The debate in the Anime thread about various American Voice Actors doing Japanese anime voices reminded me of a trip I made to Germany. In Germany what we watched on TV was all in German, even the American Reruns.

Some things translated over poorly--Gilligan's Island, The Beatle's "Yellow Submarine" etc.

But "The A-Team" in German rocked.

And I didn't speak German.

Later in Italy we again caught the A-Team, but it was not nearly as good. BA Barachus is not an Alto.

So, are there any other movies or shows you think would be better if you watched them in a different language? Especially if its a language you don't understand.

I watched a few movies in Japanese when I was there. I liked the Bourne Identity pretty well. Matt Damon's voice isn't really gritty enough for a superspy, and the voice was a lot deeper.

I also saw Equilibrium. It was.. enlightening. Interesting, to say the least. Better? I don't know.

Edit: Can't forget Full House. It was better. Definitely better. But that was because I didn't understand much.

While in Sao Paulo, I once saw Field of Dreams dubbed in Spanish with Portuguese subtitles. If I didn't know the movie so well to begin with, it would have been confusing as hell.

I prefered Finding Nemo in German to English. I thought the voice acters were better, and some of the phrasing was funnier.
