I'm really stumped about this. My boss of about 2 years has been pretty much fired . Me and one of my coworkers want to get him a "goodbye present." Some of you hatrackers have great taste, do any of you have any good ideas for a present to buy him? It should be around $50. He is an older guy in his 60's. I don't know much about his personal life so it will probably have to be a generic kind of gift.

Do you happen to know of a restaurant he likes? If so, a gift certificate for it would probably be appreciated (and would also probably leave him feeling "known", which is always nice).

Gift certificate for a massage. It sounds like he'll need some way to relieve some stress. $50 is about what a 30 minute massage costs.

What about an engraved clock? We got one for Andrew's father for his 60th birthday and he loved it.

Those are some great ideas. Thank you. Some of the items are things I hadn't thought of like massage. I kinda like the idea of something engraved. I'll have to explore some of these options. Thanks again guys!

I don't know about a gift cert for a massage. I don't know many men who are into massage, however much they may actually really like it if they tried one. I'd never get one for my boss unless I knew he'd take it in the spirit it was meant, and that it was a gift I knew he would really love to have.
One of the nicest 'goodbye' gifts I got after I was laid off my last job was a small framed print by a local artist (Jody Bergsma), signed by the artist wishing me luck on my next job. She had a gallery in town and was frequently available to personally inscribe her work. I have it hanging in my office to this day. I know it wasn't expensive...likely in that $50 range. But it meant quite a bit to me that my coworkers went to the effort of having it personally inscribed.
