I need to find a good doctor for my husband. He's getting sick of being sick all the time--not surprisingly.

Our general doctor is a nice guy, but he's actually said that he doesn't like to treat more than one problem at a time. Considering getting to the doctor is difficult and an added expense, we aren't thrilled about having to make half-a-dozen appointments or more. We're also concerned that some of these problems could have the same cause--and how can the doctor figure that out if he won't listen to ALL of the symptoms?

Right now, his problems are very varied, in fact, it's hard for me to remember everything. Headaches, chest pains, scratches (or some sort of open sores that looks like scratches) that haven't healed on his legs for about a year (and sometimes itch), intestinal problems, painful cysts, etc. etc. Some of those things are interrelated, some of them aren't. I know that the way I describe it doesn't sound too dire, but that's just because I categorize things together... the problems in each category are bad enough.

What kind of doctor will be willing to sit down and take TIME with him (us) to get him on the path to health? I feel like he keeps on getting short-term solutions that may or may not work--but nothing actually HEALS him. He feels like there's something seriously wrong and that he might die--and it's hard not to be able to DO anything, because the doctors we go to aren't helping!

Are there any doctors left who are willing to schedule more than 15 minutes per patient, and will take a deeper look into the problems, rather than simply prescribing antibiotics and/or pain pills and moving on? Is there a way I should phrase what we need to the receptionist so that the doctor is prepared to spend more time? They can double my copay if they have to!

... Thanks in advance.

I would say a good internal medicine doc would be a good bet. Yes, there are some that will schedule more than a few minutes, but tell the person who answers the phone in advance that he has multiple symptoms and the appt. may take longer than usual.

You may need to see a GI specialist about the intestinal problems.
