Just back from the hospital. Baby boy Jones was born at 4:10 (EST) this afternoon. Mom, dad and ybab are all doing fine. Although I'm jealous that Brinestone and Jon Boy beat us, I really couldn't be happier. Now we just need a name (not even a screen-name, a real one). Feel free to vote for either:
1) Owen Blaylock Jones
or
2) Calvin Webster Jones
(and before you make fun, Blaylock and Webster are both family names). I'll post links to pictures, probably on Saturday or Sunday.

Congratulations! [Big Grin]
Owen Blaylock Jones sounds nice.
Owen = awesome name!

{Edit: Wow, I screwed up the names. Stupid moment! [Razz] }

Snoitalutargnoc!

I vote for Calvin. :-)

sweet, congrats.

I like both names... gonna go with Calvin by a slim margin.

Calvin.

But with Baylock! Baylock is an awesome name.

Owen's a gorgeous name.

Congratulations!

I like Owen too.

Congratulations!

For the moment, I second pH's vote. I like Calvin better, but I like Blaylock better than Webster. Calvin Blaylock - it kinda flows. I'll wait for the pics. Maybe he looks more like one or the other.

Can I ask why you narrowed it down to those names and who the middle names came from? I'm always curious how people got their name or who they were named after.

Congratulations, by the way.

I like Owen and Calvin, but Blaylock much better. [Smile] I agree that Calvin Blaylock has a ring to it.

Congratulations! How big was he?

Congratulations! And I vote for Calvin Blaylock too.

Congratulations!

Webster is such a cool name, but it is out-cooled by Blaylock.

What a lucky kid to have either one of those as middle names.

Congrats! I'm gonna vote Calvin.

Congrats! I would have to follow pH's vote and say that I like Calvin Blaylock. It's a nice name, I must admit.

Congrats!

Calvin Webster gets my vote.

Congratulations!

Calvin Webster gets my vote, but just barely!

What about Webster Blaylock Jones?

Posted by theamazeeaz (Member # 6970) on :

Name your kid Calvin.

I know like 14589348934 babies who are named Owen. It's not unique anymore. Webster, however is. (although I foresee bad internet jokes)

Snoitalutargnoc, SenojRetep!

Thanks, everyone.

Stats:
Baby boy is 8lbs 5.5oz, 21 inches long, with sparse reddish blonde hair, dark bluegreen eyes and very fair eyelashes. Labor was 17 hours long (exactly as long as with our first). Transistion and pushing was the worst of it, and lasted for about an hour.

A note on the names:

Owen- I like because it's Welsh, as is my paternal line. We're a bit leary of what suddenly seems to be a very trendy name, particularly in the NE where we live, but we both like it.

Calvin- Like the name for it's puritan religious overtones, and because I have a good friend named Alvin who made me promise never to name a child after him (because of chipmunk jokes). This would let me name my boy after him and avoid connotations.

Blaylock- My wife's maternal grandfather. Not sure of the origin of the name, but the point was to make it family.

Webster- My paternal grandfather (actually, his middle name, but it's the name he went by). Over the past four generations several of the oldest boys in my family have had the middle name Webster, including my grandfather, my uncle, my oldest brother and oldest cousin, and several others.

I'll mention that Calvin Blaylock got some votes to my wife. The reason we haven't much considered it is because we didn't think it flowed very well. Thanks again for the good wishes and the name ideas.

I vote the Owen choice. (I'm partial to Welsh names)

[Smile] Congrats! I put my vote in for Calvin Blaylock as well. Calvin is such a cute name and everyone would call him Cal, which is adorable.

I like Owen Blaylock.

Congrats!

I think Owen Webster flows nicely, but that might just be me.
Good luck with the decision!

You might want to check out some other Welsh names if you want something a little less trendy.

Congratulations! Whatever you choose to name him, I'm sure it will suit him perfectly.

My friend's newborn son is named Owen, so I guess it is a kind of trendy name in NE. But I still think its a great name (my love of everything Welsh nonwithstanding). Anyway, I like both the names, and many congratulations [Smile]

Thanks for all the thoughts and congratulations (in all languages).

In the end we decided, in no small part due to Hatrack, to name the baby Calvin Blaylock Jones. Pictures can be seen here

He's precious. [Kiss]

Yay! We won...err I mean you decided on a name! [Big Grin] I think he looks more like a Calvin anyhow. So cute.

Peter Jones... How is it possible I missed that for SO STINKING LONG?

*blush*

Congratulations!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

The funny thing is, even though I usually have no problem reading backwards, upside down, or in any other order, I always read that particular name as Peter Jenos. How weird is that? [Dont Know]

Posted by Nell Gwyn (Member # 8291) on :

Oh, congratulations!!

I'm a little late for the name debate, but as I was reading the thread, I was leaning more towards Owen Webster. But then I looked at the pictures, and he definitely looks more like a Calvin. And he's adorable! [Big Grin]

Congratulations!

And if I'd gotten here in time, I would've voted for Calvin. [Smile]

Posted by Mrs.M (Member # 2943) on :

Congratulations!!!

He's so fair, but he doesn't look bald at all like most towheaded babies. Just precious.

I held off saying anything before, but I vastly prefer Calvin. I think the similar "o" sounds in Owen and Jones sound awkward together. Also, his initials would have been OJ. CBJ is a very cool monogram.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Looks like there is a lot of redheaded-tendencies in that family! and wonderful freckles!

I notice you are already referring to him as "Cal" (shortened from Calvin) in the captions [Smile]

Thanks for sharing the photos - very happy to see.

Beautiful Boy and great name!

Bryn looks like she could be one of my Nieces. You wouldn't happen to be a decendent of Thomas England (pegleg) Jones would you?

Posted by SenojRetep (Member # 8614) on :

Not that I know of; my Jones line came to the U.S. from LLanelli (Carmarthenshire), Wales in the 1840's. There are no Thomases in the line as far back as we've traced (late 1700's).

Sorry this is late. I want to congratulate the parents and the new big sister. I love the name you chose. I am glad you chose to include Blaylock. It is such a cool name to have. It is such a strong sounding name.
