Well, since I just passed 500 posts, and it's been pointed out that newbies are apparently supposed to introduce themselves instead of jumping right in (oops), I thought I'd post an intro. (Not enough posts for a landmark yet, but I couldn't believe I'd posted 500 times already!)

OSC has been my favorite author for quite a few years now, although I've been having to branch out lately (waiting for him to write as fast as I read). I had read his references to Hatrack in a few books, which is how I found the forum. Actually I lurked for a LONG time before joining, which is why I feel like I've been here more than a couple months.

I love the way people post in English here instead of internet short-hand, and usually try to be respectful even when they disagree. The community is a little intimidating because so many Hatrackers know each other IRL - it's hard to step into that kind of group. But I had joined the Nauvoo forum first, and knew a few people from there, which made me feel a little less afraid to test the waters. I hope there's room for another Latter-day Saint to add to the mix.

I'm a SAHM of 4 kids, boy-girl-boy-girl (how did that happen?), in Florida. I believe my closest Hatrack neighbor is Strangelove. And I doubt I'll ever meet any IRL, unless hubby joins eventually and realizes I'm not insane to want to meet people I only know online! *gasp*

Oops - too long. Stopping now.

People thought I was insane for wanting to meet people I only knew online. I did it anyway. [Smile] The guy's now my husband. [Big Grin]

Okay, I know, I know, it's an old story, and y'all already know it. Sheesh, can't a girl have a little fun? [Razz]

Welcome, welcome, JennaDean! Yeah, a little belated, but dem's the breaks. [Razz]

Hi JennaDean, just wanted to say that I've enjoyed many of your posts. I think you are well thought out and able to present ideas in a clear but not condescending way. Welcome from one n00b to another! [Smile]

Hehe, I initially parsed SAHM as Single-Adult-Hispanic-Male (along the lines of personal ads). I thought, "Wow, weird screen name for a hispanic man." It took me a minute to figure out what it was actually an acronym for.

Thanks for the introduction. [Smile] It's always nice to know a little more about people.

Oops. Sorry. [Blushing]

One more thing about me: I'm of the camp that likes the smilies, as opposed to those who hate them; at least they're preferable to not being able to tell someone's emotions, or someone thinking I'm serious when I'm joking.

But I've developed a real pet peevance to this one: [Hail]

Awwwww. But I like the worshipful grape!

Anyway, thanks for the intro JennaDean. [Smile] And welcome again to Hatrack! [Big Grin]

JennaDean, I've been lurk-reading your posts for a while now and they come across as very intelligent and well-crafted. It's a pleasure to read them and to have you here.

Hey, JennaDean, sounds like we both have the same hang-up about meeting our online acquaintences IRL. I haven't really figured out how to bring up the subject of a Hatrack-style get-together, and have thus only met a handful of fellow board members.

Oh, and:

[Hail] Magic fridge! Magic fridge!

I don't mean to be a newbie in this question but, what is the purpose of a landmark thread?

Welcome, JennaDean.

If ya like smilies, then: [Wave]

BTW, where in FL are you? My wife is from Orlando. Oh, and she thought it was weird too the first time I wanted to meet internet "friends" in person. She got over it and so would your husband, I imagine, once he realized how cool we all are. [Big Grin]

Advent, it has become something of a Hatrack tradition to post a landmark thread when you hit 1000 posts (and some do again at 2000 or 5000, etc.). It's an opportunity to talk about your life, about what's important to you, about significant events or changes, about your relationship to the Hatrack community, and so on. And for the rest of us it has become a nice way to get to know on a deeper level someone we have interacted with but most likely have never met.

Keep in mind, of course, that this is coming from someone who is still a long way from posting his first landmark. [Smile]

[Edited for clarity.]

Nice to meet you, JennaDean, here as well as elsewhere. *waves

I think of [Hail] as a little guy stuck to the floor with really strong industrial glue. He's been trying to get away for hours -- that's why he's purple. Lack of oxygen. If you squint just right, you can catch the terrorized, gasping look on his face.

It helps.

Oops from me too. Looks like I'll have to get on that soon.

By the time I actually began posting (very very recently), you already seemed to me to be an established poster. I hadn't noticed your join date until this thread, actually, and it surprised me. Hooray for un-newbie-seeming newbies. [Smile]

It doesn't do anything...that's the beauty of it.

Hmm...I don't think I ever properly introduced myself either, other than a "Hi, I'm new" post. But I think I'll just save it for my landmark, whenever that happens.

And that was a very nice introduction, JennaDean. I like reading your posts. [Smile]

What *IS* SAHM an acronym for? I still can't figure it out... [Confused]

Oh and welcome JennaDean [Smile]

I'm pretty sure it's "Stay At Home Mom".
