Washington Post

quote:
Facing transfer to the nation's toughest federal prison, Zacarias Moussaoui served up what may be his final legal surprise yesterday: The al-Qaeda conspirator said he was not involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror plot after all and wants a new trial to prove it.

His efforts were immediately rejected by a federal judge.

I guess I'll file this next to "America, I win, you lose!"

He's got almost no hope ov getting a trial. It's very hard to get a guilty plea rescinded after sentencing.

I think he could have rescinded after the jury came back with the finding of no death penalty, before he was actually sentenced, but I'm not sure how the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure actually handle that.

Is he mentally stable?

So much for taking a stand and enduring the consequences. [Razz]
quote:
He also offered measured praise for the U.S. legal system he has spent the past four years attacking. Moussaoui said he lied on the stand because he assumed he would be executed "based on the emotions and anger toward me for the deaths on Sept. 11.'' But he was "extremely surprised" at the jury's verdict, he said, and now believes "it is possible I can receive a fair trial even with Americans as jurors.''
There's so much bombast in there that I don't know when, exactly, he was lying.

I have little doubt that he was lying through most of the trial. And still is.

I think he's trying his darndest to get the U.S. to look evil and oppressive.

From what I can tell, he is not mentally stable. His family apparently has a history of schizophrenia, and many of his actions and statements are consistent with schizophrenia.

I think he's realized that once he begins his sentence he has lost all initiative and all control -- over anything. This strikes me as atempt to hold onto initiative for a little longer.

He has a snowballs chance in hell of getting what he is saying he wants, I seriously doubt any judge is going to give it to him.

I too will file that next to my, America,I win! You lose!"

Hey, if you Americans want to be repressive and evil to this guy, please go ahead. You have my permission.Never mind the terrorist bit, he's plainly a few kilos short of two thick planks.
