Forgive me, for I have dobied.

quote:
There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultraviolence.
quote:
The Durango-95 purred away real horrorshow - a nice, warm, vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. Soon, it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark. We fillied around for a while with other travellers of the night, playing hogs of the road. Then we headed west, what we were after now was the old surprise visit. That was a real kick and good for laughs and lashings of the old ultraviolence.
quote:
It was the next day, brothers, and I had truly done my best, morning and afternoon, to play it their way and sit, like a horrorshow co-operative malchick, in the chair of torture, while they flashed nasty bits of ultraviolence on the screen. Though not on the soundtrack, my brothers. The only sound being music. Then I noticed in all my pain and sickness what music it was that like cracked and boomed - it was Ludwig van - Ninth Symphony, fourth movement.

When I first saw the movie title, I thought it was "Ultraviolent" myself. I called it that once or twice before someone corrected me. I pointed out that it was still accurate, for which they had no rejoinder.

I had such a hard time reading this the first couple attempts, mostly because of the slang. I just couldn't "hear" Alex' voice in my head. I had to watch the movie for the lightbulb to go off and comprehension to set in.

I think Alex DeLarge is very sexy both in the book and the movie. Especially in the movie.

...maybe I'm messed up in the head.

Good book. Pages one and two were tough going, but after that, I knew the slang well enough to read easily.

I read the book the summer of '78, when I was up at camp (I was 15). A friend of mine read it as well, and we spent the rest of the summer using the slang in the book as our own private language.
