I am currently listening to "The Spy Hunter," by Project 86. Not only is the guitar super cool. But the singer's voice jives quite well with music. Its definitely head-banging worthy.

Anyone else like any musix by Project 86?

'Christian heavy metal'

*laugh at concept, but then considers if it is posible*

[Confused]

Posted by pfresh85 (Member # 8085) on :

I would have been confused by Christian heavy metal until I heard Christian rap. Now nothing surprises me.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

I have to agree with that.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

"The Spy Hunter" and its writers are both good, actually. I would have frowned at the idea too. But I changed my mind when I heard this, when I heard "Revolution," by Dizmas, and when my super duper uber religious friend told me that Switchfoot was Christian hard rock in disguise.

Pretty soon we'll be seeing; Christian Video games, about missionaries who peacefully kill demons.

Posted by Alcon (Member # 6645) on :

*sigh*

Anyone notice how of all the religions only Christianity seems to feel the need to take over multiple genre's of music and infuse them with their theology. And not only that, sometimes disguise the attempt?

I don't think I'd mind the existance of Christian rock/rap/metal/etc so much if there was hindu/jewish/islamic/buddhist/etc rock/rap/metal/etc.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Reticulum- You mean like this?

Alcon- But this IS good.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Actually, Alcon, there IS a muslim rap group.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Actually there IS a haccidic Jewish rapper. Don't know his name though.
Can't spell haccidic and I'm Jewish. How sad.

And Steve, yes. However frightening that is.
Scary, isn't it?

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Tinros, our posts began the exact same way.

[ROFL]

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

wow, Reticulum. THat's... odd.

Jinx!

Posted by signal (Member # 6828) on :

Alcon, how about hasidic reggae?? http://www.hasidicreggae.com/

I've never heard of this, but apparently he had (or is having) a concert near me that is sold out.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Ahhhh, but you owe me a soda, Tinros.

Posted by Stan the man (Member # 6249) on :

I just looked them up on Myspace and went to their site as well. Not quite my type of music, but they're not bad. To each their own.

*looks at own taste in music* (I have an assortment going back to 50/60/70/80's rock to Grunge, Punk, Goth, Nu, Death, and Heavy Metal. Odd part is is that I have a collection of country cds too.)

Because I am the last that should bad mouth any of that.

That's the guy I was talking about! Thanks!

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Ret, you really expect me to ship a soda from Ohio to Oregon?

Not to mention I'm flat out broke.

Sorry, dude.

Posted by Alcon (Member # 6645) on :

Oh hey cool [Smile]

Ok, now I can forgive the christian stuff. [Wink]

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Darn, I just have to get one from someone else. Is pop (a term used for soda) used widely, or just in Oregon?

I heard it's only us who use it.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

I use both, depending on mood.

And then there's the south, where EVERYTHING is a "Coke."

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

I haven't had a fix of coke in a day or two. Usually I'm coked up. *grins*

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

*ahem*

I'm clean.

pop vs. soda

Posted by pfresh85 (Member # 8085) on :

I'm from the south and I say "soda" more than "pop" or "Coke." I've heard all 3 used though interchangably around here though.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Really? I always thought YOU of all people were coked up. [Smile] I have a spare. I'd send it to you, but I'm greedy.

....annnnd I'm Jewish. Coincedence or not?

Posted by Tarrsk (Member # 332) on :

Ahh, Switchfoot, the jump-the-sharkingest band since Weezer.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

You thought I was coked up? Noooooo. I'm a D.A.R.E. graduate. Even though the girl who gave her "Why I'm drug free" speech at the graduation was getting high behind the school every day... in sixth grade.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

I agree with the conclusion Rappin'.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Hah! Sorry, Tin. It's just this vibe I get from you. And shame on you! I was talking about Coca-Cola, not drugs! [Wink]

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

hmm. I didn't know I gave off that vibe. Could you explain this to me? Cuz I'm definately a Pepsi girl. [Big Grin]

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Straange how this topic went from Christian heavy metal, to whether people say 'pop', or 'soda'. yet, if you do through, it all makes sense.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

*GASP* I don't know, it's just the way you... I don't know, I just don't know.

*Inhales from cool pipe, whilst wearing a fez.*

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Just the way I act like a typical teenager? [Wink]

*bangs head to Christian heavy metal*

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Ah. Comepletely understood.

Well, I'll be an adult in four months, so I shoudl probably start fixing that.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

That phrase is one big oxymoron. As is 'Happy Monday'

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

But then, where's the fun in life? Besides the fun that is.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

*bangs head to Christian heavy metal while singing, "Well, now the tide is turning bum bum bum de bum de bum bum de bum!"*

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

What's the definition of "Bum", and "Dum"? They have to be the most common beat substitues when singing.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Wait, I believe fun is under the rock in my frontyard, or next to sugar in the pantry.

I can never remeber which!

[Wall Bash]

What?

Posted by Synesthesia (Member # 4774) on :

Suddenly that Breakfast in Hell song comes to mind...
It would be cooler if it were METAL.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

What song is that? Who is it by? And is it good? Its sounds cool.

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Who! What! When! Where! Why!

Posted by Ryan Hart (Member # 5513) on :

Song: Breakfast Club
Band: Newsboys
CD: Take Me To Your Leader
Good: It's super weird.
Do I own that CD: yes

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

What does that have to do with anything?

Posted by Ryan Hart (Member # 5513) on :

that's the song Synesthesia's talking about

Posted by Reticulum (Member # 8776) on :

Cheese!

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Ryan, no it isn't. Look at the title SHE wrote. And look at the title YOU wrote.

I've listened to Project 86 since their self-titled albumn came out in 98. They've improved dramatically but my taste in music has changed. "Truthless Heroes" is still one of my favourite albumns.

Wow, the intro song on the site rocks. I'll have to check out this albumn.

I love "Breakfast In Hell"!

I've been modded!

Steve, they're quite obviously talking about the same song.

Have you listened to their album Songs to Burn Your Bridges By ?

Are you sure? I looked on iTunes and there was a song entitled "Breakfast in Hell," by some guy from Texas.

Posted by Primal Curve (Member # 3587) on :

To answer your first question. No. I haven't. "Truthless Heroes" is the last albumn of theirs I've listened to.

Second question, Yes. I am more than positive. The Newsboys are invariably going to come up whenever a discussion of Christian music presents itself. They or DC Talk.

Edit to add: You probably won't like that song- especially if you like P86. I do, but only because I have fond memories of going to a Newsboys concert before that albumn came out and hearing that song. It was a pretty good show, actually.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Is "Truthless Heroes" really good?

Posted by Primal Curve (Member # 3587) on :

Yeah. I was trying to find a song that's a good example of that albumn, but I couldn't decide. You could try "Little Green Men" or "Shelter Me" or "S.M.C."

If you really want to listen to a good rock albumn, though. I cannot, cannot recommend "Scenes from a Memory" by Dream Theater more. Hell, I can't recommend Dream Theater enough. Though their shows suck (zero stage presence), their albumns are awesome.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

I'll look into them.

I heard it's only us who use it.

Here in Canada we call it pop, too. And if you say "soda" we give you funny looks.

It MUST be the same song... how many songs about breakfast in hell can there possibly be, anyway?

PS: Newsboys rock. Also Audio Adrenaline!

"Hell, I can't recommend Dream Theater enough."

[Party] Dream Theater is awesome. Although I liked Liquid Tension Experiment better, since I don't really like the singer in DT (which I think is the only difference between the two).

Posted by Primal Curve (Member # 3587) on :

You lose coolness points for using the party graemlin.

Posted by GaalDornick (Member # 8880) on :

[Grumble] Can I gain them back since I used to be able to play part of the bassline to one of Liquid Tension's song (I think it was Acid Rain)?

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

The only way you can GAIN coolness points is by being cool. Which is why I don't have any coolness points.

Have you gone to the Simpsons' website and looked at one of Ned Flander's son's profile? You can save the heathens by shooting the Bible at them!

I'm a huge fan of Dead Poetic, and I'm not even that fond of hardcore. I just love them. I especially like, "Tell Myself Goodbye" and "Ollie Otson."

And the lead singer is kinda hot. [Razz]

Ryan -- Also own that CD -- it totally rocks. I love that song most of all.

Steve - I beg to differ. Many people call "Breakfast Club" by the name "Breakfast in Hell" because that is part of the lyrics -- "they don't serve breakfast in Hell."

quote:

Alcon -- I don't think these young artists are trying to "take over" ANYTHING. They simply like to listen to the heavy metal/rap/rock rhythms and genre, yet the secular versions have lyrics they disagree with, so they develop the same genre with lyrics they can feel comfortable singing along with.

Farmgirl

edit: yeah - I guess I only read the first page of this thread before posting, and didn't realize all that was said on the second page.
