Still interested in a $100 PS2?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

*twitch*

I'd say I was if she isn't, but then I'd have to buy a TV, too.

Heck, I know my husband would be. [Razz]

TVs are cheap, you know.

I was thinking that, yes.

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

And we have a small TV that is just sitting in our garage.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

And you're trying to get rid of stuff before moving. But even small TVs are big to ship, and I'm not going to be in your part of the world until probably May. And Megan has dibs, anyway.

*smile*

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

And yet it does play videotapes anyway, and we will be driving through MN sooner or later.

It was great for watching videos, and it can be hooked up to a DVD player. I'm just sayin.'

Posted by KarlEd (Member # 571) on :

and a PS2 IS a DVD player. [Wink]

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Yes! Is there one available? [Big Grin]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

There is indeed! I'm selling the one I just got, as I've got a coworker who is willing to sell me his, along with a mammoth collection of games, hardware, and whathaveyou.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Oh, spiffy! Ok.

Email or PM me with details of how you'd like to handle it. [Smile]

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

FYI, I'm leaving for the evening, so I'll get back to you tomorrow morning. [Smile]

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Wow. Ok.

My husband just came home...and he bought me a PS2. As a surprise. [Big Grin]

So...ElJay has dibs next, then? [Big Grin]

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

that's awesome!

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Yep, ElJay is next in line. My co-worker is checking out his system to make sure it still works. Assuming that it does, are you still interested, ElJay?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

You've used the one you bought, and it works fine, yes?

Heck, I'm interested. I want to play Katamari. [Smile] Lemme know when you know for sure if you're getting the other one.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Yep, the one I've got works perfectly. Assuming that the other one works too, what I'll be shipping you will be:
1 PS2
1 Controller
1 Thingy. I think that this is probably an infrared receiver for a remote contoller, but I'm not utterly sure.
2 Memory cards. I assume that they're both for the PS2. They both fit into the slots for memory cards, anyway. One of them is unlabeled though, so I'm not utterly sure.
5 games:
Medal of Honor Underground
Medal of Honor Frontline
SOCOM II: US Navy Seals
Knockout Kings 2002
Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat
1 Disc labeled DVD Player

If one of the games my coworker has is We Love Katamari, I'll throw in the copy of that that I bought yesterday as well.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Well, I am glad it has a thingie. I was really concerned about that! [Smile]

My zip code is 55406, if you want to check shipping costs. That way I can drop a check in the mail when you find out about the other one.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

[Smile] It's definitely a top-notch thingie, too.

I'll see about shipping. Assuming that my coworker remembers to test out his system (and really, why wouldn't it be working? It's not like he's been storing it in a bucket of mud or something), I should be able to ship you mine on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Nifty-keen.

I do actually have a TV in my basement, I think. If it works. It's a 13" one that hasn't been turned on in at least four years, but it also hasn't been sitting in a bucket of mud. It should at least let me play a little and see if I'm going to play enough to make picking up a bigger one from craig's list or something worthwhile.

Incidentally, I can't imagine I would ever play any of the army games. If any of them interest you, feel free to keep them.

Yeah, they don't hold much appeal to me either. If you don't want them I suppose I'll just trade them in or something.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Eh, if you're not interested, send them along. . . who knows, I might discover a bloodthirsty side I never knew I had. Or maybe Enig will be interested.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Sounds good. If nothing else you can trade them in toward something you'd like better. Probably only get 50 cents apiece for them, but what can you do?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Buy a cup of coffee?

[Wink]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

[Smile] This is true.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Or hey, maybe your mystery boyfriend would be interested in them. I hear he has a PS2.

ElJay is dating someone?

Nope, just an occasional skirt.

He's Scottish?

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

Guess it depends on what he wears under the skirt.

Anyone got a length of blue ribbon?

Hey, ElJay, didja ever get that envelope I sent ya? My account doesn't reflect that it's been used.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

*blush* Boon, yes, I did, and I just came across it over the weekend and realized I hadn't cashed it. It came at a busy time and got set aside. I'm sorry if it screwed up your accounting. . . I'll put it int he bank this week. [Smile]

Well, now, that's just silly. If we were related, why would we waste time chatting on an Internet forum?

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

ElJay, my coworker didn't try out the system over the weekend, and forgot to bring it in today. He says he'll remember it tomorrow, so I'm going to shoot for getting yours in the mail on Thursday (assuming his system works). It occurs to me that I don't have your address, though.

By the way, I tried the unmarked memory card, and while it fits in the slot, but machine doesn't recognize it. Maybe it's for a PS1 or something? No idea.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Cool, Noemon. [Smile] I'll email you my address. I need yours, too, to send a check!

PS1 memory cards are supposed to work on PS2s. *shrug* Dunno.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Hey Jake, did your coworker bring the system in today? There's a decent looking TV on Craig's list I think I'm going to offer for if I'm going to be getting the system. [Smile] No biggie if not, I'm sure there will be more.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

He's late coming in because of the weather today.

Honestly, though, I think I'm being a bit silly with the whole "wait to see if his is working" thing. Go ahead and get the TV; I'll be selling you my system, period. I'm sure my coworker's system will be fine.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

PS1 memory cards work on PS2s for PS1 game saves (you can play PS1 games on PS2s). They don't work for PS2 game saves.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I don't think you're being silly, I think you're being prudent. But I will go ahead and make an offer on the TV, 'cause I seem to have my heart set on a game system now, so even if this doesn't work out I suspect I'll end up picking one up somewhere. [Big Grin]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

So, he got here, but he didn't bring the system. "Maybe tomorrow", he says. [Grumble]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

What a dip. Doesn't he know there's katamari to be played? [Wink]

Posted by El JT de Spang (Member # 7742) on :

Sounds like he's having second thoughts.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

(How silly is it that I do a little dance when I see this thread? There's a thread with my name on it! I'm such a weenie. [Big Grin] )

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Apparently not!

Speaking of We Love Katamari, anybody know of a site that lists all of the various levels that can be unlocked? I haven't gotten a new one in some time, and am wondering if the ones currently available to me are all that there are. Of the levels that are available to me, the only two that I haven't successfully are the origami crane level (the best I've done is 946 cranes) and the hula hoop girl (I've come close to her target, but haven't met it completely).

Also, given that I've got We Love Katamari, would it be worthwhile for me to track down a copy of the original game as well?

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I'd think that too, JT, if I didn't know him. As it is, though, I'm pretty sure that he's just taking his time. In his defense, he does have a relatively new baby at home, so he has a good excuse for being distracted.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

Noemon, you should check out We Love Katamari on gamefaqs.com. I found it to be most helpful. [Big Grin]

The original game has very similar gameplay, although I think it's worth playing just for the complete silliness of the king's speeches. They're funny in We Love Katamari, but they're MUCH funnier in the original game (though I actually like gameplay on the second game better).

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Blocked from work, I'm afraid. I'll check it out from home tonight though.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Woo-hoo! He brought it in! I'll mess around with it this weekend and make sure everything works, and we can go from there, ElJay.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

By the way Megan, thanks for the link. The FAQ on We Love Katamari is invaluable.

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

No problem. [Smile]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Fabulous. [Smile]

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

You know, it's funny about gamefaqs--Jim accuses me of "cheating" and says things like, "Wouldn't you enjoy the game more if you did it on your own?" I say, though, let me have fun my way, and you have fun your way. [Big Grin]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I shipped it, ElJay. Shipping was $13. It should be on your doorstep Monday or Tuesday.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Nifty! Thanks, Jake. I'll get a check out to you post-haste. [Big Grin]

I got a 27" TV off Craig's List for $75, it's way bigger than I expected, but should be nice to play games on. Enigmatic stopped over and helped me carry it upstairs. And I picked up a copy of Katamari Damacy last weekend. So I'm all set to go!

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

[Smile] Sounds good. That's great about the TV; sounds perfect for game playing. I'll have to get Katamari Damacy soon. I've pretty much sucked the marrow from We Love Katamari's bones, but I still want to roll up more stuff!

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Since I've played a little of each before, I figured I'd start with Damacy and roll up everything possible there before getting We <3. [Smile] Although I was tempted, since GameStop had them both.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I would like to have a level in which you start off so small that you're picking up pushpins and stuff, and by the end of the level are picking up continents (The only level We Love Katamari has that approaches that starts you off with a full 1 meter katamari).

Anything like that available in the first one, do you know?

Posted by Megan (Member # 5290) on :

The first one has an "infinity" level, I think, but I've never actually played the first game to its conclusion. I should buy it and see...you know, as a scientific experiement! For the good of the community! Yeah! That's it! [Big Grin]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

It would be quite selfless of you, wouldn't it?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I don't know, I jusy played around with the first one a bit, never got too far in. But I'll let you know if I find one, if you don't go ahead and buy it before then. [Wink]

Oh, it would, it really would! [Big Grin]

Anyway, I say buy the first game so you get to experience the bizarre language of it, which is sadly lacking in the second.

Woo! Tangent!

[Wink]

Hey, your name is in the thread title, I think you can tangent as much as you want. </enabler>

And given that I'm the thread starter and I actively encourage thread derailment as a general practice, I say "go nuts".

And it's now the title for a playlist I just put together for myself, because I was looking for something random, and that quote was the first such thing I saw that appealed.
