My question is when is this novel even coming out?! I tried to look it up on Amazon or B&N, and I found several books on the forthcoming book, but no actual book, or indication of release date.

The article linked above says it'll be late 2006, or early 2007... Who knows for sure though.

We were discussing this over on Nauvoo, but it became a discussion of Dan Brown in general. There is lots of scholarship on Mormons and Masons.

Joseph Smith was or may have been a Mason? Interesting, I didn't know that...

Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor, and many of the other early Church leaders were Masons, as were a lot of judges, politicians, lawyers, newspaper editors, and other prominent men in the 1800s.

I knew lots of prominent men were in it, just hadn't heard the Mormon connection before.

I can recommend this book, The Secret Architecture of Our Nation's Capital: The Masons and the Building of Washington, D.C. IF you have a serious interest in Masons and/or American history. It's a well-researched and exhaustive account of Masonic influence on DC and it's founding and buildings. I read about 1/2 before losing interest, then skimmed the rest. It has great photos. Before reading it, I hadn't realized the Masons were so into astrology.

Given that people are speculating the new book by Brown might be about Masons and set in DC, it might be worth a look, though I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you have a serious interest in the subject. My local library had a copy.

Of course those of you familiar with my posts know I already pointed out the similarity betweeen the Mormons and the Cathers and the link through the Masons to the Teplars to the Cathers.

I wonder if I can get Dan Brown to give me credit?

Somehow I think he'll more likely credit one or more of the many scholars who've written about Mormon/Mason links over the past 150 years.

But I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. [Smile]

Considering Davinci Code has not even come out in paperback yet, it might be a little while.

However, if we can expect the same gross inaccuracies we learned to love in The Da Vinci Code . . .

. . . Mormons will not be suprised.

Everyone hates us and misunderstands us. That's why we eat babies. . . erm, worms.

Hm. What recipes for baby do Mormons normally use? I mean, I hear y'all have some wicked potlucks.

I believe Tertullian published a cookbook.

Oooh, fancy. Any special spices non-Mormons don't know about?

Same thing about the Mason's.

Except the eating babies part. [Wink]

Masons only dine on toddlers.

Posted by Uprooted (Member # 8353) on :

They preserve them in Mason jars.

I hadn't realized Willa's family was that closely related to the LDS church.

Willa's? You know some Cathers? Where from? I know a family of them in Illinois.

Everytime I see that title, the song “My Sherona” starts playing in my head. Now it’s in yours, too.

A bit off topic but am I the only one who in addition to thinking that the big deal "revelation" in "DaVinci Code" was nothing new, also thought that the protagonists were really stupid?

I thought his next book was going to be The Michelangelo Code, in which he uncovers the secret hidden in Michelangelo's painting "Dogs Playing Poker".
