This is a silly game. The point is to figure out the rule and just post according to it. Don't blow it by saying the rule. You could cheat and Google the name of the game but who on Hatrack would cheat like that?

Tinros and Tante, this could be a good place to continue your post war. [Smile]

Behind the green glass door you might find moonbeams but not sunshine.

You could eat sweet relish behind the green glass door, but not pickles.

George Clooney could be on the other side of the door but not Vin Diesel.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

So, Bill Murray could go through the door. But not The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.

Posted by sarcare (Member # 8736) on :

I could be cool but not hot, beyond the Green Glass Door?

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

Yes! My friends play the naughty version of this game so I will have to behave myself here.

You could be a n00b but not a newbie.

Chilly but not shivering.
Silly but not serious.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

I could listen to 3 Doors Down but not The Artist Formerly Known as Prince beyond the Green Glass Door.

Edit: We've played this game before. It took me awhile to figure it out. But I did.

I could read Harry Potter books but not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Posted by martha (Member # 141) on :

There are spoons but no forks or knives behind the green glass door.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Perry White and Jimmy Olsen, but neither Clark Kent nor Lois Lane.

Posted by King of Men (Member # 6684) on :

Apples, but not oranges.
Buddhism, but not atheism.
Sonnets, but not haikus.

We've played it before. [Smile]

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

I could eat Macaroni & Cheese but not Bagels beyond this Green Glass Door.

Posted by sarcare (Member # 8736) on :

We used to play games like this--ie I'm going on a trip to Siam, I can take a suitcase but no bags--but we did them in person, sitting in a big circle.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

I searched before posting.

I'm sorry but I don't apologize.

You can watch toons, but you can't listen to tunes.

Beyond the Green Glass Door there are running happy rabbits, but no hares.

How do we know who is wrong?

The ones in the know object. Nobody has failed yet.

I can read Scott Card books, but not science fiction?...

Posted by Uprooted (Member # 8353) on :

You can wear fleece or wool but no down jackets behind the green glass doors.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

Human, exactly! You can read Scott Card but not science fiction. You can also read horror but not Stephen King.

Posted by Vasslia Cora (Member # 7981) on :

Ok, so you can fall but not trip?

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

yes, and you can be uprooted but not buried.

You can cook cookies but bake a cake.

Yes, and you can also be uprooted but never transplanted, or interred but not buried or cremated.

Posted by genius00345 (Member # 8206) on :

This game is cool, but not interesting.

I could be a bookkeeper or accountant, but not a manager or a waiter behind this green glass door.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

This game is more fun to play with my friend Jennifer than with my dad.

Posted by Vasslia Cora (Member # 7981) on :

Wait, so we could watch Joss Whedon but not Firefly or Serenity behind the green glass doors.?!?

Posted by JennaDean (Member # 8816) on :

Ah, but I love to play it with MY daddy.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I started this game here some time last year-- only I know it as the Green Glass Room. [Smile]

I giggle giddily beyond the Green Glass Door while hopping happily.

Posted by human_2.0 (Member # 6006) on :

I can barely keep from giving it away behind the Green Glass Door

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

I can see peddlers but not peasants behind the Green Glass Door.

Posted by Vasslia Cora (Member # 7981) on :

We can have a ball but not a shindig.

Posted by Altáriël of Dorthonion (Member # 6473) on :

I can listen to Rammstein but not Dir en Grey; behind the Green Glass Door.

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

We've played this too! It seems like everyone gets it. [Smile]

How do we introduce a new rule and keep them straight? Maybe we pick something new that it's beyond, on, into, beneath, or other preposition?

Into the Aquamarine Cave I can take a shoe but not a hat, a glove but not a handkerchief, a magazine but no books.

Posted by Vasslia Cora (Member # 7981) on :

Oh, just as I understand the other rule, just my luck [Roll Eyes]

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

Vasslia Cora, this one is very simple! Do you need more examples?

Into the Aquamarine Cave I can take a bottle but not a can, Coke but not Pepsi, a candle but not a flashlight, a timepiece but not a watch, a mouse but not a rat, blue but not green, purple but not gold, sunshine but not clouds, daytime but not the night.

Posted by Uprooted (Member # 8353) on :

For music, can I take a cassette tape but no records or CDs into the Aquamarine Cave?

Posted by Vasslia Cora (Member # 7981) on :

I got it now [Smile]

I can take a picture but not a photo into the Aquamarine Cave

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

Yes! You both have it! [Smile]

Posted by Tante Shvester (Member # 8202) on :

Behind the green glass door, I can wear lipgloss but not lipstick, dresses, but not skirts.

And my sweetie carries a jackknife, but by honey does not have a switchblade.

However, in the Aquamarine Cave, I have a purse, but no handbag, I act nice, but not kind, and I love to wear mauve, beige or taupe, but not green black or yellow.

Posted by sarcare (Member # 8736) on :

And in the Aquamarine Cave I can study Europe but not England?

Posted by Vasslia Cora (Member # 7981) on :

In the Aquarmarine Cave, I can giggle but not laugh and I can behind the green glass door in the fissure, I can play skee ball but not bowl.

Posted by Sterling (Member # 8096) on :

I can go en pointe in the Aquamarine cave, but beyond the Green Glass Door it's moot.

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Beyond the Green Glass Door I can poop and pee, but I can't eat or drink [Frown] .

In the Aquamarine cave, there is purpose, but no goal. You can give and recieve, but never return. Things change, but they aren't dynamic.

Can I make one? How about the Orange hockey locker?

Where things can be purple, orange, or yellow, but not red, blue, green, brown, black, or white.

You can drink brandy or scotch, but no rum, vodka, or gin.

There's plenty of oxygen, carbon, sulfur, silver, and iodine, but no nitrogen, helium, silicone, gold, or alluminum...

Edit: Thanks! *brainfart*

Xaxier one of your Aquamarine Cave onse doesn't work.

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

In the Orange Hockey Locker, there can be Dornicks, but no Gaals. There can be TVs, but no screens. There can be Hatrack, but no Card. And Science, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim can all coexist togethor [Smile] . Did I get it right?

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

So if I got it right, beyond this Green Glass Door I can feel but not touch?

...sleep but not nap, nor rest?

Edit: Didn't look at the rest of the thread. Serves me right. [Big Grin]

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

GaalDornick, that wasn't what I was going for, but perhaps I should try and figure out what other scheme worked from my examples [Smile] .

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

Hmmm, I was thinking it had to be two syllables. It works that way too, I think.
Edit: the vodka doesn't work, but everything else fits in with the two syllables only. Is that a coincidence, or does it relate to your method?

Posted by dantesparadigm (Member # 8756) on :

In the Orange Hockey Locker there are cattle but no cows, a monkey, but no gorillas, and Ronald Wilson Reagan is most welcome.

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Isn't scotch one syllable?

Edit 1: dante has it, of course [Smile] .

Edit 2: More examples... Bigamy, but no polygamy. Albany, but not Buffalo.

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

Yeah, ok I had it wrong. Now I can't think of any other ways. Dantes examples also work with 2 syllables. [Wall Bash]

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Choose, select, decide, settle, or refuse, but don't decline...

There's a crease, but no fold.

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

Oooh the funnest is when you don't get it yet. [Smile] I'm still puzzling out the orange hockey locker.

Unless I am much mistaken, you mean 'cows but no cattle', don't you?

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

Somebody tell me the answer to that one already! [Wall Bash]

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

I'll put all the "acceptable" words together for you guys.
code:
hockey
locker
purple
orange
yellow
brandy
scotch
oxygen
carbon
sulfur
silver
iodine
cattle
monkey
ronald
wilson
reagan
bigamy
albany
choose
select
decide
settle
refuse
crease

Am I crazy or is this painfully obvious [Dont Know] ?

I can talk to Willy Wonka, but not Charlie Bucket beyond the Green Glass Door.

(I like the original rules better, so I will continue to play that way.)

huh?

Xav, it is NOW! *laugh*

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

No it is cattle but no cows in the hockey locker and the green glass door for that matter.

It wasn't obvious to me, Xavier, until you posted like that. Nice one! I can store my movies in my orange hockey locker but not my computer games.

OK here is a hard one...
Through the Looking Glass, I can read a clock but I don't see numbers; I can eat bread but not cake; I can wear blue, brown, black or green but not yellow, red, or orange.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

Better rivka?

In the Looking Glass, one can eat grapes and plums but not peaches, apples, or bananas.

I have lots of friends there but no family.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Gotcha. [Smile]

Ok. Through the Looking Glass I can post in fluffy threads, but not serious ones. Smilies are ok, but puns are not.

Days can be bright or cloudy, but not sunny or rainy.

[Big Grin]

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

[ROFL] It's always obvious when you get it!

In the Orange Hockey Locker I can bring my kitten but not my cat, a locket but not a frame, the adding engine but not the calculator. [Smile]

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

Ok, I get the Orange Hockey one now. It explains why most of them were 2 syllables.

Posted by CRash (Member # 7754) on :

I'm still working on the Looking Glass, but it's very clear that I can giggle but not laugh in the Orange Hockey Locker.

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

Just to make sure I do understand the OHL: I can be stupid and obtuse, but I can't be perceptive or sharp. I can take months figuring out the OHL, but not weeks or days.

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

I think I figured out the looking glass. I can run track but I can't play basketball. I can wear shorts, but not pants. I can be broke, but not bankrupt. Am I right?

Posted by Friday (Member # 8998) on :

Through the looking glass the days are short, not long, it's not cold, just a bit chilly. Neither windy nor hot, it is rather pleasant through the looking glass. Through the looking glass life is not good, it's great!

Posted by JennaDean (Member # 8816) on :

By George, I think I've got it! Through the looking glass I can wear a sweater when it's chilly, but not a jacket if it's windy. (Which it never is.) Yes?

ETA: I guess it could be breezy though....

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

It is chilly but not windy. But the sweater is out, jacket too. However, you could wear a shell, swallowtail, posteen, or juppon to keep snuggly. Earmuffs, too.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

And yes, we get breezes.

Posted by JennaDean (Member # 8816) on :

What? Wait. I thought those things (shell, swallowtail et. al.) were all behind the Green Glass Door - but through the Looking Glass?

I'm getting really confused. [Confused] (Which, if I understand correctly, is not allowed behind the green glass door, in the orange hockey locker, OR through the looking glass.)

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

LOL! I was afraid that we might confuse all our rules.

Explination:
It is chilly but not windy (both in the looking glass and behind the green glass door). But the sweater is out, jacket too (the jacket would be in for the locker and the sweater would be in for the looking glass but they would both be out for the green glass door). However, you could wear a shell (LG only), swallowtail (LG only), posteen, or juppon (OHL only) to keep snuggly (LG only but these all work for the green glass door). Earmuffs, too (ditto).

Thus KQ was posting using the GGD rules. (Did I use 'thus' correctly there?)

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

Jenna, you could be befuddled behind the green glass door, stumped in the looking glass and addled in the orange hockey locker.

Posted by MidnightBlue (Member # 6146) on :

I completely don't get the looking glass. I guess I'll just have to keep reading what people have posted.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

Actually you could glance or stare at the looking glass but you can't look or gaze at it.

You can not have hope or faith but you can be charitable.

Posted by JennaDean (Member # 8816) on :

MidnightBlue, don't read what we've posted about the Looking Glass; try skimming it instead. Or browsing it. But definitely don't read it.

It is definitely a difficult one. No, I mean a hard one. No, I mean a challenging one.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

LOL Jenna.

On this page, CRash, SteveRogers and Friday can be seen in the looking glass but not me, Jenna, KetchupQueen, Gaal, Dante, Xavier, Tatiana, King of Men, SarcasticP, Rivka, or MidnightBlue.

Through the Looking Glass you can’t see Wonderland, but you can see the Cheshire Cat.

Posted by Will B (Member # 7931) on :

I could play "Behind the Green Glass Door," but not "Begging the Question."

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

In which one?

And can someone confirm if I've gotten the Looking Glass and Orange Hockey Locker right?

"I think I figured out the looking glass. I can run track but I can't play basketball. I can wear shorts, but not pants. I can be broke, but not bankrupt. Am I right?"

"Just to make sure I do understand the OHL: I can be stupid and obtuse, but I can't be perceptive or sharp. I can take months figuring out the OHL, but not weeks or days."

Posted by JennaDean (Member # 8816) on :

They both sound right to me, but the teacher hasn't told me if I'M right yet.

Posted by MandyM (Member # 8375) on :

Everyone posting has been right so far (yea!) but WillB's post confuses me. Which rule are you using? If it is GGD, you are right but for all the others, you're wrong.
