I have a computer with windows 2000 pro on it and today the taskbar is gone! Not just on auto hide--but GONE!

I have moved the mouse on all sides of the screen and it doesn't auto appear. hmm..

I can get to the control panel through my computer, but I no longer have the start launch, quick launch, active programs--anything. I have nothing to right click and check properties. [Cry]

Has this happened to anyone? Do you know how to get it back? Thank you!

Have you rebooted (you can do that with Ctrl-Alt-Del if the taskbar is missing)?

it still might be shrunken somewhere on the bottom, sometimes it is hard to get it to reappear. Do you have a Windows key on your keyboard?

Just hit your Escape key, There is a chance that you've just prompted the Window into fullscreen mode.

Another thing it could be is that your monitor has somehow been reset so the picture is larger than the edges of your screen casing, and you've lost an edge of your picture. Ya can fix that by resizing the picture with your monitor control.

Otherwise, your Window may have been oversized in comparison to your screen. And the Window's edge is still there past the screen's edge. Unfortunately, the mouse cursor won't reach past the screen's edge, so you can't down-size it.
I know there is a fix for the oversizing, cuz I've done it. Can't remember the how though. Something to do with setting the display resolution...I think.

I was worried about a virus, so I booted in safe mode and am running my antivirus program. I did push the windows key and the start menue appeared, so it looks lke a setting issue--or it is turned off.

It is not a monitor setting, I have already checked that issue. Do you know hwo I go about resetting my windows setting?

By-the-way, thanks. This is helpful advice.

I have seen this before. In every situation, it's been because the tool bar has been resized below the screen. I don't know if that's the case here. Go to the very bottom of your screen, see if the cursor changes into two arrows.(I can't remember if windows 2000 has the two arrows icon...if not, just click when the mouse is at the bottom of the screen, hold it, and move the mouse up) If it does, click and move the mouse up. If not, check the same for all sides.

Just had the same thing happen.
Key Ctrl Esc at the same time to pop-up the Start chart.
Go to Settings, then click Taskbar & Start Menu.
Make sure that Always on top is checked and that Autohide is not checked.
Click on Apply.
And the problem should be fixed.

Yeah - what Boris said is my guess - I see this all the time at work. It drops below the screen, and you have to get your mouse in just the right place at the very bottom edge of your screen and it will change to a north-south pointing arrow, and you can then drag the taskbar back up.
