If you want to watch a genuinely entertaining, positive film released this weekend, watch it.

Keke Palmer is proving herself to be a gifted young actress.

The film even avoids the traps usually associated with 'message' movies.

It looks like it would be mildly amusing as well.

It's more than mildly amusing, trust me. The humorous parts are laugh-out-loud funny. [Smile]

It's too bad I live in redneck central. It won't come to our cinema.

The most impressive thing about the film is that the real message isn't some cliche about developing talents (though it may seem headed in that direction initially). It's about something even more important- Caring about others.

Which is exactly why it won't be coming here.

We won't get it here either, Steve. I work at the local cinema, and I can pretty much bet you that we won't get it. Now, if only they'd have waited a few weeks- because we're opening our new 8-screen multiplex on May 19th. (We only have 2 screens right now.) Then we might have gotten it (on a small screen, of course).

I really would like to see it though, as a former National Spelling Bee participant.

When I first saw a commercial for it I couldn't figure out what their target audience was. An inner city kid battling to win a selling bee? Very odd premise. But hearing that it's good has peaked my interest. [Smile]

didnt starbucks produce this film?? If so it will soon be EVERYWHERE... in fact, in a few weeks it will be the only thing playing in your local multiplex.

I happened to see a trailer for it, and it really does look good.

Ebert and Roper gushed about it, so I've been wanting to see it. It might be a while before I can, though, because of Lego.

It was a nice movie. I'll wait for more people to see it before doing some gushing of my own.

Considering the vastly diminished box office returns its had each week of its limited release, you'll probably be waiting quite a while. [Frown]

I saw it last Friday and it was really good. I am not a huge comedy person but a big enough geek that I wanted to see this one for date night. I laughed out loud in multiple sections and my fiance' who usually perfers action movies liked it as well. The whole theater really got into it. People were laughing and clapping throughout the whole movie. I recommend seeing it if you get the chance.
