Now there's a character I didn't expect to see in the films...

Boy, this is almost completely wrong on the details of the original comic character.

*geek nitpicking*

Peter's first girlfriend was Betty Brant.

He didn't even -know- Gwen in high school, much less date her.

And her being his "first love" is arguable. First long-term, beyond-infatuation love, perhaps.

*end geek nitpicking*

Is she the sylph of a girl who was in The Village?

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

I believe so, yes. I recall her performance being the sole bright spot in that otherwise painfully bad film.

Interesting. I wonder if this introduction is because Kirsten Dunst has said she wouldn't do another movie after the 3rd. This way they can keep a love interest in the franchise going forward.

In other Bryce Dallas news, she's been cast to play Rosalind in Kenneth Branagh's upcoming As You Like It.

I can't wait. [Smile]

edit: ooh. That link beat me to the news. [Smile] It looks like a fantastic cast though!!

Topher Grace is playing a bad guy?!

THIS should be interesting.

He's playing Venom. It's kind of crazy.

What's odd for me is that the Gwen Stacy storyline here has been pretty much completely inverted, given that we've already done the Green Goblin bit.

Yeah, that's confusing and weird.

He's WHAT?!

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

It's a little-known fact that Topher Grace is an alien polymorph. This is actually a role he was born to play.

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Well Tom...they may be drawing on the "Ultimate" Gwen Stacy, who bore little similarity to "Marvel Universe" Gwen Stacy in her story arc and eventual death.

Likewise, I think that Topher Grace -might- be playing a character closer to the "Ultimate" version of Venom.

Just my speculation.

Last I heard Topher was playing Chameleon. When did this change? (Granted, that was a long time ago)

Posted by FlyingCow (Member # 2150) on :

And I just checked imdb.com, and Betty Brant is being played by Elizabeth Banks. That's the receptionist at the newspaper.

Link to Villains Leak

So it's been known at least since then that Topher Grace would be Venom. As I said still weird, unless they really do make it like an Ultimate Venom type thing.

She played Betty Brant in the two previous Spidey films, FC.

Is it just me or is anyone else kind of dreading this movie coming out? Or, not dreading, but looking forward to it with apprehension, instead of unbridled glee.

Posted by pfresh85 (Member # 8085) on :

Eh, I'm more worried about X-Men 3 than Spider-Man 3, just based on rumors.

(Showing his age)

Opie's daughter is playing Gwen Stacy?

Maybe now my comic book will increase in value.

Well, between The Village and Firefly, she has already shown pretty incredible range.

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Who was she in 'Firefly'? I'm checking her IMDB page, nothing's listed.

Posted by kwsni (Member # 1831) on :

She looks like the girl who played YoSaffBridg, but her name is Christina Hendricks.

Ni!

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Uh, Christina Hendricks looks a bit more...I dunno...worldly than miss Howard. [Wink]

Guess you're right. Coulda sworn we checked the credits, too.

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Nah, they're different people. [Smile]

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Wait, there's no more Mary Jane?

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Kirsten Dunst is in the film, as MJ.

MJ and Gwen co-existed in the comic for many years.

Think "Love Triangle". [Smile]

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I thought they'd use the Black Cat for the love triangle angle.

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

The "Catwoman" film is still too recent a memory.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

I find it amusing that the current storyline in Ultimate Spider-Man is using Kitty Pryde as a love triangle element. [Smile]

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Stupid Catwoman ruining a possibly great character.

I was hoping they'd introduce the Hobgoblin and the Black Cat in the same episode and make that story arc work. Her hidden alias was in love with Harry, who was really a bad guy fighting with spiderman, who in superhero form she was in love with, but had no romantic feelings for Peter Parker.

Talk about complicated, it's like a love pentagon, but with three people.

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Kitty Pryde will be "Ultimate Spider-Girl".

*pause*

Well, laugh! It's funny!

*sigh*

Bendis, Bendis, Bendis. I sort of lost my love for USM during his Carnage story.

He is no longer in high school in spiderman 3. He was in college in spiderman 2.

He's referring to the article's mention of Gwen as Peter's high school crush:

quote:
Gwen is pivotal in Spider-Man lore as Peter's high school crush, his girlfriend and his first love. She ended up being kidnapped by the Green Goblin and died during a bridgetop battle in "Amazing Spider-Man" issue 121.

ero is right, I was referring to the article's description of the original comics character.
