I dunno, there was probably a post about this somewhere down the line. I'm just curious to know if there's anyone on these boards that likes Family Guy as much as I do. If there are such folk prowling the digital forests these days, please post your favorite joke or reference.

I enjoyed it when Stewie got abducted by the music video for Ah-ha's "Take on Me".
I've seen very little of Family Guy, but I've always found it funny when I've watched what little I've seen.

I was listening to the commentary, and they admitted that part of their success was championing the "tosat" style of comedy.
TOSAT stands for Taking Our Sweet A$$ Time.

They're definitely very good at tosat. I also find that they do drunkedness very very well. But the thing I'm most impressed with is their attention to detail with regards to everyday speech. Like when Peter stutters or mumbles there's all the little quirks in there that there would be if someone were to actually say it.

I discovered the show recently. My family asked what planet I was from when I mentioned that the show took place in RI- they'd known it and ignored the show for years.
It's almost too vulgar for me, but not quite. I enjoy the massive amounts of references.

I loved when I found out that my 70-year-old theatre history professor told us he watched it with his 12-year-old son.
He said the best part was that half the time he had to explain references to his son, and the other half his son had to explain them to him.

I personally prefer Futurama and King of the Hill for my cartoons. My roommate is a huge Family Guy fan though so I've seen quite a bit of it. The more recent stuff is getting so random that its no longer funny.
70 and 12? That's one old dad.

I haven't seen a whole lot of it, but what I have seen is mostly brilliant. Tosat, indeed. It helps, I think, that I grew up and until a year ago lived in Providence.

I like the show. Sometimes the references are so far off-topic that I don't find them funny. But other times they're even farther off topic and it makes it funnier.

Right now, it's the best comedic cartoon series I can think of. Especially the movie is bloody brilliant. The sheer rate of gags is so high... I noticed I was still laughing at some joke while several others flew by with me hardly noticing. Fortunately it's one of those movies you can watch over and over and over...

I am referring to the South Park episode about Family Guy.
I am a referrential humorist myself. I can parry about with the best of them, so Family Guy has always been up my alley (though I cannot watch more than one episode at a sitting, as the constant flood of humor just leaves me numb and I find myself no longer laughed and just sort of mezmorized in front of the TV).
However, that SP episode laid out the setup for just about every gag in the series. So, even if the gag is funny, realizing its coming just ruins it. There are other gags that are random (such as the Kool-Aide man busting through a wall) and funny, but most of the time, I'm just not amused.
I don't really like South Park, if that helps. It can be funny, but the fans always seem to be a bunch of mouth-breathing chimpanzees.

Really Primal? That episode of South Park turned me off to South Park itself. I'm even jewish, and no other episode ever phased me, but when I saw the Family Guy episode of South Park, that just sorta pissed me off. I still watch it sometimes, but forever will they have that smudge on their record.

See, that episode of South Park just emphasized what I had been thinking ever since Family Guy came back on the air. The non-sequitors became more frequent and more random, focus on storytelling dropped off, and the show just wasn't funny anymore. Now when I watch it, I'm just bored.

I like Family Guy, they crack me up with those references like the Facts of Life thing- "You have BOTH?" "Yeah, doesn't everyone?" "Nooooooo!" But I like South Park even more and found that anti-Family Guy episode to be rather amusin. I like then random non-sequitors though.

Family Guy is pretty funny (as is American Dad) - it's better than South Park and almost as good as Futurama.

I got really sad when Family Guy made a reference to Press Your Luck, and none of my friends got it.

Does no one else think it's sad that a show (SP) had to resort to such tactics because another show (FG) was stealing its thunder? That's just petty. Also, is a show only funny when you don't know the humor structure? I can tell, pretty well, when stand-up comedians are gonna throw out punchlines but that doesn't make them bad. Lastly, is it not possible for people to like more than one show? I like SP and FG. There, that didn't hurt so much.

I think Family Guy is a bit more on the random humor and less focused on the inteligent humor nowadays compared to classic Simpsons (which coincidentally I thinks suffers from the same problem now)
Its a bit too dirty for me (Family Guy) and though I have laughed at the little bits I have seen overall I am not a fan.
I used to love South Park when I was in High School (I even ran a website about it, www.killkenny.com) Moved to a country that did not have it for 2 years and since coming back I can't stand it. My friend insisted that its better than ever and we watched one episode (The Paris Hilton Episode) the satire for me was completely lost in all the grossness of the episode, it made me want to throw up.
It annoys me that Matt Stone and Trey Parker justify their really gross bits by saying that they are trying to make a moral statement that others refuse to say.
South Park = Terrible
Family Guy = Moderately Bad-Kinda Funny
Seasons 7-12 Simpsons = Laughing My Head Off

You're god damn right you should've! Makes it 10 times better.
I think the first 3 seasons of Family Guy were absolutely fantastic. The funniest cartoon I had ever seen. Season 4 definitely took a downslide in my mind, but still managed to be the funniest thing on television. I thought the Stewie Griffin movie was a return to superb quality Family Guy, and I think Season 5 was top notch also.
The intro terrorist video scene and subsequent naked gun beginning is probably my favorite Family Guy scene ever, beating out contenders like Stewie's flashback to the womb, stewie doing Rocketman, the original chicken chase scene, the Godfather conversation, and countless others!
Some great scenes/quotes of the top of my head:
Stewie: Play that sad walking around sound from the Hulk.
Man in white: What do you want? Stewie: Freedom! What do you want? Man in white: I want to get the hell out of here! Stewie: Oh I'm sorry, we're fresh out of that. All we have is untimely death! Man in white: What the hell is this? Stewie: IT'S A BOY!
Jesus doing the magic trick with his fingers while humming that tune.
Cop to louis and peter(after catching them running away at a house party): Aren't you a little old to be drinking underage? Peter to Louis: Hey Louis, look over there! Peter to cops: Run! (Cops run away)
