First, I need no-cook recipes for durable snacks. For Father's Day, I'm going to have our Sunday School kids put together boxes of snacks for their dads. I'm pretty limited in what we can do, though.

* It can't be terribly messy. Or if it's messy, it has to be easy to clean up.

* It has to be pretty much 100% no cooking. I might be able to borrow a microwave, but that's no sure bet.

* It can't spoil easily. I've no idea how long the snacks might stay in the box before they will be given. Some of the kids Mother's Day gifts didn't get delivered for a week or more, so I can't guess how long it will take for them to get them to their dads.

* It shouldn't have any really expensive ingredients in it.

* It must be able to be put together in 20 minutes or less, or have parts that can be done ahead and finished in less than 20 minutes. (For recipes with the latter, some cooking could be allowable, since I and maybe one or two of the other teachers would be doing the 'doing ahead' part.)

The other project is a thank you gift for the teachers of the school we use for our church services. We'd like to put together something nice for them to say thank you for putting up with our occasional mess (we try really hard to keep things the way we found them, but I'm sure we must fail sometimes). I'd like the kids to make something that would be genuinely useful. Most of the same limitations listed above would apply to this project too. I have some ideas, but would love some Hatrack ideas too.

Thanks!!

No-Bake cookies are some of my favorite. [Big Grin] Give me a second and I will try to dig up a recipie for them.

Also, how about making a snack mix...chex of various flavors, peanuts, raisins, M&M's....

Here are my favorite, but the site has a lot of other ones too. [Big Grin]

You need to heat the mix in a saucepan, but no baking required. [Big Grin]

I vote snack mix as well. Trail mix or homemade Chex mix or something.

I'm trying to think of other no-bake things...but nothing is coming to mind.

Our Mother's Day gift in church this year wasn't flowers for a change - it was paper fans - something like these - you get the idea. Attached was a hand-decorated card saying "We're your biggest fans."

It was kind of cute. Some were plain solid colors and some had designs - mine was a butterfly.

Note - this is for the teacher gift idea.

Uh, trail mix? You know, some nuts, raisins, chocolate chips or M&M's mixed together.

Is that a recipe? In any event, the kids'll love it.

I used to do a recipe with the summer camp kids -- peanut butter balls. You mix creamy peanut butter with either powdered sugar or powdered milk or a mixture of the two until it is play-doh consistency. Then you roll the mixture into balls. You can press chocolate chips into them, too, or mix in raisins or ice cream sprinkles (jimmies). Just make sure that everyone washes their hands really well first, because it is kind of gross with all those dirty hands in the peanut butter.

I don't remember the exact proportions, but I seem to remember that there was more powder than peanut butter -- like maybe 1 cup of peanut butter to 2 or 3 cups of powdered milk or sugar. You can experiment with the right proportions at home.

I love peanut butter balls. When I had them (pre school) we only used powdered milk because comerical peanut butter has enough sugar in it.

Thank you all for the ideas!! I will likely use them in a future lesson plan, because I still want to cook with the kids for our craft sometime in the future.

But for Father's Day I thought I was going to have two weekends to do the project and now it turns out I'm not (I forgot I was going to be out of town this coming weekend, so I'm not even going to be at church...so much for that idea). So the gift has to be do-able in its entirety in about 30 minutes, maybe 40.

I have 'treasure' boxes for them to decorate, so that will take a little time, and I thought we could stuff them with some prepackaged stuff that would be more meaningful than just 'snacks for you, dad'. Here's my list so far:

* Favorite Jokes: A list of favorite jokes so dad can have a laugh when he needs one. I thought I'd print out a bunch of really silly jokes, let the kids pick the ones they like and they can paste them on a peice of paper to make the "list"

* Stuff You Can't Find Because I Used the Last One: A paperclip, safety pin, AA battery, kleenex, etc.

* Protein to Keep Up Your Strength: some beef jerkey

* A Pile of Kisses: some Hershey's kisses. We could have them lipstick kiss the label of the bag too.

* Pictures to Replace the Cash in Your Wallet You Gave Me for My Allowance: I'll print out pictures I have of the kids in my class.

* Snacks To Eat When You Take Me ______ (fishing, etc.) Hint! Hint!: pretzels or chips or something like that.

Other ideas? Thoughts?
