I am techically not on a diet, but I am trying to eat better. I am eating more fruit, more vegetables, no ice cream, hardly any candy and nothing with transfat in it like Chips Ahoy or Oreos.
The thing is, do I completely have to give up sweets? I can't help if sometimes i want a nice sweet salty Reeces Peanut Butter Cup or these Dark chocolate school boy biscuits with no whipped cream ( [Cry] ) and hot chocolate. Sometiems I even want to make hamburgers from scratch or lasagna or all the things that are rather fattening and unhealthy but taste so darn good. Fruit is wonderful, but sometimes you get an odd sour pieces where as chocolate tastes good all the time! Especially dark chocolate.
It doesn't help that I keep watching Dr. Phil with folks that weigh 1000 pounds wondering how the heck can they lose all that weight and am I as bad as they are because of wanting shrimp fried rice even though I am planning on smuggling dried apricots into a movie theatre which has got to be healthier than transfat drenched overpriced popcorn.

You will lose weight if you only take in a certain amount of calories. You can eat sweets, just not very many because they have alot of calories.

Strange how one cup of this yogurt has more calories than these biscuits, but the yogurt has less fat.
I don't get that.

Fry yogurt and their fat content might be more comparable. Fried yogurt....MMMMMMMMMMM.

Unless it's plain yogurt or has a sugar substitute, it may have quite a bit of sugar... hence the calories.

Ew
That sounds rather revolting
Fried yogurt.
Gross...

Now fried scrimp and fried chicken on the other hand, which I cannot have...

You don't have to give up the nice things in life ( [Wink] ) to eat healthily. Make sure you're eating vegetables/fruits and not a crazy amount of dessert-type things. You can have lasagna, just don't have it every day. Exercise.

Homemade Hamburgers, other than being fried can be be just as healthy as any other meat if you buy lean mince. And the rest is just bread and veggies!

Take it from me: trying to lose weight by just telling yourself you can't eat anything unhealthy ever again is bound to fail. You just can't live like that, feeling like you're constantly missing out on the things you enjoy. Chances are good you'll give up within a week and then hate yourself for being so weak. [Smile]

Instead, if you really want to be serious about losing weight, you need to find a way to eat healthy AND still eat the things you love. It's all about moderation (of course), and there's a lot of help out there for learning how to make good food choices.

My husband and I have been using the program at SparkPeople for the last couple of months. I'm down 20 pounds, and he's down 25 (he's a rockstar!). And you can still eat doritoes and chocolate and all that stuff... you just need to have it in reasonable quantities, and make sure that what you eat during the rest of the day takes it into account.

It's a much more reasonable program than just saying you'll never have ice cream again, and much easier to stick to long enough to see results. [Smile]

Good luck!

I agree with Zeugma. I tried your diet and ended up gaining weight.

My strategy is to pick one sweet I really love - dark chocolate, or maybe some vanilla ice cream - and then buy it in small quantities to keep around the house. If you don't buy the junk food you can't have it to eat!

Junk food is also expensive, especially the overpackaged kind; I know you said you were looking for a job. One strategy I use is to calculate just how much all that junk food costs every month, and realize what other fun things I can spend the money on....voila, the desire for junk food disappears in favor of new shoes [Smile]

I have read that if you increase the amount of raw coconut oil in your diet, the craving for sweets drops. This has been my experience as well, in general. Drinking lots of water may help too, first thing in the morning.

There are 8-10 books about the weight-loss potential of coconut and coconut oil.

I lost 30 pounds by accident while eating 1-2 large coconuts a day.

You can find dozens of articles about it by Googling.

Coconut oil and coconut have healed my teeth. I used to have a spot on my front tooth where the enamel broke when the bracket for my braces was removed. It is going away now, 16 years later, after eating lots of coconut oil over the last 3 months.

I eat 5-7 tablespoons of coconut oil daily, and have lost about 8 pounds from it in the last 2 months, with no other lifestyle or diet changes.

Syn, you don't have to deny yourself any class of foods, you just have to adjust your quantities. It is an adjustment period, but soon you come to get as much or more pleasure from sucking on one square (2 gms carb, 1/12 bar) of a Hershey's Special Dark candy bar as once you did from eating the whole thing. You let it slowly melt inside your mouth from the frozen state (I keep them in the freezer) and drench your tongue in delicious dark chocolate flavor for 10 minutes or so. It's dreamy. [Smile]

The same thing is true of cheesecake or ice cream or anything. You get one bite a day of absolutely anything fattening and delicious that you want.
