We all have things that we should do, but we don't do them or it's difficult to make ourselves do them regularly.

Exercise is a biggie for a lot of people.

But the one really getting me right now is flossing. Even in normal circumstances it's hard for me to remember to floss. I know it's good for me, it protects from gum disease, prevents bad breath, I know all the reasons, but man do I hate doing it. I don't seem to mind brushing that badly but flossing, I just detest.

It's even worse now, after chemo treatment my platelets are really low and my gums bleed easily. Even if I take great care while flossing and brushing, and do it as gently as possible, I almost always wind up spitting out blood. Yech. [Grumble]

So what do you guys know you should do, but have a hard time making yourself do?

The big one that I'm working on right now is making sure I don't nap during the day. Earlier in the year I was napping every day. This may seem like it was heaven, but it meant that I couldn't get to sleep at night. Now, in order to assure that I get to sleep at a reasonable hour, I have prevented myself from taking naps. It's hard, but I'm doing it, for the most part.

Exercising. Not napping, much like Evie. Not overeating in a single meal. Admitting when I'm flat out wrong. Remembering that "tact" is just the act of selectively telling the truth, and applying it.

Getting up in the morning..........

Exercising every day. Reading every morning. Sticking to yummy, filling, but somewhat lacking-in-chocolate eating plan.

Posture. I have to always keep posture in mind. I'm hoping it'll become second nature (much like my European silverware habit), but as of yet, not really.

Studying.

Not binge sleeping. Waking up with my alarm clock. Not going straight to my computer in the morning. Eating breakfast. Flossing. Knowing that I will be late to class if I don't leave my apartment at least ten minutes before it starts. Calling home at least once a week so my parents know I'm alive. Reminding myself that I need to apply to law school soon to stay motivated. Remembering that I don't believe in karma.

Grading. I know I have to do it, but I hate it. Anything to avoid it.

I'm with Belle on the flossing thing. I know I should, but it's hard to do. Well, okay it's not really hard to do it's just hard to make myself do it.

Packing a lunch every day instead of eating out.

Keeping an organized desk, office, and band room.

I'm with Belle and dkw on the floss thing. And recently wearing my retainer as well. Keeping up with the reading for my classes. Not napping. Only taking an hour break between when my classes end and when I head back to studio to get my work done.

Actually, pretty much everything stated above.

And applying suntan lotion every day! I don't even tan so I have no excuse.

Not exaggerating.
Not overeating.
Not blowing up at family.

Exercising.

I don't understand. Isn't tanning considered a bad habit?

Not finishing papers at the last minute.
Not wussing out on something because I'm afraid of it (I'm currently "forgetting" to register for the GMAT repeatedly).

I'm also having to teach myself how to avoid thought loops, but that is, at least sometimes, slightly out of my control. But I have learned some relaxation techniques...I'm just having trouble setting aside the time to do them every day.

Oh, and not totally pigging out on sugar and then crashing and passing out for a few hours and waking up completely useless.

Not calling people fourteen times a day.

Not being deathly afraid of the number six.

Not overreacting about one thing and then dumping every frustration I've ever had with the person on his head all at once.

Brushing my teeth. I had braces and orthedontical appliances almost my entire childhood. Brushing my teeth with em was pointless (the glue covered my teeth completely, and they'd be filled with food gunk again 10 minutes after brushing) and gross and a pain in the ass. So I never really got in the habit. So now I'm trying to make myself get into, since I no longer have that covering of glue protecting my teeth like armor.

Theca:

I meant tan as in the skin taking on a lovely glowing pigmented clolor, not the habit (which is bad). I just burn or freckle so there is absolutely no benefit to not remembering suntan lotion.

The Rabbit, I am with you on the grading thing!

I am habitually late so trying to be on time is a big deal for me. No matter what I try to do to improve, it never seems to make a difference. Getting up on time is certainly a contributor but even when I don't snooze the alarm clock, I am still often late. [Frown]

Reading my Bible. I get so busy that I forget to make time for that. And I love doing it; it's not a chore. I just need to slow down for it.

Eating better. I am a big snacker and I can just shove food into my face mindlessly. Just this morning I ate two cookies without even really noticing and I was asking myself, "Where did those two cookies go?" Bad bad bad.

Overreacting.

Going to bed earlier so I am not so tired during the day.

pH, that's really awesome.

Working at finding a new job. I hate the task. I am shy and I get all sorts of anxiety thinking about the application process and calling all these people back. I find myself doing everything else under the sun rather than job searching even though I know I only have a month and a half left before I really need to start something new.
