I am trying to tackle a (to my newb brain) complex GUI interface. I know what I have to make, I conceptually grasp that I just have to make panels, rows, and gridflowlayout. I also know that I'm going to mess up somewhere.

But I shall try nonetheless!

Personally, I find Java's GUI stuff rather unhelpful; I usually set the layout manager to null and hardcode the placements. Which works find as long as you can control the size of your application. Don't try this for something meant to be viewed on the Web.

Ouch, KoM, that's rough.

I've found that a good combination of layouts usually gets the job done. You might use a TON of subpanels, but it usually looks nice - and scales.
