The Relay for Life is an activity sponsored by the American Cancer Society. People form a team of 10-15 people and vow to raise money for the Society and then walk in honor and remembrance of those with cancer.

This year I've made the decision to become a team captain. It's a big deal and I have a lot of responsibilities. I've decided our goal should be $1500 (enough to be in the Bronze Club) and I don't think that will be too difficult. We are a new team but I am confident we can do it!

I only have one problem. We have no name. My co-captain has been no help with this matter. He's come up with names like "Go Go Gadget Cancer" and "Cancerific." *sigh*

The team I was on last year was called "Chemo Chicks." That name seemed appropriate because we were women who worked in a cancer office. My team this year is a mixed bag. These are men and women from all walks of life. I was hoping one of the creative minds of Hatrack could help me think of a catchy name.

So, what do you think?

Note: I will post our website after we come up with a name. It won't let me make one until I can tell them who we are.

Thanks Bob! I'll PM you with an address.

I think as our main fundraising event, we'll host a garage sale. If you or Dana have anything you want to get rid of, let me know and I'll come pick them up.

Hey Val -

if you think of any cool fundraising / activities for your RFL, would you mind sharing them? We're doing pretty good on fundraising, but I'm having trouble coming up with activities to have at the event.

So far, we've had $5 casual days at work, and my wife made and sold Christmas Cards. Oh, and a few scrapbooks. She had another good idea, but I forgot it.

We're planning on doing face painting at the event. Another team is going to sponsor a magician [Big Grin]

On the naming thing, I have no creativity. I had a poll in my office, and we ended up with "Storm Troopers", in reference to our utility work.

The Pittsboro Team has a lot of great ideas.

My work last year had a silent auction and they raised over $16,000 on that one event. It was a lot of work but everything was donated and it didn't cost them a thing.

Cancerific is so bad is good. Your co-captain is a genius.

Wow Val - you guys are a lot more big time than we are. We had maybe 5 teams above 2k, and 3500 is usually about the top donation-getter. My county sucks.

We're going to try a basket bingo (still trying to sort out all the rules w/ ACS). There is a team that's going to do a yard sale of donated items. We do have a silent auction at the event, but I don't think it raises a lot.
