I just finished uploading some photos I took during the Ironman Triathlon in Tempe. I thought you might all enjoy a look!

It was pretty amazing getting to see a triathlon up close. While I missed the swimming, I did see plenty of cyclists and runners. I can't imagine doing any one of those races, let alone all three! And the sheer size of the whole event was amazing. There were probably thousands of spectators, and probably at least a thousand athletes as well. There were quite a few volunteers helping with all aspects of the race. As I said, amazing.

My husband's first major athletic goal was to run a marathon by the time he was 30. He made it, actually running two.

Now he wants to do a triathlon.

I think he's crazy.

That said, I have tons of respect for those athletes. Tons.

Wow, congratulations to your husband! (I might also agree on the crazy part...I can't believe how much endurance marathon and triathlon athletes must have).

I'm hoping to do a tri someday. But a teeny-tiny one. No way I could do the Ironman.

A tri is long away, though. I've gotten terribly out of shape since my marathon. Now I can barely walk a half mile without getting back pain. [Frown] I'm trying to do something about that, though, and have vague plans to do a half sometime in the next year.

Okay, I just looked at the pictures (I was just about to leave work when I posted the above, so didn't have time before).

HOLY COW IT LOOKS HOT! O_O I know this is Arizona, but still! What was the temperature that day? From the way the spectators are dressed, I'm betting I wouldn't even want to do a 5K in that weather, let alone an Ironman.

Oh, it was easily 90 degrees that day, maybe hotter. I was actually thinking to myself how unpleasant it would be to exercise in that weather. I was pretty overheated just from walking a mile or two to reach the event.

I want to do a mini-Ironman, but I really want someone to train with me for it.

I could do all three of the Ironman events individually, but back to back? No way.
