people's needs. It is an around-the-clock commitment that involves full-time work as a nurse in the day, and taking care of my family, including a severely disabled husband, when I'm not at work. Fun, carefree "me time" is rare indeed for me.

In addition, I have my own health problems -- lupus -- that makes me feel lousy almost all the time. Imagine having pain in your joints all the time, fatigue all the time, fevers, sores in your mouth, and an inability to enjoy any sunlight -- even a window with the curtains parted. Crummy, eh?

So, I could piss and moan and kvetch and make myself and everyone around me miserable. I could abandon my current situation and seek something a little more fun. I could insist that I need to spend my days in bed, having other people take care of me. But I've gone a different route. I do what I need to do cheerfully, with a good attitude, and I derive satisfaction from helping other people. For me, some time out with just friends, going out to a movie, or even just some time alone is a rare and treasured thing, that requires a remarkable amount of planning to pull off.

I love being on Hatrack. I love getting to know people just for fun -- not because they need something from me. I love being able to cut loose and have my own fun, and not worry that I'm not giving enough. When I log on, I am fully engaged, immersed in the experience. I drink it in great gulps, as if I've just hiked across a desert with a dry a canteen and have stumbled upon a fertile oasis.

I post a lot. I am addicted. But you know, it fills a void, it is safe, it does not take me from my real responsibilities, and, gosh darn it, it just feels so good.

Posting on Hatrack really doesn't do anything for me? Au contraire, it replenishes me.

And I am grateful to all of Hatrack, and especially our host, for giving me that.

--Esther

Tante, I don't think that line in Stan's post was directed at you. I think it was directed at the people who are planning on posting more purely for the sake of trying to catch you. You post when you have something to say. That happens to be a lot. [Wink] That's entirely different from posting just to inflate your post count.

It's like if I went and made 1000 posts in the Last Post thread this morning because you're less than 100 posts behind me now. Sure, I would have upped my postcount. But it wouldn't have really done anything for me. And who would read those posts? I'd be shouting to the air.

Hatrack does a lot of things for a lot of people. [Smile] I'm pretty sure Stan wasn't trying to say otherwise.

Who cares....about post count, that is. [Big Grin]

While it can be fun to poke fun at Tante and some others about their high post counts I don't know anyone I respect here who would consider that to be an accurate measure of how much someone has contributed to the community. At least not in and of itself.

I didn't post a lot the first three years I was here because I didn't have a computer. The times I did post were posting from public computers, or at my parents house in RI. My post count was slim, to say the least...but I still loved coming here, although I was at times taken for a noob because of my post count. No one was ever rude to me (once they finally realized I wasn't otaku, anyway) even if they mistakenly thought I was new, and once they looked at my registration date they usually realized their mistake. [Big Grin]

I have not even make a Landmark, although I have a decent count now. I feel that in a way my everyday posts are as much of a landmark of who I am and what I believe as any specific "Landmark" thread could be, at least in some ways. I love Landmark threads, don't get me wrong, but I saved a place for one at 5000....then realized that I didn't really want to write one yet. [Big Grin]

Being a noob doesn't mean your opinions don't matter, or that your are stupid or ignorant, it just means that we don't really know you well yet. It is also a matter of posting style sometimes, because more than a few people here stopped being noobs within months of joining. Some never really felt like noobs at all, to be honest.

And my "list" of who is and isn't a noob (not that I really have one, or really care one way or another) would differ from other peoples list, I am sure. [Big Grin]

I think that if you post you should be adding something to the conversation. Post whores don't.

Almost the definition of ironic, huh?

Heh, that is rather funny.

I missed out on most of page two and page three!

Me too, but I'm definitely getting "caffeinated" vibe from some of the posts!

Actually, the case of Bawls is still sitting in my car, so if anyone's caffeinated, it's not me. AoD, however... I worry sometimes.

Waaaaah! I don't mean to make you cry, Tinros! [Cry] I'm sorry! [Cry] I just miss chocolate.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

So do I, come to think of it. I haven't had real chocolate in a while, and I had to watch my sister buy like ten bars of really expensive chocolate, one for each of her friends. Err.

S'all good.

All I miss right now, is chicken soup. I'm sick.

Not making fun of, merely remembering what it was like to be a teenager. With perhaps a bit more perception from this side of it. And some making fun of- Oh, drat. [Big Grin]

The only people on Hatrack that I make fun of are family.

Seeing that you have 1324 posts and Tante has 9630. I hate to say it dude, but you lost.

Wow. I was just reading through this without noticing it was from 2006, until I came to my own post and became very, very confused. [Blushing]

The date tricked me because I was scanning backwards to find where the new posts started, and the old posts end on January 2, 2006, which I totally missed until I got to the top of this page.

Sorry I was bored and thought about back in the archives. I was reading this and realized we now have a clear winner.

I actually remembered this thread when it first showed up once I reread.

Hatrack archive diving is fun! (Someone should make a game out of that)

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Someone did.

I'm sure the thread is still around somewhere.

Just say "No" to Thread Necromancy.

So, did I win?

If so, what did I win?

I should hope you won that matching gauntlet you were pining after.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

9248 posts, and our undying attention....

...Oh LOOK! A Butterfly!!!

:::wanders off:::

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Haha. Here, Tante, have the other gauntlet. *gives*

I resign. I just don't check this site that much anymore... well, I don't post much anymore, because I don't really have too much to say. That, and the three months I was unable to check the site because of that weird mixup with my password... *sigh*

You win.

::dons gauntlets::

Ooh! Shiny!

::rubs knuckle under tickly nose::

Ooh! Scratchy!

Well Tinros if Tante has only been here for 29 months. Then she makes about 11.09 posts a day (much less than she used to)

If you post 50 times a day for the next 166 days you'll be caught up to where she is now. Another 40 days after that and you would have beaten her.

(Or if your goals are really high- try and beat kq)
