So I switched from Opera to Firefox recently and I was wondering why, after selecting "open link in new tab in most recent window" under the options, Firefox still opens a completely different window?

I know computers up and down (not sideways yet [Big Grin] ) so I'm wondering if I'm just missing something simple and obvious.

EDIT: Anybody know? Of course, Google IS my friend...hmm.

Also, does anyone know how to add more fonts to FF? I added them to the Fonts folder in Windows, and they show up in IE but not FF, which is annoying.

I don't have any problems opening things in new tabs. Though someone I was talking to yesterday mentioned that she couldn't get things to open in new windows, it would always create a new tab for her. Maybe there's something strange in your setting?

I don't know about fonts, but mine also opens correctly. Just checking, you realize that the option only refers to when another program brings up an internet link? Links within Firefox are controlled separately...

To get links to open in a new tab from within Firefox, select the checkbox that says "Force links that open in new windows to open in:" (a new tab)

For custimizing tab options I highly recommend the Tab Mix Plus extension. It will allow you to do everything you ever wanted and more with tabs.

Also, If you're using this with a multi button/scroll wheel type mouse, then clicking with the middle button/scroll wheel will also open links in a new tab in the existing window.

And if you want to do it keyboard style ctrl+left click does the same thing I believe.

I've had weird quirks with Firefox. My usual solution is to wait a few days and download the next release. They seem to do new ones at least once a week.

I have yet to find one of these weird "doesn't work as expected" problems that wasn't fixed by loading the next version of the browser.

Oddly enough, uninstalling and re-installing doesn't work.

I have had problems with Firefox (same release) working one way on one machine and another way on another machine. Both machines running the same OS with the same updates applied too.

And all the settings were the same w/in Firefox.

Not sure what the deal is with that.

Firefox just updated itself and now it won't connect to the net. I just get an error page. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

No problems here, but I have resisted the change to 2.0. I'm using 1.8.

Do a quick repair of your Local Area Network. Right click>Repair or alternatively Run>Cmd>

In window:
ipconfig /renew

Or alternatively:
Power reset modem, then turn on router.

Any particular reason? I've never had any problem with 2.0.

Yup. We hates it, my precious. [Big Grin]

(I dislike the look, the integrated spell-check messes with my spell-check of choice, and several of my preferred add-ons are (or were, last I checked) incompatible.)

And if you're feeling deja-vu-y, we had this conversation once before.

Jeepers! I love the integrated spell-check messes!

I am amused to no end when I know words that my spell checker doesn't, and it suggests, in its smarmy spell-checker way, that what I really meant to type.

"Um, I think you meant "schlep nachos", my dear idiot."

When I click 'repair' in the network menu a box immediately pops up saying that the network has been repaired, and if I have any further problems to contact my network admin. Is this something I need to talk to my service providor about? That seems like a lot of hassle just to update Firefox.

I don't know how to "power reset modem." Google didn't help me there either. Heh, to tell the truth I had to stare at your post a good two minutes before I could make any kind of sense out of it. I need to get me an Everything Computer Related For Dummies.

FYI, I'm using my sisters old Compaq Presario laptop w/ XP and Firefox just updated to v. 2.0.0.5.

Have Wash send Mr. Universe a wave. If anyone can unstop the signal, it's Mr. Universe. Note: This only works during the brief span of time in which Wash and Mr Universe are (A) Born, and (B) Not skewered. If B is the case, maybe Kaylee could rig something up for you.

If I weren't already using a spell-check I like better, I probably would as well.
