and Jenni and I might be going. It will be the newest ride at Disney when it opens later this spring, and they are filming the commercial for it and need people to advance screen for it, so Jenni and I might be going this week.

Sounds pretty cool! [Big Grin]

If we go I will let you know how it was. [Big Grin]

Yeah....Jenni is checking out the info today to see if the sneak peak is avalible Monday as well, as I have to work this weekend.

She might go after work tommorow, before 5.

[Big Grin]

Who is Pat Poyfair?

I think we are booked, but I wil ask Jenni, I guess....but I really don't know who that is, offhand...

A question for the ages. [Big Grin]

He's the Burninator. The founder of Mafia on Hatrack. And has one heck of a nice head squishing photo with OSC.

And hey, congrats on the advance tix to Everest. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

Ok, they have finished the filming for the commercials, however the cast preview does continue through Monday. I can get 3 other people in with me... with Kwea, that leaves 2 other people. I read that Pat Poyfair (spelling?) wanted to know about getting his family in.... how many is that? since I can only bring 2 other people in with me and Kwea? I have checked with the friends that I wanted to bring but they are both working [Grumble] , so I am amenable to taking 2 other people with us..... and Hatrackers are cool people [Big Grin] (not sucking up here) so I think it would be neat to meet more of them.

Yes Icarus it is at DAK! Kwea can be kinda clueless about these things since he's not a Disney Freak like me!

Say, I don't know if you guys have any interest at all in seeing Wicked,

(when I asked if you all were interested in making an outing out of it, Kwea sputtered that it was like $200 a ticket, and even when I explained that it was not, I got the sense that you all have already decided you don't like it and aren't interested, despite not having seen it [Grumble] )

but if you are interested in seeing the touring production, they have instituted a lottery, just like the Broadway show. You show up two and a half hours before showtime, and if you get picked, they'll sell you up to two orchestra seats at $25 a pop. Cor and I are thinking of heading over there (with the girls) on Sunday. If we manage to score not one but two pairs, great. If we don't get tickets, we'll just play around in Tampa. Do you guys wanna come too? If we only get one pair instead of two (and if you don't win any) we could let you grab ours.

Believe it or not, I would love to. If I had been able to commit to buying tickets last time I would have....

But I am working all day Sunday, as is Jenni. [Frown]

Well, you guys can also go whenever you're able to, since there are eight shows a week. We might possibly go on a weeknight ourselves, and, like I said, if we don't get tickets, just have dinner or something. (Except we won't be able to plan ahead on a weeknight; because of school we would pretty much have to play it by ear.) So if you really want to see it, I would recommend giving the lottery a shot.

(JenniK posting as Kwea because, as usual, I am too darned lazy to change user name!)

Icarus, I am very interested in seeing Wicked, unfortunately I have to work most weekdays and, like you guys, have to be up at the "butt-crack 'o dawn" to be at work so early in the morning. Thank you so much for the info. If possible, Kwea and I will try to catch it. I'm really glad that you let us know about it.
Kwea and I will be going to DAK on Monday for the cast preview of Expedition Everest; Legend of the Forbidden Mountain! I can't wait!!!! If you 2 wanna play hooky and join us....????I know you get your preview in about another week, but I thought I would throw that offer out there. Enjoy Tampa if you make it out there, and I wish you "broken legs" (theatre superstitions talking) so that you may get 4 tickets so that all of you can go see the show! A very happy National Hug Day to all!! Have you hugged someone today?

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Indeed I have. [Smile]

(I wish I could play hookey, but I'm a little tight on sick days, and I'm trying to not take any until at least February. We did pick up a couple of free Universal Orlando tickets today, though, and some vouchers for 25% off tickets as well, so look for us to suggest a Universal outing before too long--possibly on a weekday.)

I have the pass, and Jenni will have one as soon as we go there to buy it. [Big Grin]

Let us know. [Big Grin]

(JenniK again posting as Kwea. One of these days I'll get the motivation to change the user name!)

That sounds cool. Kwea and I have Mondays and Tuesdays off, so if that is something you are thinking about, it sounds good to me.

We will be meeting one of my International College Program friends tomorrow morning since she is planning to go ride Everest at the same time. Her name is Cristina and she is from Peru, and she is a real sweetheart! One of Kwea's friends may be coming along as well if he is not working.
Tuesday night at about 8 o'clock, some of the ICP's (International College Program) people from Brazil and some others from the Soarin' cast will be returning to a Brazilian (if they saw me spell it that way they would yell at me - to them it is Brasil) restaurant on International Drive (all the way out near Kirkman Road) called Vittorio's if anyone is interested in an all you can eat and drink (soda) for $10.00 a person, it;s pretty cool and they also have this awesome drink that I can't pronounce! It's a unique atmosphere and you get to yell and snap your fingers at the waiters...and they don't think it's rude! Anyway, I loved it the first time I went, and I can't wait to go back , but this time Kwea has to come too (so he can drive on the way home since I plan on having at least one of those awesome drinks!) Anyway, if anyone is interested in that it'll be about 8pm so let us know. A very merry Un-birthday to everyone not celebrating one today! - JenniK

Is that a hint that it's your birthday? [Big Grin]

-o-

Sadly, there is just no way that the girls can survive a dinner that late, and I've already burned my babysitting for the week.

-o-

We were able to get in to see Wicked on Sunday. Really good for a traveling show! Some of the most intricate staging I've ever seen for a touring production, and rather good talent. This is late in the tour's run (it's the 2005 tour, if that's an indication) and Morrible and Glenda both seem to be struggling vocally. I really don't like the way they're playing Glenda at all, but that's my only complaint. It ain't the broadway show, but it's a rather good facsimile. [Smile] If you guys are able and interested in coming the weekend we're returning (2/5), I'd say it's virtually a lock we could get you in through the lottery: with the five of us plus the two of you all trying, how could we not win?

We had a blast today....EE is a very good coaster ride! [Big Grin]

And Jenni's Birthday is not until 11 days after mine.....

[Wink]

Is EE a roller coaster comparable to Hulk or Kraken?

Let me know when you want to do Universal. Kristine's pass runs out soon and she probably won't renew, but mine is still good through August or Sept. Mardi Gras is coming up in Feb. and March and is pretty good. I think they only do it on weekends, but there's no extra charge for it like there is for HHN.

I think we're going with passes at SeaWorld next. We're going to get Disney passes someday, but for that steep price, I'd rather wait til Ryan can appreciate a lot of it. Besides, I haven't gotten to ride Kraken in a while.

i don't understand how the Elphaba could still be in good voice but the MORRIBLE not be?! Morrible has like, six lines to sing in two songs!

*marvels*

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Because Morrible is always cast as someone in her fifties or sixties. The Morrible when I saw it on Broadway was struggling too (Rue McLanehan (sp?). Actually, the Morrible from the touring production is the lady who originated the role and is on the CD). You might have a good voice at that age, but I think maybe it just can't handle eight shows a week for a year plus. Plus, some of Morrible's lines and singing are done in a harsh voice (remember, she has more than just what's on the cast recording). In particular when Glenda is horrified at the witch hunters near the end of the show, and Morrible is basically telling her that she has benefitted from all of this, so she has no business developing scruples now.

I would say it isn't as good as the Hulk, although it is really close. [Big Grin]

It is the second fastest ride in Disney.

It was one of the better coasters I have ridden in a while, though. [Big Grin]

Is Rockin Roller Coaster the fastest at Disney?

Kraken's not quite as fast as the Hulk, but the first drop is great. You're sitting in a "chair" mounted on a pedastal. If you're in the front row, you really get the feeling of hanging out over the edge. Of course, I was involved in the design of that one, so I'm partial.

BTW, did I miss the thread where your final job decision was revealed?

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Test Track: 65 mph

California Screamin': 59 mph (At Disneyland, not Disney World.)

Rockin' Roller Coaster: 57 mph

Expedition Everest:55 mph (It may be the second fastest in initial acceleration, though, since Test Track takes forever before it speeds up.)

the monorail: 40 mph

Space Mountain: 28 mph

We're in line now! [Big Grin]

That was [Cool] .

Not the most thrilling ride eva, but a nice addition to DAK. Think of what Big Thunder would be like if they were designing it today, instead of thirty years ago. It does not have a quick launch, but it does have about the smoothest chain drive I've ever seen. (So maybe it's the second fastest roller coaster at WDW?)

The room with the yeti in it was really cool!

I only waited about a half hour, but, through a weird bit of happenstance, we also have fastpasses to do it again in fifteen minutes! [Big Grin]
