I found it on DVD at Wal-Mart. Only five bucks, too. I just loved it as a child. Can you guess what it is?

Its:

The Pagemaster

Does anyone remember it?

I remember it.

Not especially fondly.

"Can you guess what it is?"

Didn't give us much of a chance now, did ya? [Smile]

I remember it.

I vaguely remember commercials for it, but don't think I've seen it. The cover art looks kinda like a proto-Potter. Not that a kid in glasses and a kindly old wizard are all that unique a concept, of course.

Why not fondly?

Enigmatic-

This movie came out in 1993 or 1994. I think it is pre-Potter.

Yes, I know. That is implied by the prefix "proto-" It's like an earlier evolutionary step.

Well, its a classic movie either way.

It is so cute when the kids get nostalgic for their childhood. [Razz]

So what? Its a good movie.

Come now the voice acting was top notch... You just need to close your eyes throught the animated sequences.

Ok, ok! It's a good movie! I'm not arguing with you!

Wasn't that the movie that had that line in it, "Do? It doesn't do anything. That's the beauty of it!"

Or was that from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?

[Laugh] Tante!

Historian- The animation isn't THAT bad. Some of it is really cool. Like the White Whale and the Dragon parts.

Tante- No, I don't think so. At least, I'm almost positive its not.

Er-hem.

CATCH-22 BY JOSEPH HELLER!

Actually, I didn't much like this movie. I read the book first, and the book's just fantastic.

What about Catch-22?

Is the movie based on the book? Or the book based on the movie?

*groan*

Tom, my friend, why do you groan?

I found Catch-22 to be one of those books you understand better after seeing the movie. I watched the movie and thought "Man, that was way darker than the book." Then I reread the book and thought "Wait, no it's not."

Steve,

The Pagemaster, IMO, bore little resemblance to Joseph Heller's book.

I think the movie from my childhood I remember with the most nostalgia is The Sandlot. Or maybe The Land Before Time. One of those two.

I liked it that movie. I think it came out back in my kindergarden days. I don't think people could easily forget it.

I remember when I went to see it for the first and only time. It was in elementary school I think, and a girl asked me if I wanted to go, so I did. Actually it was more like the girl's mom asked if I wanted to join them, as I was already at their house, so I said sure, sort of assuming that her mom would pay for me, as I was, I don't know 10 or so at the time, and didn't have much money.

But no, had to pay for myself, and then I couldn't afford any snacks, and I was late getting in. Then on top of that, I didn't even like the movie.

All in all it was a bad experience.

Pagemaster was pretty sweet. I enjoyed adventure and when horror does his little skit about whats waiting for them in the house of horror.

We watched The Pagemaster several times a year in elementary school. It was supposed to be a "reward" after we finished standardized testing... everyone despised it after a couple of years.

See, the movies I remember from my childhood are The Fox and the Hound, Supergirl, and Rainbow Bright and the Star Stealer.
