Do you guys think the movie was funny? I did. Many of my friends have seen it and they have said anything from "Sucked" to "Freaking Hilarious" I was wondering what you guys thought? I'm kinda of wondering why people thought it sucked though.

Hmm I sort of liked it and disliked it at the same time. It had a LLAMA in it! Llamas are sooooooooo cute... And he was all like, "Eat your dinner, Tina." and that was funny. And his dancing was good... And there were other things that were good... But it was sort of... Perhaps I'll watch it again.

We inflicted it on my Mom. She *so* didn't get it. Her first response was, "That was some of the worst acting I have ever seen."

We disliked it the first time we saw it (in the theater and didn't know anything about it except that it was "hilarious". We were totally not prepared for what kind of movie it was).
Then my nephew got it for Christmas and we listened to it/watched it many times over the holiday. It became funny the instant we stopped taking it so seriously and just enjoyed it.

It had funny parts to it (I love when they order the time machine from the internet...that killed me) but mostly I was bored with it. It's a funnier movie in retrospect than it was during viewing.

For Christmas my family got The Pretender DVDs. I immediately fell in love with poor, brilliant, geeky, unrespected Broots. Can you imagine my shock and horror when I found out that he was Uncle Rico? I still haven't forgiven him.

Having lived in SE Idaho, I liked it in ways that a lot of people just wouldn't get, and my children loved it. We actually knew some of the extras (most notably the farmer who shoots the cow in view of the school bus).
I really have no desire to see it again though. My SweetBaboo refused to see it, because he thought it looked "painful". He's never been to Idaho though, so he wouldn't get a lot of what we liked about it.

*excited squeal* The third season's pretty.. different so far. We've only been allowed to watch the first two disks, ten episodes or so.. The last one had Jarod narrating. Q.o? But there was plenty of Broots action in the fourth episode, I believe it was. I've only watched it six times in the past week. I hope they come out soon by you!

Terrible. A couple good moments don't make up for the vast stretches of nothing. If that's your thing, good for you. I'd rather be sodomised by an elephant than have to endure Napoleon Dynamite again.

I actually tried to avoid this movie when it first came out because of my complete lack of interest in it, but after hearing over and over about how great it was, my curiosity finally got the best of me.
The movie did have its funny moments. I chuckled at parts and laughed out loud at others, but overall I feel it was terribly overrated. I also think that my opinion of it would probably be a little better if I didn't have to listen to everyone around me constantly quoting lines from it.

It's an eminently quotable film. It's similar, as a phenomenon, to THe Big Lebowski (which I personally find to be much better, AND eminently quotable).

I don't have very high expectations of movies to begin with. I mean, I liked Aeon Flux. I LIKE "bad" movies.
But Napolean Dynamite sucked even by my standards.

See, I thought ND was a really sad movie about people who are unhappy, lost in the world, and utterly incapable of making their lives better. It had funny moments, but I finished the movie feeling sad for all the characters. At least the people in the The Big Lebowski seem Ok with where they are in life, miserable as it may seem to me.

mph, yeah. I liked ND, just not as much (it was a bit overhyped to me). They are both movies whose viewing pleasure can be crushed simply by the audience you watch it with.

I watched it and thought it was enjoyable. Some fun parts and one liners that you just wouldn't expect to hear from people.
Unfortunately, it's not a widely accessible movie as you can see from the variety of responses to this thread.

I loved this movie. I was amazed when I was looking at urban legends for a school project and found that the state of Idaho actually passed a state resolution commending the film and the creators for its references to important features of Idaho. I've probably said it before, but Napoleon Dynamite was therapeutic in helping me come to terms with my hatred of Idaho. Everytime they showed the sweeping wheat fields, and dirt roads the thought recurred "I hate Idaho." I kept waiting for something to happen. Something funny, something sad, something interesting, but nothing ever did. In that respect the movie reflects Idaho. It wasn't necessarily offensive, it just simply wasn't anything else.
