Variety reports that Disney will no longer release an average of 18 films a year. From now on it'll be about 8 films per year. This includes films Disney puts out under its Touchstone Pictures label and its Hollywood Pictures alias.

Massive lay-offs and budget cuts are expected to be announced soon.

While I feel sorry for those losing their jobs, I do feel cheered that the possiblity of a Shaggy Dog 2 just became a bit more unlikely.

Theatrical releases, or does this include direct-to-video/DVD releases?

(You may not yet be safe from SD2...)

What about their Miyazaki imports? Are those included?

The article seemed to indicate a tightening of the belt all over.

The Studio Ghibli stuff is only distributed by Disney, not made by them, so it won't be affected. I think. [Smile]
