I'm doing a research project on firefighter hiring procedures; I've found a lot of information so far, but haven't been able to find much info on the San Francisco FD. I tried google, tried searching through news archives... nada.

Specifically, and most importantly, I'm looking for information on the components of the test and their relative value. Can anyone give me some advice, please?

Also: if you would happen to have any advice for finding information, albiet not specifically for San Fran, it would be great.

Hope this at least gives you a start. I googled "San Francisco Fire Department" and "san francisco firefighter test california," both without quotes to get those links. There are lots more links, but these seem most relevant to what you want...

Is this for an HR course by any chance? I did something very similar in college.

If it's like Birmingham, the hiring may not be done through the city of San Fran itself. Around here the Jefferson County personnel board does all the hiring and administers all the tests.

That stuff is public record and should be pretty easy to obtain. I would think a phone call to the administrative offices of the SFFD would give you the name of the agency that handles the testing and hiring.

I don't know if this is affecting your search, but keep in mind that the city and county of San Francisco are the exact same thing. The fire dept. may be run by only on or the other or both...
