My ipod shuffle wont turn on, it blinks orange and green several times but doesnt turn on any more I never dropped it. It makes no sense that it would suddenly go pfft.

Also every couple of days my left or right ear hears a noticible ringing sound that I find odd, should I be concerned?

PS: I did try resetting the Ipod it didnt help.

Since you ask both questions in the same post, I assume you believe them to be related. If you're listening to your music too loudly, you can damage your ears.

A suggestion that I've heard is that if you can't understand a conversation at regular volume while listening to music with headphones, you've got the music too loud.

This kind of hearing damage can be permanent, so be careful. From what I hear tinnitus (ringing of the ears) can be really, really bad if it progresses too far.

I don't know anything about iPods. Batteries maybe? You're on your own there

Tinnitis doesn't HAVE to be really bad, though. Sometimes you get tinnitis from things like talking on the phone for a long time. Or if you have an ear infection.

I used to get it a lot when I was little, and it couldn't have been hearing loss because I wasn't allowed to listen to music really, unless it was those educational tapes that teach you your times tables. Or a handful of records (yes, records) that I think used to belong to my mom.

As for the ipod, I don't know. Maybe the drive/memory device is bad. Next time, don't buy an ipod.

True, tinnitus itself isn't necessarily bad, nor is it necessarily caused by damage to the inner ears. It can be a symptom though, and it's always good to take care of the ol' ears. Especially if you like music enough to buy an iPod. Darn, those things are so expensive!

The Shuffles aren't that expensive, I don't think. Aren't they the small 128meg ones?

They are either 512 megs or a gig.

Orange and Green means error. My only advice is reformat the device entirely. You'll have to download the latest firmware from apple.com. This should fix your problem.

Seriously though, I'm sure there has to me some forums out there for enthusists. I know my iRiver has an excellent forum. You'll probably find a dozen threads there from people with the same problem, along with solutions
