I had the best start of my day, today! My husband's van, after having a nice long rest at the end of the driveway, refused to start. So, I called the AAA, got a jump start, drove around for a while and all was well. Except, the van again lay fallow for a few days, and again, when pressed to service, refused to start.

Oy. Now I know there is a problem. Something that will land up sapping my time and money. I told the boss I would probably be a bit late in the morning, called my mechanic and made an appointment to bring in the van and for him to lend me a car for the day. I got up early this morning to call AAA for the jump start and bring the van to the shop and then get to work before being too late.

Twenty minutes after I hung up the phone with the AAA dispatcher, the AAA truck pulled into my driveway, and a merry little AAA elf hopped out. The guy was maybe 4'8", had a little pointy beard, a cap that also came to a bit of a point, and sparkling, merry eyes. He sang and whistled while he worked. He got a little box out of the back of his truck so that he could reach up under the hood of the van, and got it jump-started lickety-split. Then he got out his diagnostic equipment and tested the battery, alternator, and other mysterious things lurking under the hood. He pronounced my battery to be rotten, but said there was no problem. He could sell me and install a new battery right away. With a discount. 15 minutes after he arrived, I had a new battery, with a 6-year guarantee, and was all ready and set to go for 90-some dollars.

I wasn't even late for work!

And then, in a flash, the merry little AAA elf was gone!

That's great, Tante! I hate when car batteries end their natural life. It's a good thing this happened in March. Later in the year, he might have been too busy building toys to moonlight at AAA. [Smile]
