Just had my last day of school and have been thinking about some type of work at home deal. Is there really any way to make money working from home? I refuse to get a job becuase I have decided to spend the summer with my kids and keep them out of daycare. So... any suggestions.

A good friend of mine makes very good money tutoring. She has a young child and works out of her home, helping students that are struggling in school get ready for the next school year.

Where do you live? If you are in the right area certain companies do customer service lines for their companies and you can work from your home. I know Jetblue does this in Utah.

I do freelance editing and writing at home. But I don't see how I could do it if I were trying to spend time with kids--I hate working at night.

I know a male teacher (and football coach) who sells avon, and takes his two little kids with him. I'm not sure you'd really have intrest in that, but it has to be thrown out.

My mother reviews college entrance exams. Not sure if that's a summer-type gig though.
There are some legitimate places that pay people to stuff envelopes or enter data. I'm not sure how to find them and sort the crooked scams from the real jobs though.

E-bay "brokers" seem to do an okay business too. People give you a percentage of whatever their item sells for, or pay a flat fee. You post the listings, manage the processing and shipping, and cut them a check when the payment clears.

When I was home for maternity leave and now when I am home for the summer (I am a teacher), I mystery shop. Today I went to the grocery store, spent $30 on groceries I needed anyway, and got paid $12 to tell them how the store was doing. I am doing 3 more this week, plus getting my daughter's hair cut for free and taking a friend out for a very expensive steak dinner next week. It is more work than you would think but it is easy and fun and taking kids with you is no problem.
Go to Volition for more info and tips. DON'T pay anything to become a mystery shopper (those are scams). You can do it all yourself for free.

I watch my friend's sons during the summer.He saves a lot of money on daycare- money I could use- plus his sons are good friends with mine. I only watch from one family- if you do daycare for kids from two or more families, you have to be accredited. I have no qualms about *me* getting accredidation, but my house is another matter. If you're a teacher, than maybe a teacher with a summer job will need childcare?
