My friend Cameron and I have made a very important decision. Actually, it is a very stupid decision. But we intend to carry it out. And we will despite the fact that we will be made fun of and taunted by our peers.

We've decided that when next football season comes around we are going to be the only two Detroit Lions fans. We really don't know anything about them though. Does anyone know any history of the franchise? Or a place in Missouri where we could get Detroit Lions merchandise?

Because we both think it is going to be difficult to locate t-shirts.

Why would you torture yourselves like that?

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Because we're just like that ok?

The internet would probably be a good place for merchandise, as would any sporting goods store in Michigan.

I'd hit the grocery store, too, for some brown paper bags.

Be careful that they don't confiscate them if you actually go to the game.

The internet is going to be the best place to find anything, huh? I might be able to get a hat at one of those specialized hat stores at the mall, maybe?

The internet allows you to remain largely anonymous to the community surrounding you when buying said merchandise. Which means the paper bags have a better chance of working. [Razz]

"Detroit Lions fans. We really don't know anything about them though. Does anyone know any history of the franchise? Or a place in Missouri"

Detroit is in Michigan. I thought I'd help you start learning about Detroit. Google is a good reference, there are maps and all sorts of information at your fingertips.

But stuff on the internet is both:

1) Expensive

2) In need of a credit card, which I don't have and my parents probably won't want to use.

I wonder if I could find it at a sport-ish store near me. One where the specialize in sports merchandise.

Edit:

I know Detroit is in Michigan. If you read the rest of the sentence, I say a place in Missouri where one could buy merchandise. I never say that I thought that Detroit was in Missouri.

Uh, Chreese, they want a place in Mizzou to get Lions merch. I think they MIGHT just know that d-town is not in Missouri. [Wink]

What he said. And what I said at the end of my earlier post.

The Detroit Lions have not won a championship since 1957. 'Nuff said.

Posted by TheTick (Member # 2883) on :

Is the fact that they recently won a championship reason enough to root for a team?

Which is why we intend to be their fans. Maybe if they have at least two fans, we can boost their self-esteem and they'll shine through in the next season. Or we're just conceited and want people to pay attention to us. [Big Grin]

This shall be interesting, I must say. But how will you ensure that you're their only fans? You'll have to kill a few people.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

If they play like they have in the past, I don't think we'll have to bump very many people off. But, if we do, I know this guy who'd be willing to kill them if we convince him that the targets are me.

This is a strange thread.

But, by the way, Steve, are you going to be at FBLA District 2 competitive events on Friday? Are you even in FBLA?

"Is the fact that they recently won a championship reason enough to root for a team?"

I wasn't saying that he shouldn't root for them, TheTick. He asked for history of the franchise, so I gave him a a very important fact about the team [Wink] .

What are you talking about?

FBLA is Future Business Leaders of America, and since I know that you're from Sullivan...SHS is in district 2, as well as my school.

I was just wondering if you would be competing on Friday at Union.

If you're going for the jersey-cool level of fanship, then the obvious answer is Barry Sanders. Learn everything - and have a good speculative reason why he really decided to retire early.

Also, familiarize yourself even more with the NFC North (formerly Central) and the very early history of the NFL. This is a good place to start.

I don't think so...I'm going to St. James for a Scholar Bowl tournament though...

Two of my friends who didn't care much about football did something similar to this.

One started routing for the Bengals, one for the Browns. They were the two worst teams that year.

I doubt that whichever one of them picked the Bengals still follows them, but they look like they've turned their luck around this year [Smile] .

But actually, I would suggest for anyone who is looking to get into a sport, for whatever reason, to pick a favorite team to follow. Even to semi-sports fans like me, I only ever care when one of my favorite teams is playing. I don't know if I would pick the worst team in the league, but that's an option if you don't mind watching your favorite team lose a lot.

One good thing about that is that if the team ever does start doing well, no one can accuse you of jumping on a band-wagon. And teams do turn themselves around sometimes. Like the St. Louis Rams did. Or the Eagles when they got McNabb.

I don't know... The Lions actually do have quite a few fans. An' I wouldn't expect them to do better. Ford is making too much money off of a second rate team, why change for the better? [Mad]

Steve, if you're not going, I need to ask of you a favor.

Convince all the FBLA members at your school to vote for me for District 2 Secretary?? Please [Hail] ?

The name's Alex Dzurick, from South Callaway. Tell them that I'll have campaign stuff there and I'll find them!

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

00345- I don't know anyone in this FBLA of which you speak...as you noticed I had no idea what it was. They either don't exist here, or they just don't do a lot of advertising.

Stan- Because I said so.

You do go to Sullivan High School, no?

How big is your school?

Posted by genius00345 (Member # 8206) on :

I figured it out. As I was flipping through the official FBLA booklet thingy, I only saw ONE person from Sullivan...name of Nick Dunne.

So, yeah, you must have a REALLY small chapter. But, on the bright side, I did win secretary! (*forgets to mention I was the only one running*)

You should look into joining FBLA at your school, though, Steve. It's really fun, seems like something you might enjoy. Just ask someone in the business department!

EDIT: Just because Nick was the only one in that list doesn't mean there's not more people in the chapter, because the list was only performance events. There were also written tests!
