My cousin introduced me to the music of Matisyahu. It's Reggae, but Matisyahu is a Hasidic Jew.
The music is good. He doesn't extoll the virtues of Ganja. In fact, he says in one of his songs that he doesn't need it.

You know that the name Mattathias (father of Judah Maccabee) is the Greek pronunciation of Matisyahu, right?
I'm not a good judge of his music, though. I'm not so much into reggae.

He played at the Sasquatch Music Festival in 2005 and rocked.
Check out the track samples at Amazon or ITMS, or watch something here Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :
He's interesting, but not really my style.
But yes, I know who he is. Enjoy, Derrell!

He got played a lot on 103.9 there in Phoenix when I lived there. I liked the songs I heard. I'd like to know how an hasidic jew gets into the reggae business.

I saw him on "Steve Harvey's Big Time." He wowed the crowd, but it's not my style of music. (It also turns out my brother-in-law and sister know him socially, but never mind that.)
peterh: he wasn't always Hasidic. The reggae came first. There's a bio here.
