I'm hoping this'll take off. [Big Grin]

Anyway, I'm really into music and video editing, and while I absolutely despise what I've seen on MTV, I know that's not all that's out there.

This thread is for people to post their favorite music videos for all of Hatrack to see. Not the illegal stuff, but the ones you can find on the artists' site and other major networks.

This is one that I just discovered and really enjoyed for it's technical muscle.

I've always liked the video for Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry

Technically simple, but a really cool effect. And I'm just such a sucker for black and white.

Hopefully, this isn't one of the MTV videos you hate.

No, to put it more specifically, I don't like most of the rap videos that were constantly looping on my College MTV station. Nothing but slow mo bump & grind groups with over centralized male characters with bling and bunch of street signals. Hip hop may have been a part of that, let me check out that video!

Hey that's pretty cool, never heard of this person. Going to do some Google-Fu on this.

Anything and everything directed by Michel Gondry. Examples: Foo Fighters - Everlong, Daft Punk - Around the World, Cibo Matto - Sugar Water, Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World, Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar, Bjork - Hyperballad, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Most things directed by Spike Jonze. Examples: Beastie Boys - Sabotage, Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice, Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet, Weezer - Undone, The Pharcyde - Drop, Being John Malkovich.

Almost all of Bjork's music videos.

Edit to add specific video links:

Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar (by Michel Gondry)

Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World (by Michel Gondry)

Daft Punk - Around the World (by Michel Gondry)

Foo Fighters - Everlong (by Michel Gondry)

Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice (by Spike Jonze) - Who doesn't like Christopher Walken dancing around a room?

My brother sent me this one. I really like it, though I'm not that enthusiastic a fan of the band itself.

My favorite music video of all time is the JXL vs. Elvis version of "A Little Less Conversation". The one with the dancers in the boxes.

Then there's Steve Perry's "Oh, Sherri", and maybe Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun." No, strike that one. Lauper's "Time After Time" is better.

'Course, I don't watch a lot of music videos.

My childhood dream was to make music videos.

Oh wait, that's still my dream that's never gonna happen [Big Grin] .

In any case!

Ok Go made a video in their backyard that still makes me smile...I figure this has been linked before but *shrugs* sue me. Maybe not the best example of the medium but it's entertaining [Big Grin] .

http://www.okgo.net/video.asp

The 'A Million Ways' Video.

Michel Gondry did Lucas with the Lid Off, right?

I got rid of cable a few months ago so no more of the video channels...but at that point I was only rarely able to see videos anyway [Frown] . It also seems that the songs I really like and would love to see a video for just aren't breaking through...or at least I'm not seeing them online [Frown] .

I am not much of a music video fan. I tend to agree with Lewis Black that if a music video matches the images you had in your head from listening to the song, you have a problem.

So I only like one: Glow by Alien Ant Farm.

Maroon 5 - "This Love."

Admit it. You think those angry, lip-biting makeout shots are hot, too.

I also saw a really cool hip-hop video the other day...the singer danced really well, and he and everyone else were dressed in suits and hats...and...it just looked cool. I don't remember who it was, though! But it featured Lil' Wayne, I think.

I don't have links, but I really liked the music videos for:

- "BYOB" by System of a Down

- "Time and Time Again" by Chronic Future

- "Star Wars Gangsta Rap" by...I don't really know...

I have to agree with you on this one. I'm not a big fan of the song, but I love how well the video turned out.

"I'd Rather Dance with You" by Kings of Convenience

I saw it playing in CompUSA of all places and couldn't stop watching.

I agree with everything eros said. Have you gotten the DVD that's entirely his music videos? It's amazing. I love the White Stripes ones as well, such as Fell in Love With a Girl , and Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground , as well as The Hardes Button to Button . All of those are quality.

I never bought my own copy because two of the guys I used to live with owned both the Gondry & Jonze DVDs, along with four others in the "The Work Of Director..." series.

The shorts were also amazing.

I have been enjoying Utada Hikaru's music videos I got from google video. (I really just wanted the songs but I could not find them, so I am making do with the music videos)

I don't watch MTV or CMT often, but I happened to be watching one day, and saw Johnny Cash's "Hurt" video, and was bawling my eyes out. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

I keep being reminded of how old I am(it is sort of a theme for me this week). One of the reminders is being around when music videos first came out.

I wasn't too into the song or the band for that matter, but Go With The Flow by the Queens of the Stone Age is an interesting example of cell shading and CG usage. To be honest, the video creeped me out for the longest time, dunno why. I think it was well done though.

Can't think of any more at the moment.

It appears as though this band had $10,000 to shoot a video and spent $9,975 on cocaine.
Best music video ever.

Do you know what that song is called? I remember hearing it on the radio, actually, but I don't know who does it.

Also... there should be a warning. The URL printed across the video is a porn site.

[Edit: Never mind. It's the Tommy Seebatch Band, and the song is (duh) "Apache"].
