1. Did Jesus tell a man to change his coat for a sword somewhere?

2. Would Jesus teach self-defence?

3. If Budha were here today, would she hear me clapping?

For an aspiring Zen monk, you have difficulty spelling the name of the single most revered person in your belief system.

1. Yes, but not just "somewhere" ... at Abe's Pawn and Pay Day Loans.

2. No, he was all about denial of self. Well, except for that whole Son of God thing.

3. She'd wonder what you were doing with your other hand.

1. I have no idea. He did suggest a few times that he did not come to bring peace but a sword, indicating that His work was meant to be controversial, and that His followers should expect to run into conflict with other people over their beliefs.

2. I think that He would approve of people defending themselves and their loved ones, though one of the main purposes of His teachings was to pull people away from cycles of vengeance and violence by teaching them to forgive. I don't think he would have explicitly taught self-defense on His own initiative, because it would be "off-message", so to speak.

3. Buddha? She? Did I miss something in my world religions course? [Smile]

2. It would involve excessive use of crucifix throwing stars and the use of a Jesus stick to block and parry your enemies' blows without actually harming them. You would then subdue them using your love of Jesus to suffocate them to the point of black out.

It's a very disciplined art, Jesus-jitsu.

If you turn your cheek fast enough, your attacker is imbalanced and falls over.

And the 'offer him the other' is kind of a taunt!

Oh, man, that makes SOOOO much more sense now.

Luke 22: 36 "Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."

2: Thats a hard one, there are a few times where people all got angry enough to hurt Jesus and every time he either disappeared from their midst or walked through untouched (no explanation is given for this)

3: Which female Buddha are you referring to?

Lyr: as Jesus was Jewish, are you sure it wouldn't be Jew-Jitsu?

Excellent answers!
I love this thread.
Senoj: Thank you. I'm glad somebody knows their Bible around here.
Bob: lol
Blade: 3 any of the millions of Budas (Mexican Spelling) in all directions.
Tom: lol
Pix: I am quite certain a lot of his philosophies came from the East. Maybe he found a Taoist Hermit somewhere.
Lyr: I bet
Rak: Budists say, if you meet the buda by the side of the road, cut his head off.

Pix! I knew you were my favorite!

Of course it would be Jew-Jitsu.
